Wincest and RPF writers are disgusting! R&R my fics plz?
Thank you very much to the mice on wank_report for the links.

Ficwriter1966 doesn’t like Wincest or slash or RPS. Her first post on the subject doesn’t attract a lot of attention from fandom at large. So she made a second one. That segues into a plea for more feedback on her fics. After she insults her audience.

Quotes:

I have no interest in slash...I don't see the "subtext" people claim is flapping its wings all over the place. Beyond that, I'm not interested in gay porn. It does nothing for me. (I won't get into how pissed off I get at being accused of homophobia because I don't get turned on by gay porn. I'm a straight woman. What I want to see is a man and a woman together. That's what works for me. That does NOT make me homophobic.)

Anyway...imagine how utterly thrilled I was to find out that this fandom is rife with people who not only indulge in the slash, they indulge in portrayals of incest.

I also think it's seriously inappropriate to write "fiction" involving the sexual escapades of real people -- using their real names. Yes, I wrote RPF once -- when I was 12 years old, and I thought Davy Jones would be the awesomest boyfriend in the awesome world of awesome. [Apparently the actors and writers are aware of fic and have no problem with it? ETA: Not exactly.]

I do not want to (and will not) discuss the relative merits of slash, or Wincest, or freedom of expression. (In fact, yes, if you bring it up, I will delete your comment.) [Which she does, before disabling comments altogether.]

Therefore, the fact that the dark side of this fandom has become so vocal, so in-your-face, and so "I can do what I want, and if you don't like it, I don't give a shit" to the point that all fanfiction is painted with the same unfriendly brush, that my work is thrown into the same basket with things that years ago were underground and I believe SHOULD HAVE STAYED THERE, infuriates me. [What was that about not being homophobic again ?]

But the fic will be back, before too long. When you read it (here or anywhere else), remember something: we, the writers, know you're there. We might not be able to see you, out there in the dark, but we know you're there. And when you read, and say nothing, it's as if you've attended a play or a concert...and at the end, you didn't applaud. You got up and left without making a sound.

A selection of responses.

This post sums it up best:

YOU ARE DESTROYING ALL OF FANDOM BY WRITING PAIRINGS I DON'T LIKE AND I MUST SAVE FANDOM FOR US ALL BY DRIVING YOU OUT posts are a dime a dozen, but I've never seen anyone so neatly turn that claim into blatant feedback whoring. I'm impressed!

I think there was a previous wank where people jokingly said "Wincest is what happens when good people do nothing"? Well, it's not a laughing matter anymore, Supernatural fandom! From this post:

this was a quote from ficwriter1966 before the replies were all axed:

'Oh, I don't have any delusions about rebuilding the fandom, or even a tiny part of it. What I wanted to do was be brave enough to stand up and SAY "I think what you're doing is wrong, and this is why." In keeping with that old saying - all evil needs is for good people to do nothing. I suspect there are a lot of people who are uncomfortable with the status quo but are afraid to say so for fear of being ridiculed or demeaned.'

Incestuous Love Child of ETA: Have a macro, courtesty of [info]arionhunter!

When an ETA and an ETA love each other very much: Posts from the 14th and 15th provide some context. And lulz.

Now in handy-dandy image form!

I feel pretty good right now - I spoke my piece, and said what was in my heart. People won't like it, but since I've never been a part of the "popular" group, things won't be all that different.

Slash and Wincest: Written by the mean girls in high school. You just thought they practiced at cheerleading camp.

Speaking as a straight person with convictions, I've learned it's best to keep one's mouth shut. If I can't even convince people to use blockquotes, I'm not going to try and tell them to stop slashing.

/Is this icon ironic or apposite? I can't tell.

I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die because he was having incestuous relations.
