PS3 Fanboys: Generating more splooge than the clients of GTA IV's prostitutes
Grand Theft Auto IV has been released simultaneously on both the PS3 and Xbox 360, and is now available for all your virtual car-jacking needs. With this launch comes an opinion piece on Game|Life titled "Can GTA 4 Save PS3? How About Take-Two?" which speculates what impact this game will have on the PS3 (which is currently in third place behind the 360 and the Wii) and GTA IV publisher Take-Two Interactive (which is currently fighting off a hostile takeover bid by video game giant Electronic Arts).

The commenters ignore the latter for the most part, but they sure as hell latch onto the "saving the PS3" angle. The thread starts off with a bang:

- Since when did the PS3 need saving? If anything you need to save to buy the thing.
GTA 4 will sell more on the 360 because of the install base, everyone knows that, the question is, which console will sell the most ALONG WITH GTA 4?
Because the PS3 has better games coming out in the NEAR future it should do very well this week and the following months.

Of course, we get the whole tech angle, plus a mention of last week's leak:

- Crappy article full of misleading information. Grand Theft Auto IV only was delayed once not numerous times like you said. And the PLAYSTATION 3 doesn't need to be save is doing great with and without GTA IV just look at it. The game will sell more on PS3 since it will have better texture no loading and way less pop up and it will run at 1080p HD resolution. The Xbox 360 was leaked so most Xbox 360 owners with a hack console will not pay they will just steal it. PS3 owners will all have legit copies making more money to Sony PLAYSTATION 3 and Rockstar Games.Most Xbox 360 will get Red Light of Death after playing this game for about 6 hours nonstop. If people wanna play it for days get the PS3 version is better i beat the Xbox 360 version a lot of bugs and too much loading time not worth buying for that console.

PS3 has been outselling the 360 worldwide for months and is now neck-and-neck in the US.
360 is the one that needs saving now that it is totally not worth the value. PS3 has much more value - bang/buck - now that blu-ray won and is getting the superior version of GTA4, great exclusives this year, and all the multiplayforms = victory, not saved.

- Since when did the PS3 need saving. I like how the ignorant "journalist" in this article mentions NORTH AMERICAN numbers. Like that even matters anymore. The PS3 is kicking ass in Europe right now. And they have more than enough sales to catch up to Microsoft.

As usual, the PS3 hater contingent comes out of the woodwork:
