“Melissa has done more to hurt me than Rowling”
SVA lashes out at TLC's Melissa in the New Yorker; Melissa alleges that the author, Tim Wu, actually put words in her mouth.

ETA 2: From insanitys_place: Tim Wu responds, does not address actual allegations of misquoting. (FW thread) Also, someone emailed me to point out that Wu is a professor at Columbia, not specifically associated with the Stanford Fair use Project.

ETA 3: Wu was sitting with SVA at the trial? Earlier comments from Melissa, by the way, seem to indicate that Wu got the "houses" information from an old podcast, where he also got the "vilified" part--except that it was spoken by Sue (a TLC staffer?). And as another Leaky Lounge poster points out, "ruined his good standing" is actually "the plaintiffs' lawyer reading out the dreaded email from Steve to Melissa," not something that Melissa said. So really, "I mention and quote language to the effect that..." is kind of not on, journalistically speaking.

Also, both 1) someone on Leaky Lounge and 2) Elanor (who emailed me) say that Tim Wu was not, in fact, sitting with SVA in court. I'm just reporting what both sides are saying here.

ETA 5: From rattlesnakeroot on LJ: Sue talks about the podcast quotes of hers attributed incorrectly to Melissa, and "An alternate view... is a comment written on Kristin Devoe's Blog The Daily Prophet in reference to the New Yorker story. Karen Brown author of the book Prejudice in Harry Potter's World wrote her own opinion of the Leaky Lounge, deleted posts, sympathy for Steve Vander Ark, and the so-called impartiality of fandom. I think she speaks for many of us who are still Harry Potter fans, and who are not personally involved, but still have a right to our alternative opinions." I'm not sure which posts have been edited, however.
