Sims wank
Background: in the Sims fandom, there are people who post stories about the characters they play, usually called 'legacies'. simsecret is a secret comm for the Sims games.

One day, a secret pops up. It is talking about a picture in a legacy by a well-liked fandom member, shoefleesims. People don't agree. shoefleesims shows up in person to disagree:

8. She's a vampire. Things happen at night. The Libellus Legacy pictures are darker than the Flora Legacy ones FOR A REASON. If you don't like it... don't read it? So easy. :D

And you know what I totally just realised? The image in your secret is darker than my original one. If you look at both of them you can so see it. Did you darken it for the purpose of your secret? Naughty naughty!

THE PLOT THICKENS!

The secret's OP replies with a side-by-side comparison of the pictures, but the kerfluffle stays small.

Fast forward to... one week later, the next secret post.

This secret is posted, and once again people disagree. And, once again, shoefleesims replies. And the first secret's OP comes back with a teal deer that mates with shoefleesims's own. Remember, this is all over how dark a screencap is.


shoefleesims: 17. My problem with that secret was that she darkened the image to make her secret. In my opinion, that's rude and sort of defeats the purpose of the secret. That said, the pictures look fine on my monitor. I can't tell what it looks like on anyone else's monitor, because I am sadly not all seeing. You can't please everyone, I suppose?

anonymous: Alright. I'm tired of hearing about that secret. And as far as you're concerned - it wasn't just YOU. So stop that. Or keep whining, whatever. But I meant it for a lot of people who just take snapshots and don't bother lightening them up just a little?! C'mon. I know a lot of you have photoshop or other programs where it's possible. You know how to use them. DO IT.

Darkening the picture. I did not. I don't know where this is coming from, the most I did was put borders around it or something. I don't even remember - in fact, even if I did darken it - it wasn't on purpose because I would remember doing something snarky like that. I didn't have to darken it. It was already hard to see. I only used your picture because I knew that legacy was one where I could find a good example of what I was talking about!

I even went as far as putting the pictures side by side and they looked the same!! I don't know why you all keep saying "Oh they darkened the picture to be extra bitchy" That's not true and I'm beginning to think you're all just saying that because this is something that really hurt you and it's your only defense besides "It's supposed to be dark."

I like both of your legacies. Bluebell & Lilith are awesome creations on your part. It was just one little nitpick - you shouldn't be THAT offended by it.

shoefleesims: There's really no need to get so upset and offended. I know some of my images are dark. It's a vampire legacy, so I purposely don't brighten the images as much as do for the Flora's. I do brighten them from how they are in the original game, though, they each have a screen layer of 30%. I have no idea why they might look so dark on your monitor (except for different settings?) but they look perfectly fine on mine and many others.

All I'll say about your secret and my image is they don't look the same side to side. I wasn't the only one who noticed it, but perhaps it is, yet again, a monitor issue. I don't want to keep up a ridiculous argument over this.

I'm glad you like my legacies. I will try to brighten up the images just a bit more, but I'm not going to go to extremes. The game itself is dark, after all, and it is almost entirely at night. And also, I really wasn't that offended by the secret to begin with. To be honest, when I first saw it, I just laughed. I was more bothered by the fact that it looked so much darker than the original. But, if you say you didn't darken it, then I believe you. Alright?


Next secret post, the saga continues. Same reaction from the public, but shoefleesims is a little saner. Anonymous OP shows up, too.

Finally, this week, we have 'Can't we all just get along' secret.
