Entry tags:actors, fandom: supernatural, fandom_wank's thoughts on yaoi, in ur wank - swapping our foodz, interrogating from the wrong perspective, misogyny soup, please mommy make it stop, recipes in comments, sexism, still not funny, stop sharing your thoughts, too many fucking tags, unfunny business, wanking inside the house, we love jf tags, what is wrong with you people?, what the shit is this?

Women Who Hate Dean Hating Women Hating... wait.
Let's see if I can do this properly.

Hiatus in the Supernatural fandom officially started last Friday, and already fans are getting a little stir-crazy.
There have been small-time rumblings from various corners of LJ this season over gender issues and many of these rumblings have involved Dean Winchester, one of the two stars of Supernatural.

There are spoilers about the finale of course.

Let's start things out with a calm-ish post by [info]esorlehcarwherein we learn that she was very upset by the finale:
http://esorlehcar.livejournal.com/581689.html

And a follow-up with links to Why Using Sexist Language is Bad And Like Racism Only Not
http://esorlehcar.livejournal.com/581952.html

But she's not the only one who was upset. lj-user sevenfists was BORED with Dean's death:
http://sevenfists.livejournal.com/182497.html#cutid1

The misogyny is so bad, people might not watch next season they're so upset!
http://butterfly.livejournal.com/1206981.html#cutid2
http://deadbeat-nymph.livejournal.com/15619.html

But fear not SPN fandom, for we have numbers to back up this dramatic turn of events. trollprincess brings in the statistics with Bitchwatch:
http://trollprincess.livejournal.com/1617144.html
http://trollprincess.livejournal.com/1617299.html
http://trollprincess.livejournal.com/1618164.html

All of the above have been fairly calm, all things considered, but the real wank starts pouring in when sazzlette posts a rebuttal called Dean Winchester is a sexist asshole
http://sazzlette.livejournal.com/394683.html
She starts it out with:
Dear all of you whiny, self important females.

Please, for the love of God, shut the fuck up about Dean and his misogyny. I have to say that, to a point, I agree with you. It annoys me that Sam has taken after his brother and started behaving like a jerk. This has never been a part of Sam's character the way it has Dean's, and I think they're taking this whole Sam-becoming-like-Dean thing too far. Sam and Dean generally annoy me this season, in fact, but that's an entirely different kettle of fish.

Uh oh.

esorlehcar, naturally, makes a response:
http://esorlehcar.livejournal.com/582298.html
I always wonder if anyone actually thinks the "shut the fuck up and get out of my fandom if you don't agree with me" posts will actually work.

They don't?
The gauntlet has been thrown down, and now the wank is spreading throughout LJ-land, with many SPN fans posting either "I agree and Dean sucks!"; "I agree and Kripke sucks!"; "I disagree and you suck!' and "I am upset over fandom and wank sucks!"

There's a lesson to be learned here Sam fellow FW'ers: it really is going to be a long summer for SPN fans.

eta: and for added FAIL, the poster of this wank has not figured out auto-formatting. Would anyone be kind enough to link me to the FAQ that deals with LJ-tags? When I try to use the search function I keep running into a page about harassment. Maybe it is a sign?

(Which makes me think that posting unfunny wank would be a great strategy for collecting new recipes... )

Apple Squares

INGREDIENTS

* 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon baking powder
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
* 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
* 1/2 cup white sugar
* 1 egg
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1/2 cup chopped apple
* 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
* 2 tablespoons white sugar
* 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x9 inch pan. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon; set aside.
2. In a large bowl, mix together melted butter, brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of white sugar with a wooden spoon until smooth. Stir in the egg and vanilla. Blend in the flour mixture until just combined, then stir in the apples and walnuts. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared pan. In a cup or small bowl, stir together the remaining cinnamon and sugar; sprinkle over the top of the bars.
3. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in preheated oven; finished bars should spring back when lightly touched. Cool in the pan, and cut into squares.

When I made it, I had no brown sugar, so I replaced it with sugar made from sesame... It was delicious.

From The Sweet Potato Queens Big-Ass Cookbook and Financial Planner, my favorite dessert recipe:
Drop-Dead-Easy Pots de Creme

3/4 cup cream
1 egg
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips (I'm partial to Ghirardelli, but Toll House works in a pinch)
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon brandy or bourbon

Heat the cream just to the boiling point. Put the egg, chocolate, salt and sugar in a blender or cuisinart and blend for roughly 20 seconds. While it's still running, pour in hot cream gradually. Shut it off and scrape the sides off, then add the booze and let the machine run for a few more seconds to mix it. Pour into demitasse cups and serve.

I personally added a bit more cream and, not having enough cups, I used silicon cupcake cups. The only difference was that it was creamier with less brandy taste and I had to fight to get my portion at Thanksgiving dinner.

Oh, that reminds me - does anyone have some good wheat-free recipes for bread? My friend has a wheat allergy that's apparently causing or exacerbating her endometriosis.

I do not, but I highly suggest that you tell her to start buying rice pasta. My mom just picked up a bag of Tinkyada brand and it was absolutely delicious.

Rice pasta! Oh, that's a lovely idea, I had never heard of it. Am I more likely to find it at Organic-type stores, or someplace else?

Thank you!

If your grocery store has a health food or organic area there's a good chance they will have it, I think. Or maybe my area is lucky because we're a bunch of rich yuppies.

Specifically wheat, or all gluten? Because if it's just wheat, you can do stuff with oats and rye and barley.

Do you have or have access to a bread machine? It will make your whole life easier for gluten-free breadmaking, which is kind of heinous in and of itself. Here's a decent recipe for banana bread, though:

1/3 cup canola oil
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
2 large eggs (bring these up to rm temp by putting them in a bowl of hot water or leaving them out until warm)
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 cup all-purpose gluten-free flour (I use Bob's red mill, which is found in 1 lb baggies in the organic section or baking section of most groceries)
2 tsp baking powder
1 1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp xanthum gum (this will also be found near the gluten-free baking supplies)
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cup mashed banana
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1/2 cup raisins

Preheat oven to 350F and grease a 9x5" baking pan. Cream oil, sugar, eggs, and vanilla in a large bowl, add GF flour, xanthum gum, salt, baking powder, and cinnamon. Gradually add in bananas and beat until smooth. Stir in nuts and raisins, transfer to pan and bake 1 hour.

Bob's Red Mill is the most widely-available line of alternative flours, and they make a lot of mixes, etc that're easy to make (ie, you don't have to have an entire line of alternative flours to make shit. Most wheat-free recipes require about 3-4 different types of flour ALL OF WHICH ARE EXPENSIVE! D:) Their website has a lot of recipes as well.

That got long. I'm sorry.

Nope! Your not nuts, though...you may actually be allergic to them from the sounds of it. Which sucks. :( People don't realize you actually can have weird food allergies or a stomach that can't handle the acid or sugar content of certain foods.
