The aftermath of "Breaking Dawn"
We are falling behind on the Sparkledammerung, you guys. Previously: Twilight had its own Carpet Book. Fresh off the truck:

>> Don't Burn It, Return It!

Just got back from Borders, where they took back my book with no problem. Got into a discussion with the cashier about how I was the 15th (!!!) person to bring my book back today. Seems like many customers felt that SM was not true to her characters and her self created Twilight world, and are calling foul.
(See also: Half.com's BD listing; more anecdata at iworkatborders and ONTD).

>> Two new communities are up, mmmcradle (specifically protesting Jacob/Nessie) and whysofailsmeyer, and those are just the ones I know of.

>> Epic ONTD post is epic, complete with macros and Dark Knight rewrites (ALFREDS EYES WERE A BUTTERY, BURNING GOLD; HIS PERFECT FACE ALMOST SEVERE WITH THE DEPTH OF HIS EMOTION AS HE STARED INTO MY EYES AND SHOUTED "NEVAH").

I hear the Twilight Moms board is supposed to open back up today (apparently Stephenie Meyer asked her fan boards to go on hiatus prior to the book release...?), so that should be interesting. ETA: The Twilight Moms loved it! Bless. ETA 2: ... And so it begins. ETA 3: And continues! ETA 4: NO DISSENT!

ETA 5: It was a social experiment test, Twihards, and you failed it! Also: Godwin's. Also-also: She couldn't have been referencing Lolita... could she?

ETA 6: OH SHI--

ETA 7: Alleged MySpace defriending by the author!

ETA 8: A new letter-writing campaign: EDIT MOAR; a J/B shipper decides to rewrite the book.

By the way, you guys, if something else happens, feel free to post a new entry. I'll be over here battening down the LJ hatches.

ETA 9: Seriously, people, there is some fantastic wank linked in the comments now. SOMEONE ELSE TAKE A TURN ON THE CAROUSEL.

Twilight Lexicon says the your fanbase isn't mature enough for a baby!

Got this information from an mmmcradle post (ILU GUYS!) but over on the Twilight Lexicon forums, ajm490 thinks SMeyer was putting Twilight fandom to the test. And they failed.

I think the general aversion to the aspect of a baby in BD is the deep-set immaturity of the fanbase.

14/15 year old girls don't want to have a baby. They don't even want to think about babies. They don't comprehend the intense motherly love inherent to the discussion. It doesn't resonate for them.

I feel like Meyer put you guys to the test. And you failed.

Hereandthere agrees.

Oh wow. You hit the nail on the head. Most teenage girls don't want to have babies. In fact, most women in general nowadays do not want to have children so seeing the big turnoff of a teenage girl who once is pregnant want more than anything for the child to happy and healthy, even if it means that she isn't. So I think it is a difficult concept for many people to wrap their minds around it especially teenage girls who would never want to have a child. Of course everyone says once you find the man of your dreams and you are married, it all changes. Bella had never thought about having a child before until it happened and then it became what she wanted more than anything.

Well said ajm490. Well said.

The so-called "logical thinkers" and the "FemNazis" in the fandom are making poster Devon061381 sick.

The "others" who I see having a serious problem with the whole baby thing, besides the "logical thinkers" (what is the point of reading fantasy if you're going to nitpick everything to fit your analytical mind?), are what I love to call "FemNazis" - I read many of their disgustingly overzealous, one-starred reviews on Amazon and it made me want to hurl. The common whining circled around the fact that SM is horrible for making an 18 year old get married right out of high school, getting pregnant right away, not being a good example for girls, someone always around to take care of you and your child but that's not how the real world works, and endless stores of money like the Cullens have, yada yada yada. If they're so zealous about "choice" and girls not getting married/pregnant right away, they're really not preaching "choice" - as in, everyone has their freaking choice, even if that means they want to start a family young or be a stay-at-home mom. They see people who think that that way is okay as freaks, so they are not as open-minded as they claim. Everyone should be career-oriented and not strapped down with hubby and baby, in their minds. So basically we come back to square one that every girl should be doing the same thing...and oh wait...isn't that what they fought against in the first place? *smirk*

Crusader for Literature politely disagrees with the OP.

No. As someone who genuinely hopes and looks forward to hopefully being a mother someday, I definitely don't think my 'deep-set immaturity' about motherhood is the reason I object to half-vampire babies. Heck, I'm a girl with five youndger siblings, so I think I have some degree of understanding of motherly love, both my mother's and, in a different way, my oown love towards my younger siblings. Goodness knows I remember most of them when they were infants, and I've certainly taken care of them.

But vampire babies open the door even wider for Ms. Meyer's tendency towards Mary Sues. The fact that she give-or-take violated the rules of the universe she created and absolutely failed with her awful attempt to explain it and everything else with biology is why I really think the ecision was a bad one.

So...only people who want children someday aren't grossed out by cesarean by vampire? And if you are, then Smeyer is going to take away your Twihard status?

Well, damn, it's probably a good thing I'm not a Twihard then, because I'd love to have a baby but cesarean by vampire is maybe one of the most revolting things I've ever heard about.

I missed this one. In response ajm490's "failed the test comment," Cheeky gets a little ... cheeky. ;)

Well then I guess only the TwilightMoms are worthy enough for Meyer then.

"Why are you all THINKING?! God."

as in, everyone has their freaking choice, even if that means they want to start a family young or be a stay-at-home mom.

I wonder if it occurs to him that by choosing what she thought was a sterile vampire, Bella was basically, "I'd rather have you than babies." She didn't CHOOSE to start a family. She CHOSE to give one up for a lifetime with Edward and got magically knocked up anyway. And did she even have much of a choice about even getting an abortion considering Edward had to rip through the placenta with his freaking TEETH to get the baby out? What was Carlisle going to do, exactly? Open her stomach ASAP and OM NOM NOM?

... ahem.

I'll buy it. Bella is so broadcasting her subconscious wish to get away from traditional family values that MAKES HER COOK FOR HER MEN ALL THE TIME by falling in lust with a bunch of vampires who can fend for themselves in the feeding department.

So, according to Devon Von Random Number, disliking Meyer's decision to shoehorn random plot contrivance sparklyvamp babies in where they don't really fit means I really want to raise an all-female army and invade Poland?

Right then.
