MythBusters Fans Wanky? MYTH CONFIRMED!
The Discovery Channel has been hyping up its forthcoming "ALL NEW" MythBusters episodes for quite some time, and the first [ETA: Whoops! My bad.] second new one was supposed to air last night. But ONOZ! Instead of the long-awaited "Viral Video" ep, those who tuned in got...a rebroadcast of the already rerun-to-death "Pirate Special." Sadface.

It turns out that about an hour and a half before the episode was to air, the mod on the MB fansite forum announced a delay in the next two scheduled new episodes; those ("Viral Video" and "Ninjas 2") will be postponed indefinitely and there will not be a new episode until Aug. 27. Comments start out pretty tame, with fans ass-kissing the mod and blaming the Olympics, but quickly escalate to ever-wankier heights.

In 34 (so far) wanktastic pages, we have conspiracy theories, entitlement wank, fans being told to GTFO if they're not angry enough.

ZOMG loyal fans are being deprived of their livelihoods! Won't someone think of the fans??
ZOMG God-modding!
ZOMG leave Adam and Jamie alone!
In Soviet Russia, forum triggers you!
User Bored_as_of_now sums it up nicely here: "As of now, the only reasons for this to be okay are aliens, cancer, or editing."
A Digg thread is started to wank about it some more!
There's even some trollery perpetrated, oddly enough, by a user called thetroll.
What with the God-modding and all, this could be deleted at any time. So...enjoy it while it's hot? Okay, lukewarm.

ETA2: We can has macro! Wank is now up to page 40! :o

I was wondering what had happened to my "new" episode. Wonder why they're postponing the two episodes. How bizarre.

Well, that makes sense, then. Now I can explain to my kids why daddy just turned more shades of red than what exists in nature, shaking my fists at the television, screaming in undecypherable grunts. *whew*... blood pressure returning to normal...

I love this comment.

A little bit of aheads up would have gain me another $275.00 THIS EVENING.

Hey, aheads-up: You can get a programmable VCR at Big Lots now for $40.

Then I sobered up and realized that if he could blow off $275 for a TV SHOW he can afford a TiVo.

Man, what's with the Olympics hate? The Olympics doesn't even air on Discovery (and I'm glad since it's hard enough keeping up with all the channels that do air it).

[info]vzg

Yes, but it seems like it's a pretty good chance that's why it was moved — they want maximum ratings on the first showing, and since other folks will be watching the Olympics on other channels...

Same as with why, I believe, recent movies have been released Wednesday instead of Friday.

I don't see why we should calm down. If they had given even a full day warning then I would maybe support a "be reasonable" arguement. But No they never even publicly hinted at this.

So lemme get this straight: if DSC had given you more warning, you'd be less wanky, and gave you less warning, you'd be MORE wanky? Hmmm.

"Will the amount of warning given before a pulled episode have an effect on fan wank and entitlement? Find out next time on Mythbusters!"

I decided to ask my mother when she'd first seen the term "trolling" used. "Oh, about 1985," she responded.

Yeah....

[info]kuromitsu

According to most members of a forum I frequent (the forum of the local Animax channel), fans are entitled to:

- Be told about scheduling changes. Duh.
- Be told what programmes the channel purchased, in the exact moment they purchase it.
- Be told what programmes the channel is planning to buy, including the ones they only have their eyes on but haven't negotiated about yet.
- Have a say in what programmes the channel purchases and airs. Because they're the audience, dammit!
- Have a say in the schedule. Because I can't watch Death Note if it airs at ten at night, mom sends me to bed at nine! (Alternatively: if you air kiddy shows so early then people will think I'm watching cartoons not anime, and this bothers me because I'm 22!)

I wish I were kidding.

"And this is why, despite the fact that I like mythbusters, I don't bother with the forums."

For reals. I mean, fer god's sake, they have to make REDUX episodes to appease the virgins nerds fans who bitch about how they didn't chew the mentos before putting them in the diet soda...

Those episodes always annoy me. Sometimes the fans will have a point, but I think that might have happened once. The rest of the time it's just someone who wants to cling to a myth a little too much. Like when they were angry the gun didn't peel like a banana when you put your finger in it... like in the cartoons.

Holy crap, dude. I love Mythbusters and everything, but they need to grow the fuck up.

I can't see scheduling work around a TV program either. If I ever did, I wouldn't whine about the schedule changing on me. I'd feel kind of embarrassed I sacrificed over 200 bucks to see a program that they'll rerun to death anyway. They make equipment that records that shit for you nowadays, too.

I ALMOST posted this yesterday. I logged into the fansite at a quarter after 9 on Wednesday thinking I'd somehow missed the new episode. That was about four hours after the OP went up and at that point it was already at 26 pages.

The screams of "ENTITLEMENT! EEEEEEEEEEEENTIIIIIIIITLEMEEEEEEEENT!" have turned my brain into vanilla pudding. On the one hand, I use that brain but on the other hand, hey! Pudding!
