A different flavor of vampire wank
What follows is an account written by swsa, a friend without a JF account, and it is such a classic take-the-money-and-run story that I present it to you unaltered (well, okay, I threw in some links).

~*~*~*~

In Moonlight fandom, their high priestess of campaigning is named Leeser. Leeser's status in the fandom grew and grew as she organized fan cons, did the leg work for their Variety ad, etc. She is absolutely beloved and a hero of their cause. Which is why another fan apparently felt secure enough to give her $11000 in order to pay for bus ads to run in L.A. This was all back in July. Since then, it's been one delay after another, and the fans were getting pretty pissy about not being given answers as to why ads that should've gone up in August, still weren't up in September.

So, finally the anonymous donor speaks up, with a tale of lost money, printers who were never contacted, and who then finally WERE paid, but only a fraction of what Leeser had told the donor it would cost, while thus far, the actual ad people haven't been paid at all...so basically, it all adds up to Leeser walking off with $10,075.

Now in comparison to scamming for lip gloss or ipods, it's pretty impressive. But what really makes this wank special is that Moonlight fandom is seriously like the most naive and trusting fandom EVER. Before Leeser has said even a word to explain herself, there are posters AGHAST that some are judging her!

QUOTE: I'm sure Lees will step forward and post something as soon as she's able, but that's not going to happen any sooner if the mood of the forums becomes increasingly hostile against her.

QUOTE: Simple way you should know she's not BSing... She uses her -REAL- name guys. And heck, it's not even a real large amount. $10,000... What is that? 5~ months rent in California?

Eventually, Leeser steps forward, and to the surprise of...not a single one of us who's ever been in fandom...THE MONEY WAS STOLEN. When a few people have the nerve to find this a bit doubtful, they're put on blast.

QUOTE: Wow...what a vicious pack this group has become...

What? You want a copy of the police report? How about having Leeser scan and post her new drivers license so you can confirm the date? Maybe she should provide three notarized statements to prove the theft?

Geez, get a grip.

QUOTE: do you know notice how it's always the same vicious pack of nay-sayers that like to cause the all of the dissention and doubt it seems to me they seem to get their jollies by trying to cause trouble & destroy our community because it's apparent to me they obviously have nothing better to do with their time.

There is even more in that thread about Leeser's daughter feeling suicidal because of her mother's fandom involvement, and a whole lot of "I can't believe you're making a fuss over this when people have lost everything in Hurricane Ike!" posts, and even a number of posts from sane people who realize they've all been conned. But overall, it's the most amazingly naive wank I've ever seen. It's kind of like getting in a time machine and going back to 1991 when people could still be shocked by online people lying.

QUOTE: One question. WHEN the bus ads appear am I going to see well needed apologies to Lees?

*head desk*

~*~*~*~

ETA: Bonus crazy: "I've been thinking about getting my teeth ground down and elongated." And that's from the star of the show.

ETA 2: Leeser returns!

ETA 3: More wank.

ETA 4: Now the thread's locked; wank has moved to the main Bus Ads thread.

(Sorry to fall behind, my power's been going on and off. Please send lipgloss, vanilla glitter is my favorite.)

ETA 5: Update! "Although Leeser did send the forms today, the funds cannot be verified until Monday. The donor also posted some messages back and forth where she's trying to get a direct explanation and getting only the run-around. Finally, she lays a mega smack-down on Leeser."

ETA 6: A new Leeser-bashing thread at the Blue Whale Pub; mod resignations.

(Why do I always end up posting wanks with multiple updates?)

ETA ∞: I was waiting to update until the supposed Leeser-vindicating deadline this afternoon, but it looks like... I don't even know what. So:

The donor updates:
The ad agency has stated they cannot confirm whether the funds are available or not. The New York office is placing at least a 3-5 day hold on Lesser's account in order to verify funding with the bank, however it may be longer. They are now hoping to be able to post this account on Friday. The ads have arrived and are waiting in the warehouse. Lesser is aware of this. I am so angry at this moment I dare not say too much more. One thing I must say though is to Lesser: Shame on you! To put me through this is one of the most unconscionable deeds I have experienced in my life.

Also: Homophobia on Leeser's board? Convention money shenanigans? Sockpuppetry? (Note: the Blue Whale Pub board seems to be down at the moment.)

ETA ∞ +1: And now about $8K in convention funds cannot be accounted for. (More.) Yes, we are pretty sure this is not VB on the rampage again.

ETA ∞ +2: I think [info]dhaunea called this one...

ETA ∞ +3:: The ads are going up on Monday?

ETA 9/29/08: Y'all, please somebody take this over and do a new entry or something. I can't keep up with all the board shenanigans now.

This is why you get to report these things. I'd cite the comment, then make people search for it. Well, that and I fail at html on JF for some reason.

Plus, this is just another reason we need to award you with a key to your own booze and pie storage unit.44152261

Er...ignore the numbers. My great Pyrenees puppy decided he wanted to be a lap dog and tackled me as I tabbed to post.

The sad thing is, I flagged dhaunea's comment in my inbox the moment I read it, because it was just one of those "Now that she's called it, it's totally going to happen" things. Always be prepared, yo (Girl Scouts represent!).

I was in Girl Scouts briefly. Then um...I wasn't. *Waves the flag of the few ever kicked out of Girl Scouts (for slugging the girl who threw cow poo at me)*

Man, American Scouts are way sucky compared to British. I got caught shagging the assistant leader in the cupboard where we were making wine and beer and growing a few pot plants, and got nothing more than a raised eyebrow.

A million years late, but I never actually got to join because the Girl Scout counsler didn't even like me. Despite the fact I was BFFs with her daughter and all.

I think she was trying to counter the awesome post http://forums.moonlightline.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=14054 which everybody, including the mods, loved and adored. Sadly, as per the norm, lstevens jumped aboard the fail bus. Well, more like smacked into the side like a cartoon coyote; I don't think the other members of the fail bus would even open the doors for her, which says something with elizabluff, bluerose, and themis are taking turns at the wheel.

You know, I have a teenage son, if he stole something from a store, I would still love him. Yet, it doesn't make his actions right and I would make him do the honorable thing. (Okay, because I'm the parent and he sometimes, sorta, maybe listens to me.) Still, the theory is simple, you love them, but you may not like their actions. You support them by encouraging them to do the right thing...not make stupid posts about real friendship being like a deaf frog or something equally as insane! Is this hard for these people to get??? Also why are all these people required for some sort of trip to the doctor/emergency room/morgue? Yeah, I know laying the groundwork for the eventual flounce of epic proportions…

Damn it, where is the clue stick? Did these few 'special snowflakes' get confused and hit themselves with a glue stick?

Leeser strikes me as the sort of person who removes bandages very slowly rather than ripping them off really fast to get the pain over with. She's dragged this out for over a week now and her continued silence grows more damning by the day.

Well, except when she pops in occasionally to blow around some more smoke and then disappears like a ninja with any and all understanding people had at that moment.

As for lstevens and the other flag wavers, the clue phone is STILL ringing and they seem to think it's a telemarketer.

Wanted to share this, in case it was removed, I think we are teaching them well! This is a satire post from VampLovinMom http://forums.moonlightline.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14066

September 25, 2008. Breaking News. The Hollywood Reporter scoops all other entertainment sources again with news that Leeser is close to closing a deal with a MAJOR Hollywood player to bring one or more of the Golden Fang Award winning stories to the big screen.

(Picture of Leeser, obviously not copied. In the great words of Barney or Doug Henning, use your 'imagination.')

Leeser, a currently elusive, but powerful Hollywood player, well known for her super secret contacts in the entertainment biz pertaining to Moonlight, made this startling announcement today broadcasting via a top secret location.

Moonlight, a short-lived but well loved vampire detective series sky rocketed hot Aussie newcomer Alex O’Loughlin to fame. Unverified sources have leaked through unverified channels that O’Loughlin credits Leeser with much of his current success. In addition, Leeser shot to prominence as she became the self-proclaimed leader of eight million Moonlight viewers and used her cunning financial prowess to raise funds for the Moonlight cause.

Of the Golden Fang Awards, Leeser explained the awards were an opportunity for amateur fiction writers world wide to submit original writings based upon the Moonlight premise. “The Moonlight fan base served as the judges for the submitted writings” she added. Leeser graciously offered the coveted prizes for Golden Fang Award Winners, a blood vial prop from one of the Moonlight episodes.

Leeser, reading from a prepared script and with a shaky voice first stated that she was still recovering from a traumatic daylight robbery by six masked gunmen who stole her wallet while on her way to have lunch with her child. In a quivering voice, she explained to this mesmerized reporter that if Jason Dohring had not personally taught her self-defense and Sophia Myles had not given her the key ring mace, she feared the bandits would have made off with more than her wallet containing $3000.25.

This brave woman brightened considerably when she turned her attention to the Golden Fang announcement. Explained Leeser, “Although my traumatic personal attack has prohibited me from making a more public announcement, I wanted THR to let Golden Fang Winners know their reward for winning was being delayed pending the finalization of the major Hollywood Deal I am currently negotiating with my ‘sources’”.

States Leeser, “I just got off the phone with my contact who is speaking with major studios and actors about this deal. As details finalize, I will announce them to you, but not before…I was raised to never release information until all the details are final…so blame my grandparents who raised my parents who raised me that way.”

As I ended my exciting conversation with Leeser, she promised more information as her contacts provided it. And then she was off…a busy woman with major business deals to close regarding ad agencies, printers, bus lines, debit cards, and internet sites. Ah…the life of an important business woman.

Stay tuned as Leeser provides more exciting updates to THR.
