Oh my.
Sorry, Ruins of Filgaia. You may have been my haven once, but this has too much wank potential to pass up.

There have been uncomfirmed rumors at this point that the new Wild Arms game will be a remake of the first one. Some people have heard that it is a whole new game, while some have heard that it's just a touch-up of the old PS1 game.

http://ruinsoffilgaia.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=523

This starts off with one of the admins, Rudy, professing what is said is being planned. Some people are very happy, because it's Wild Arms updated. The second admin, Lady Harken, is less than happy about this. She rather likes the original, going on to say this:

And I'm still asking, what the hell is the point in remaking perfection?

People start smooching her ass agreeing with her. Then comes the second page, and Bright's comment.

It seens that you people don't like wild arms at all.
I don't see whats wrong if a remake, to see places in 3d, voice acting and alot of cool stuff.

You shouldn't say anything before see new info, so lets just stick and think what could be good....

Lady Harken takes great offense to this, saying that she "do not want to see them mess up the original perfection." She cites Anastasia Demi (the third admin) site as the proof that they are teh l33t Wild Arms fans.

Bright's next post... oh my.

No, i really mean it.
You people say NO to a new wild arms release.
They proby have add new scenes and animation.

I agree that they would mess if they re-edit the storyline drastic, but what do we know? Nothing has been comproved yet.

If they re-edit the songs or even change it alitle, It would be a big mistake.

But i don't think Contrail/sony will make such mistakes.

Think about it, who knows that it'll be with the same characters? Who knows if its a side story after the WA 1? No one knows it yet.

But I really look forward to this game. I don't make fast judgements, so you should'nt too

Like i said before, lets wait a litle while for more info.

Quote:
I beg your pardon? Them's fightin' words, lil' dragon

See the banner above ? Tell me....
I am not saying that you guys hate it.... but thats what i said after seen that.

I know you guys are worried.... but lets have some faith on sony. We are from RoF, we should consedeer that.
Besides, Every WA game is good, why would this be bad?

Quote:
If you think they'll stop there, you have a lot more faith in a profit-driven game company than (most of) the rest of us. I kinda doubt that "90% rewritten" actually means changing "courage" to "bravery" or "Elw" to "Elf." No, I'm afraid Contrail is about to succumb to the dreaded "Bundle Pack Syndrome." Higher-tech doesn't necessarily mean 'better'...just look at the two recent "Star Wars" sequels (*shudder*).

For graphics, yes.
And for gods sake, don't compare luca's art to sony/contrail, its insulting.

Quote:
Hmm... I've been tempted to say something like "well, just think of it as a parallel version of the same story", or maybe "even if they mess it up, it's not like they've destroyed every copy of the original"... But then I realized that a remake would likely be what would stick out in the minds of the majority of gamers as "Wild Arms"...and remembered how I felt about the official SO2 manga completely writing out my favorite characters (10 Wisemen) and the anime completely changing them... Well, I think I can understand what everyone's worried about now.

Well yes.... SO2 manga/anime was 40% changed

When they said re-edited the script, i think they just fixed some texts and add some more, like explenation about the 5 rest characters and some in-dephet stuff.

In the other board i post, everyone agreed with that, i though i could see the same here O.o
But well.... Who i am too judge people toughts? Thats just my opinion.

Quote:
Excuse me?

I'm afraid it's exactly the opposite: we LOVE the game and do not want to see them mess up the original perfection.

And if you're talking to Anastasia Demi, check who you're talking to again. She runs the biggest Wild Arms site on the net.

To me it seems that the people who DON'T care about the game want this remake, while the true fans are kinda against it...

They won't mess with the game, they still have sanity, not like squaresoft and a final fantasy per day.
Pluss, they were working on it before, its not just a money-get release. They're thinking about the WA fans, i am sure they won't mess with it.

By Anastasia Demi, i don't care about it.
If she runs the biggest wild arms site it is wrong that she is against a WA game.

And also, people who care about the game, really wants a remake, becase they can something with diferent eyes, an example is Dragon quest 3, have you seen it to snes? they remade it with a better graphics and best quality on the musics. They'll make the same in wa, no story-line change, but an pluss-add on it ^_^

Whew.... Thats it

Bright ( Wild arms forever in my RPG list )

Mm. The smell of Wild Arms wank budding.

ETA: My, my. Lady Harken.
To me it seems that the people who DON'T care about the game want this remake, while the true fans are kinda against it...
ETA 2: Bad Missitar! Bad Missi! You warned them, and it was locked!

... oh, jeebus christmas.

Of course, releasing a new version of the first game means that they'll be coming to your home and ripping your copies of the original 'perfect' game from your cold, dead hands! It must be stopped at all costs else all trace of the 'real' first game will be lost! God forbid we should be able to play a version of the first Wild ARMs in which the characters did not look like those little plastic Fisher-Price people that toddlers gnaw on!

The Ruins of Filgaia people kind of scare me to begin with; I remember once I placed a bid on a Wild ARMs doujinshi on eBay (which I did not win, alas) and one of their moderators sent me email through the eBay system all thrilled that someone else liked the series enough to bid on a doujinshi from it and had I ever thought about joining Ruins of Filgaia the biggest Wild ARMs fan community on the 'net? Now, I enjoy the Wild ARMs series an awful lot and do consider myself something of a 'fan', but... not that much.

(And dragging in the SO2 manga, which is a whole different beast than a game remake... oh, I'm not even going to start, because I'll never stop.)

Don't forget the anime version! And the Game Boy remake/remix/proto-sequel/whatever...

Actually, I don't think "Wild Arms" was really all that obscure, seeing as it was one of the first Playstation RPGs, wasn't it?

Oh hey, that happened to me too well over a year back*. I got an email from one of the other bidders - I forget her name offhand, and I can't recall if she was a mod or not (think she was, though), but she definitely wasn't Harken or AnastasiaDemi. Anyway, she didn't tout it as "the biggest WA fan community online" or anything, and her message was just a casual "Hey, if you like WA, you might want to check this place out sometime."

Anyway, I didn't think there was any sin in doing a little bit of advertising, so I went to check it out, and it was kinda a nice forum at the point when I first visited. However, during my month or two of hovering about, the board degenerated quite a bit (with a number of what seemed to be personal dramas involved), so I got bored and left. I tried to go back a few months later to see if things had improved, and while it was quieter, it didn't seem to have changed much.

Though... while this is really fucking wanky and reeks of the classic old!fan vs. nu!fan stupidity, I don't think it's entirely fair to categorize everyone in the forums as "scary" - [info]chaoscheebs is a mod there for the Game Help section, and she's definitely not scary at all, just goofy and funny, and has the sense not to let herself get dragged in by anyone else's infighting**. And I'm sorta acquainted with Pegucci from my friend [info]shinkuu's old guestbook/board, and she/he was always pretty level-headed and fun-loving in conversation - dunno if that's still the same case, but still...

I do realize they're "more the exception than the rule," though. However, that's pretty much the case for ANY fan community (large or small), so it's not like it's an unusual thing to happen. *shrug*

Anyway, back to the actual subject... *shakes head again at the wank* ...Jebus, copies of the original game CAN still be found, yo. Just search around some of the used stores, online stores, and trading sites like gametz.com. And we don't even know HOW accurate this info is - for all we know, the rumor about what the game is about is false and it's actually a new story. It's okay to excersise SOME skepticism, but getting paranoid about how it's "going to ruin the fandom" before it's even OUT or before we even know any concrete details?

And even if it DID suck mightily, the idea that it's going to "ruin" WA fandom at all is... well, to put it in the usual F_W lingo: "Bitch, PLEASE." I mean, it survived WA2 (which IMHO, despite having some fun elements, is honestly the weakest link in the game series) before, right? :P

Honestly, it seems like a few people there need to be directed towards my old rant, which despite being mainly about anime, is easily applicable here.

*[Though I did win the doujinshi I was bidding on... wonder if we were fighting over the same one? *LOL*]

**[I didn't meet her thanks to that board, though - I already knew her from years back. ^^]

Chibi... can be nice. She isn't that active, though. Pegu, though... he/she is next in line for admin, I swear. Pegu takes care of Chit Chat, as well as the fighting arena, which are the two most active forums. He/She is also a very old member. And once that happens, RoFF will find it's TRUE insanity. Pegucci as an admin. Nice if scary thought.

Wait a minute, JUST "can?" XD

*LOL* Er, sorry, you'll have to excuse my bias in her favor - I don't really know how her rapport with others is on RoFF itself, and if the behaviors from any of the forum-goers there require her to take a different attitude than her usual. ^_^;;

I knew she wasn't very active, though - she was already posting a lot less the time I tried to visit the place again. Guess that hasn't changed, then.

Pegu, though... he/she is next in line for admin, I swear.

Pegu I knew (or rather, Pegu recognized ME when I first dropped by) under the handle of "Ellipses" over in my friend's GB. And yes, his/her gender was as much of a mystery there as it is(was?) in RoFF. *snerk*

And once that happens, RoFF will find it's TRUE insanity. Pegucci as an admin. Nice if scary thought.

Hahahahahah! Well, Pegu -from what little I know of him/her, as I've never had the chance to get better acquainted- seems like a pretty cool and wacky sort of person. ^^

Pegucci, IIRC, went by either "Ellipses" or "..." (in other words, actual ellipse marks) in Shinny's GB. I don't know him/her all that well, though, because (again, IIRC) he started to post at about the same time I started posting less frequently and eventually lost contact with y'all.

I think Pegu must've lurked for a long time at the GB (and I think the Asylum as well), though, since he/she recognized me like, immediately after I posted the first time at RoFF to say hello. It was rather amusing. ^^

And in relation to the wank itself, I noticed this bit from Harken on page 3 (scroll down):

I saw that "report". Apparently Silver Angel doesn't have the guts to tell it to my face, but rather has people who aren't involved and don't know a thing about this forum laughing behind our backs.

Addition: Ignore that. It appears I got some part of that wrong, so nevermind.

*shrug*

Oh well. You're right, Missitar. Both sides could've afforded a little more tolerance, without jumping to conclusions. Still. Opinions are opinions, and it's hard to change someone else's opinion, really.

I'll leave the matter to rest now, though. It's pointless to argue about a matter we don't know much about. More info will come out later, I'd guess, so we'll see.

I was about to laugh at that first part*, but it seems the peeps there calmed down, THANKFULLY.

*[< rant > So a few folks who replied here aren't familiar with the forum or are WA fans... so? They're all still fans of some kind, so they know what's it like to see flamewars on things like this. Good wank is pretty self-evident - you don't need to know the nuances of the fandom to get the general idea of things. Also, what's the problem with venting elsewhere about your forum of choice? What, are you only allowed to talk about the nice things about them now? < /rant >]

About that first part... *points* I left RoFF on kind of bad terms, and I've only recently considered going back. Harken was talking about that, and the fact I didn't take this whole thing to her face. Oh, gee, I'm sorry for making fun of the flame war. Ew. Haha! Well, like I said, you'll have to excuse my bias here - she was one of the first two fellow fans I ever started associating with (the other being Alruhi/Jurhael), and I'd have to say that if my first experiences with fellow fans hadn't been so pleasant, I'm certain that I wouldn't be so fond of fandom (despite all my gripes about its stupidity) as I still am. The fact that this was like 5-6 years back and I still mantain a more than fair amount of contact with her even though our schedules don't coincide much anymore to chat on AIM or anything (ditto with Alruhi - thankfully, they're both on LJ, so keeping in touch isn't a problem for me anymore) would probably attest to how much I enjoy her company. ^^

And yes, Peg is cool. Always has, always will be.

I didn't get to know Peg very well in the other hangout because he/she stepped in at about the same moment I started going MIA (as mentioned in another post), but what little I know of him strikes me as pretty cool. Glad to know I'm apparently right on that hunch. ^^

Might be, if you're thinking of the correct handle. I remember there was at least one other person there who liked Shu x Tosh, so I might be wrong.

Anyway, I used to go there by the handle of "aderall." Actually, I still have the account, just haven't logged into it in a long time. And I could've be an Elite by this point had I at least logged in every day! Oh no, I'll never get that precious level at this rate! *CRY*

IIRC, you were something like "Namida no Miko," right?

Truth is, I stopped going to GameFAQs once all the *gasp* drama *fake swoon* started to be combined with topics that didn't interest me.

Heh... I looked at the AtL: Twilight of the Spirits board about a month back to search for a small piece of info about Maru's skills. I then realized just how much I had forgotten on how much those boards tend to wank and suck, and thus my leaving them. *snerk*

Bwaha! Fortunately I lost mine only a month or so ago, or I might have to sniffle violently at you!

*LOL* Well, I certainly don't recall buying any WA doujin last month, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't the same one, then.

I usually get WA doujin from Yasushi-san of Doki Doki Station nowadays, though. Expensive, and I'm often beaten in getting to the WA1 (and sometimes the WA3) stuff first, but he usually finds some great stuff. *huggles her little collection* ^_^

*looks @ your info* And d00d, you talk about doujin in your JF account? I'll have to drop by later to read and comment, then. :)

So I guess they do this sort of thing... regularly? Eeeeeek.

Actually, this is the first time that I've seen the "true fan" thing, I think (It's been a long time, though, so I'm not 100% sure.). The wankiness that made me leave was a recurrence of personal stuff between some of the forum members (that should've probably been taken to a private chat or email or something, IMHO). It had absolutely nothing to do with me, but when you get a bunch of topics like that getting tons of replies and the potentially interesting discussions being neglected over a long enough period of time, folks like myself tend to get a bit bored - I don't care much for fandom politics of any kind.

I don't know how things are nowadays though, to be totally honest (Guess you'd have to ask [info]chaos_priestess about that one.). They could've improved in that area, for all I know. *shrug*

(I'm reasonably sure the email I received was actually from Lady Harken, because I remember reacting to the character's name, but it's been a while since I deleted it.)

The more I try to remember, the more I'm sure that the person who emailed me was a lady who went(goes?) by the name of Silver. Don't recall too much, but she (if I'm thinking of the right person, that is) seemed pretty nice, and also liked the Brad x Billy pairing for WA2, which was extra points in my book. XD

What, no one else thought that the remakes actually improved on the collossally hideous mistakes of the originals? SegaCD's Eternal Blue's point system for saving was the most stupid thing EVER. I felt a sheer, complete joy at seeing that thing gonegonegone in EBR. Keeping me from saving my games does not make a game harder--it makes me annoyed that I have to fight x number of battles before I can friggin' turn off the game.

As for the differing plots... eh. ^^; I never got involved in the games enough to really care for see it either way...

Well, if memory serves me right, the flap was mostly about the storyline changes, not the gameplay engine changes (for the most part... the changed music and the only barely improved graphics were sore points). Apparently (I can't tell you for sure, since I've only played the PSX remake versions) Ghaleon's motivations and the backstory to the entire first game are quite a bit different in the Sega CD version, painting Ghaleon as more of a "tragic figure" than the PSX version's "I didn't get my way WAAAAH WAAAAH".

Personally, I loved the games regardless. Though with the recent release of yet another remake of Lunar: The Silver Star (Story Complete Legend DX Alpha Eins), I can certainly understand the whole "STOP RELEASING THIS GAME COMPLETELY DIFFERENT EACH TIME THX" mentality to an extent. Game Arts is having more trouble with the number 3 than Capcom and the old-school Street Fighter series.

I never played the original TSS, but EB was my first (and last) game on the SegaCD. I got up to where Borgan was, got slaughtered, and never looked back. Mainly because I spent so many points SAVING THE GAME instead of, yanno, using my points to UPGRADE MY WEAPONS.

Yesh. The same points to save were the same points you needed to make your boomerang kickass and to make Leo the godsend that he is. STOOPID DEVELOPER WHEN WIL U LAERN.

I do remember another point they changed about TSS was that whole boat scene--this time Luna rides with Alex instead of being left behind.

As for EB, I noticed the difficulty definitely went down, and Lucia herself became more 'humanized,' but so much time had passed between the time I played EB and EBR that I can't remember much.

.. beyond that the battle with Borgan had definitely been toned down.

Since I never followed Lunar extensively--I enjoyed the games to the point that I bought and played and beat them, but I never wanted to be part of the fandom, beyond a slight fangirling over human!Nall--there's another remake of TSS?

... wow.

Wow. ... no, 'wow' isn't the word I want.

WTF?!

... although, I wouldn't mind a remake of EB, where, yanno, Lucia isn't a useless member of your party.

Okay, I mainly said what I wanted to say on the subject of Wild Arms F in my other reply, but I just noticed this:

They won't mess with the game, they still have sanity, not like squaresoft and a final fantasy per day.

Oh, I just LOVE when people use their so-called "obscure" fandoms to go for the Square/any other mainstream-bashing. Seriously, am I the ONLY person out there who enjoys BOTH so-called "mainstream" and so-called "niche" RPGs?

They're starting to remind me of the Suikoden fans that start flaunting around how "rare" and "non-mainstream" their fandom is. Umm... HELLO MEATHEADS, Suikoden IS a mainstream fandom - IT'S THE BIGGEST, MOST WELL-KNOWN NON-SQUARE RPG SERIES THAT THERE IS!

You can maybe make a case about how it was obscure IN THE WEST back when there was only the first Suikoden (You can't, however, make the same claim for Japan.), but NOT after Suikoden 2 - I still remember the PRETTY DAMN HUGE influx of fangirls back when that game was new! Thus, anyone who says "Oh no! They've gone mainstream with Suikoden 3!" makes me snort and laugh my ass off.

I mean, for fuck's sake, if you're going to flaunt about how l33t you are for liking a "non-mainstream"/"obscure" series, do me a fucking favor and pick something like LEGEND OF LEGAIA. Now THAT is something you don't see so many fans of around.

*cough* I don't quite see why anyone would feel the need to brag about a nonmainstream fandom. Yeah, there are nice benefits, like the fact that practically everyone knows each other and there are fewer idiots to deal with, but I don't see how it makes anyone "cooler" or "1337er" just because of that. If being involved with an obscure fandom automatically makes you cool, I have to go break down in a corner and cry. Because there are a few people in FE fandom that I simply can not believe that of.

{Seriously, am I the ONLY person out there who enjoys BOTH so-called "mainstream" and so-called "niche" RPGs?}

Nope.

Reading this I was think duuude I SO have to induce these folks to the ones on the Shoujoai board who bitch about Yuna being turned into a 'slut' for FFX-2.

Is it just me, or is being a true/real fan a little like being a real goth, or being cool...in that if you have to refer to yourself as one, you automatically are not one?

Ah, yes. Because a messageboard full of fans crying and whining is going to stop it. XD

Whoops. Should have listened to that little voice in the back of my head that was screaming "Add Ana's banner!"

You know, when I heard that WAF might be an 'updated' WA1, I'm like, 'shrug.' Actually, the idea is interesting, in that I'm curious to see where it goes. If I don't like it, I still own my copy of WA1. I only hope that the music isn't changed in WAF, if WAF = WA1. This means I can actually own the COMPLETE soundtrack to WA1, unlike that poor excuse of an OST that barely had half the tracks in the game, and not even most of the good ones (Boomerang Remix, I'm looking at you.)

Stupid naive me didn't realize that people were going to piss all over it.

To me it seems that the people who DON'T care about the game want this remake, while the true fans are kinda against it...

Damn, I thought I'd be able to lay claim to the 'True Fan' status, being as I think WA1 was the best of the series--and replayed it more than any other RPG save Chrono Trigger--and worked hard to spread the LUV.

::sobs:: I really wanted that True Fan badge too! Oh woe!

I'd just like to say that I am glad they're doing a remake. Wild Arms wasn't perfection in my eyes, but then again, I was never a huge fan of it. So, I'm not a "TRUE FAN!"

I can live with that, trust me.

As for Ruins of Filgaia, I never got involved with that board and I don't intend to now.
