WoW Wank that ISN'T on the Official Forums!
So, as some of my fellow WoW junkies may have discovered, the recent 3.0 patch for the Wrath of the Lich King thoroughly broke the user-created WoW Model Viewer program.

On the forums for the WMV, there is a post by pseudo-admin Zayfox offering steps to help fix the problem by essentially fooling the program into thinking you're actually using a version of WoW that only goes up to patch 2.4.3. The steps are fairly involved, involving quite a bit of copying, pasting, moving, reinstalling, repatching, and messing around in the registry that some people might be uncomfortable with.

For the first couple pages things are fine. People say "yay, this totally worked!" or "hey, I still have a few questions", and life goes on. There are a lot of problems for people who run Vista, but overall things are peaceful and polite. Then faithfeen dares to mention fixed bandwidth problems and to ask for a possible "light alternative" until an actual 3.0-compliant version of the program is out.

Zayfox: Yes, Oh Demanding One. But until  I get the code from chuanhsing, I'm not doing anything. I'm on capped internet too, but I don't tell everyone.
If you love it as much as you say you will think logically and download the "copypasted" version of WoW on the last day of your download plan.

faithfeen replies saying s/he already planned on doing that, and only mentioned bandwidth to clarify that s/he was "not not following the steps because I 'don't feel like it'". Once again, life goes on...

That is until Throatslit feels the need to point out that anybody who isn't thoroughly and blissfully happy with this fix is obviously being totally unappreciative! And this is where Zayfox starts putting on his martyr hat.

Zayfox: Throatslit, thank you =) I worked through the night on the program and almost missed an exam at school the next day.

You see, he's sacrificing his education for you people!

Things really start getting fun when Redith137 shows up. He admits to being "tech dumb" and basically asks for a bit more clarification. Foxboron wonders how Redith137 managed to register on the forums since he apparently can't read. Zayfox essentially tells Redith137 he must be stupider than a 10-year-old if he's having trouble.

A few posts later, someone mentions a perfectly legitimate issue regarding the companion Map Viewer program, and Zayfox feels this is grounds to warn us all that we'll be sorry if we aren't nicer to him! User Muffiny agrees, and reminds Zayfox that such is the tortured life of a developer, and all these people with problems are just "inconsiderate". (And here I thought a program developer might appreciate being alerted to various problems with their programs and hotfixes...) The previously mentioned Pinkhair pipes up with some surprise that Zayfox is taking all this so harshly, and Zayfox proceeds to reply to her and several other posts (including one apparently deleted one) in a great passive-aggressive way.

After this things are quiet... for all of half a page, when user Ziya dares to commit the ultimate sin of offering their own version of the step-by-step instructions that might help those who might have problems and that (at least to me) read more easily than Zayfox's original post. Zayfox is not happy.

Zayfox: Dunno who the hell you think you are.
2 things:
1) This is my help thread, don't tell people they can wait. I'm working on a fix.
2) what you did is the same as my way my way, all you did is write a load of crap in it as well.
Kindly don't reply to this thread again unless you have thanks, questions or suggestions.

So... apparently Zayfox is the only one who can tell people they need to sit on their hands and wait for a fix, as well as the only one who is allowed to write step-by-step instructions. And I think he forgot to mention that only thanks are welcome, but all questions and suggestions must be approved first, or else they risk a snarky and butthurt reply.

User Selkhet fires back, pointing out that Ziya was only trying to help. Zayfox doesn't like this either.

Zayfox: Next time I'm abused, I'm removing my patches from here and leaving, I'm fed up of the sh¡t I get from the people here. So RAWR!

That's right, folks. He'll take his toys and go home, and it'll be all your fault for being so MEAN to him!

Muffiny shows up again, with a version of the "don't leave, we luv u!" post. Actual administrator hellfire delivers a very mild stfu, and hjklmnop tries to get everybody to just take a pill. But Zayfox has one last reminder about how much he suffers for you people.

It peters out around there, aside from one honestly humorous post by Pinkhair comparing the hotfix to making tasty sandwiches. Rather disappointing that it ended with such a whimper, rather than a bang, but seeing as there still is no 3.0-compliant version of the viewer, we may not be done here yet.

ETA: The forums seem to have asploded for the moment. Woe.
