Dan Savage would probably have a few things to say about this. I think my general thought is:

You can and, in the right places, totally should reveal your kinks/ fetishes if that's what you want to do. However, if it's weird or unusual, you also have to accept that people will probably make fun of you.

Personally, if I were meeting someone on the internet, I'd rather find out about some fetish that totally creeps me out (or, hey, really gets me going) while we were still talking on the internet, rather than when I'm in their bedroom tied to the headboard.

That's one of the weird things about belonging to an alternative sexual subculture. The "discovery" phase is kind of topsy turvy. I mean, NORMALLY people would go through the friends/getting to know you/dating stage first, before learning about sexual proclivities. But we know exactly what weird shit someone does in the bedroom before we even meet in person, quite often.
