Entry tags:fandom: twilight, not good with criticism, spoilers- noooo! you bitch! you bitch!!!

You know you want more Twilight wank.
On [info]overheardinmelb, [info]lythdan posts an overheard conversation. This includes the revelation that Bella Swan 'wasn't a vampire for most of the series...'

[info]princessjess22 comments with:

Oh crap.
That should have a spoiler :(
I have tried so hard to shut friends up, not read the Twilight books I have sitting there, quickly close browsers when I see a spoiler warning.. then BAM! Now I know :(

That probably sounds so pathetic. But I'm really annoyed by this..

Waitaminute. She's been trying not to read the books? Bzuh? What madness is this? It's okay! Her motivation is revealed a little further down:

Die hard fans wouldn't want any disappointment, and would resist the temptation to read the books before seeing the films.

(Emphasis on the batshit mine.) Oh, of course. That totally explains it. Naturally everyone would want to wait an extra few years to see all the films when they have the books right there.

She gets laughed at, and flounces. Said flounce is shared with the comm, and [info]tokicat finds her tumblr, which has some more BAAAAWWW I WAS ARSERAPED.

tl;dr: Twihard claims films > books (uh, I think) and she therefore isn't going to read the books until she's seen the films, but still doesn't want zomgspoilers! Whut.

Edit: Wanka breaks rule 3.

I don't know. In her defense, the film was significantly better than the book because it had a lovely score and also had Charlie in it.

But, then, this:

Do you know what I hate about LJ?
The communities.

Is she claiming to be too stupid to join a Twilight comm, and trying to pretend that it's their fault?! I mean, what?!

I've actually found that it's often easier to see the movie first and then read the book because you're a lot less frustrated by how the film changes the book and can just see the film for what it is.

But, seriously, after a certain point you just acknowledge that the spoilers are out there and live with them. As someone in the thread puts it: If the only way to enjoy the book is not to know what happens next, it's not a good book.

Maybe other fans assumed that someone who was on a Twilight fan forum had actually read the books? Weird, I know. But even the other Twihards seem to be logical enough to expect that of someone.

No matter how bad a book series is, if a person prioritizes seeing the movies before reading the books there is something very wrong. Not wanting to read bad books at all is one thing, and just going to the movies to point and laugh. (Everyone needs a hobby.) But watching the movies and planning to read the books but WAITING until all of the movies have been viewed, and complaining about book-spoilers when in a place where everyone is expected to have read the books? That should be the new dictionary definition of "FAIL".

Die hard fans wouldn't want any disappointment, and would resist the temptation to read the books before seeing the films.

She shouldn't really complain you know. Die hard LoTR fans had to wait for about 50 years or so for a decent movie adaptation of the books afterall to avoid any potential disappointment.
