Seems that the scans_daily LJ comm just got nuked. Moderator Scmevil has the details User Crantz is squarely blaming writer Peter David for getting the comm shut down.

Not that there isn't some really over-the-top raging about Peter David and assuming, with little evidence, that he was the one that got the community deleted. But if you look at the thread, at least to me, it looks like crantz was just answering the question from the comment before hers/his, not actually placing blame on anyone.

Also apparently Peter David posted a response on his blog. It's pretty tame, just a little exaggeration about the post he reported to LJ. Most of the wank's in the (so far) 180 comments. My favorite, so far, by Luigi Novi who links to the edit history on Peter David's wiki page.

Mr. David, given your stance on Scans Daily, I feel I should make you aware of another web site that enables not only access to illegal comic scans but also comic spoilers. You seem to be in a better position to make Marvel aware of this than I am.

This site is known as Google (http://www.google.com/). By typing in a combination of words, such as "X-Factor #40 spoilers," any one is able to call up detailed plot points about an issue without buying or even reading the comic book. It seems to be the kind of site that could be very damaging to comic sales.

I hope you'll take the appropriate action. Thank you.

Frankly, I'm not sure who is guilty of what at this point, but it's pretty universal that PAD and X-Factor are at the heart of the controversy. And PAD has proven himself to be a horse's ass about the whole thing.

At one point he wishes he could have seen some of the Young Justice pieces, then rails about how he HAD to report the community to Marvel.

One assumes that he would have chortled over the YJ stuff then contacted DC's legal team. Or not. He's pretty much persona non grata there these days.

Sigh. And I was all set to start posting The Legend of Buck Wild, Mercenary Man for Hire...

I don't like his total innocent act though. He may not have been solely responsible, but he sure as hell looks to have got the ball rolling...

1. Journalista [The Comics Journal Blog] linked to Scans Daily constantly; Gail Simone and Warren Ellis commented there frequently - it's easy to assume that some publisher somewhere knows this community exists.

2. CBR runs a link, P David sees link. Suddenly Marvel is informed - Photobucket takes down various scans and Scans Daily is Suspended.

No, honestly, there's only one hand. While I liked one of the books he put out (and only one), the rest are mediocre at best. I doubt he took out s_d. But I don't doubt that he's been an occasional dick.

OKAY, RANDOM QUESTION TIME. I remember there was this one post that someone made on s_d that I loved (and bookmarked and everything, but it's gone, woe): it had an old man in a bookstore and the guy who owned the store said he had every book, except for one. It was gorgeously drawn and really sweet, and, uh... does anyone else know what I'm talking about? [shifty eyes]

There is a lot of wank going on in the comments of the Comics Should Be Good post on the subject.

I made a comment early on there, but I turned notifications on to get further comments in my inbox, and this morning I discovered one by Peter David where he says "It's my right to defend the sanctity of my work dicks". It seems as though the comment has been deleted, though, but here's a screenshot of it from my inbox.

I suppose it's possible that someone made the comment calling themselves Peter David, and it wasn't really him. No way to know, really.

Oh, and by the way, you spelled the moderator's name wrong in your post. It's [info]schmevil.
