Seeking wank!
FF.net has just changed its pseudonym policy, forcing all users to get original (on THAT site? LOL!) and use unique names. This has so far entailed forcibly changing all duplicate names without warning the users first.

Now, I have no problem with this policy. I actually took the ten seconds' worth of effort it required to land unique pseudonyms in the first place, so I'm unaffected and I don't honestly care. BUT. I guarantee this change has caused whining of epic proportions somewhere out there in fandom -- maybe even catfights over names! So this is me asking you to bring some to the table, if you've spotted it...

no hissyfits, but I did come up with these interesting stats:

There are now:

Sakura-Sakura32
Raven-Raven56
Angel-Angel90

mind-boggling, no? I'll post more later, no time now.

I'm not surprised that there are so many Sakuras and Angels and Ravens - I'm only surprised there aren't more. In fact, my own psuedonym is relatively unique ("Quoth the Raven" inspired by Edgar Allan Poe) and still there was one other. Granted I got there first, so the other person had to take the 1 after their name, but oh well.

Actually, though, what's a little wanky is what is written on the front page of FF.net - apparently none of the users were alerted beforehand to 'prevent abuse'. What kind of abuse? Changing their names? Sending cranky emails? Nothing they can't still do now, really. Bit wanky, if you ask me. Why not just do it and say "we've done it to make things easier on the readers and on us. Now shut up, because it's done" rather than try to put up a weird excuse like that?

I'm honestly curious about this one.

Jen / Quoth the Raven
