Not strictly fandom, but still spectacularly wanky:

LJer Ggirl complains about pictures of fat cats in kittypix.

2 pages and 159 comments of wank ensue, including sub-wanks about the "arguing on the internet == Special Olympics" picture and George Bush usericons.

I'm slightly squicked by the number of people responding to say, "My cat LOVES TO BEG and I'm not going to deprive her of her one joy in life!!"

*shudder* D/s interspecies relations make me want to say "retard" a whole lot.

Geez does this person actually OWN a damn cat? Cause I've had them for the 20+ years I've been alive and I can assure you that diets don't work.

Cats are more than happy to remind you about how 5 of thier 6 ends get pointy when they're unhappy.

Especially if you've got a cat like mine, who won't shut up until she's eaten, and assumes that everytime you do get up (this is all in the AM when she's fed), you're going to feed her.

I keep her on a diet formula so she doesn't gain too much, and her food is metered out. But she's still a little tubby; it's just the way she is.

I don't know how easy it is to put a cat on a diet - this being my first, but as long as her food tastes good to her, she'll eat anything.

Right. And I'm going to do what--put my cat on an exercise program? Maybe get him a little kitty treadmill? Please.

I don't know; you could make a nice income by making little kitty treadmills...

Only trouble is; convincing them to use it.

Since when did cats follow any orders that they didn't consider to be worth obeying?

Heh. My first cat was overweight most of her life, and we tried to get her to exercise, we really did. We chased her around the house when she stopped playing with toys very often. Problem was, when she'd had enough, she'd just flop down on the spot and refuse to move.

My cat Wink, when it gets to be about an hour before the time we usually feed him if you come anywhere near the kitchen he starts knawing on your ankles.

This ought to be good.

People who think "What's good for the goose is good for the gander".

Animals don't worry about their self-image; otherwise we'd probably have a lot of anorexic cats.

And besides, some cats (purebred or mixed) are naturally large. There are itty bitty cats and big hulks of cats; it's all genetics.

To be honest, I prefer fat cats to skinny ones, because honestly--have you ever met a fat cat who's bitchy? Sure, you'll have to get kitty Slim Fast, but still.

But that's my opinion. I'm more of a dog person, really.

Good point. I mean I have a female cat who's a little chunky but I've seen such a sweet disposition.

I also have a male cat who's skinny as all hell and has a horribly standoffish attitude.

Of course he could simply be hungry....

*shudder* ... Guh... some of the fanart is very hawt... but there's this one fanartist that's... in love with Gadget. I mean, LITERALLY in love. He draws very bad fanart wherein he writes love poems to her, has himself and her in "sweet" situations (with size difference accounted for)... one of the worst things about that last bit is that he seems to have a realistic body image. *hurl* 'Tis very disturbing.
Way the hell on the other hand, though, have you read the Rescue Rangers fan manga? It's REALLY good.
(As to fanfiction, only seen a couple, and you're right, none were any good.)

You mean "Of Mice and Mayhem"? Yeah, I've read it. It wasn't really to my liking though. The story was actually pretty good for the most part, but it kind of seemed like the author was trying to hard to make it "mature" (and of course, to get his supported couple to "come true"). I also thought the art was wildly, well, inconsistent. I swear that there was a panel in which Gadget looked like Mewtwo from the Pokemon Movie, and in another, she looked like a female version of the Brain... I did like it better the second time I plowed through it though.

Or maybe I'm just a grouch because my Rescue Rangers comic book memories date back to the old Gladstone/Disney comics. ^^;

Heh. I don't think making it more "mature" without making it "HAWT SPOOGE EVERYWHERE!!!" is a bad thing. For awhile that was what was nice about the Sonic comics. They had a creative team that realized that their original audience was no longer a bunch of eleven-year-olds spending their allowance. (Which got blown all to hell when Archie realized that it had a comic that wasn't childlike and repetitive, and fixed that post-haste.)

Ooh, good point.

My (now dearly-departed) Elmo-cat was GIGANTIC, even for a Maine Coon, and he was the sweetest cat in the world. My childhood cat Happy was the same on both fronts.

Then again, most-if-not-all of our cats are good natured (if a little bit annoying) I blame it on us giving them the run of the world, and FAR too much attention.

Taking a guess from her attitude, this person is upset that they're not surrounded by their usual crowd on that group. Seeing as how people like that are usually surrounded by little pussies.

While i can understand to an extent what she's saying (i've seen some GROTESQUELY fat cats in my time that just made me cringe...like, a beachball with a head fat), i think she's overreacting a tad. Not all fat cats are unhealthy, just like not all people who are classified as 'fat' are unhealthy.

I have three cats. Two of them are average size and my oldest is a very large breed of cat. When we take him for his vet checks, they don't take into account that he is naturally large and mark him as overweight (16 pounds). He does have a bit of hanging flab, but he's nearly 7 years old. I think the poor guy's allowed to let himself go a little ;p. But he has always been perfectly healthy.

Hmm. One of my cats, Wink, is fat, but he's also huge. And I don't mean fat huge, I mean big bones. Long, big head, big paws, big claws *winces*... he's about twice the size of his sister. (Who, incedentally, looks fat, so when you pick her up, expecting a heavy cat, you end up flinging her over your shoulder. She's just really, really furry.)

I know why he's so fat, too. When he finishes with his dinner, he immedietly boots his sister from her bowl and eats it, and his sister then boots my other cat from her bowl. So I have to stand in the kitchen and watch so that everyone get their fair share.
