Aaaaah, Harry Potter, the fandom that never fails to find different ways to wank.
terminal_frost is quite a prolific icon maker. She has a second journal,
striped_fox, in which she posts all of the icons she makes. In one of her latest posts, she displayed some Harry Potter house mascot icons that she made.
From a purely asthetic standpoint, the icons aren't that bad. But the problem is, the colors that she used for the icons aren't the correct house colors.
onceuponatime13 kindly pointed out that striped_fox had used the wrong colors, and wank ensued as striped_fox attempted to defend herself through various excuses, such as "the real colors don't sound right together," "words like 'bronze' and 'yellow' are too long to fit on an icon," and "they're my icons, so I can make them whatever colors I want."
Later, she made a post to
hp_icons whining about how people were flaming her and insulting her artistic vision in her own journal! (*gasp!*) My favorite part is this bit: (the emphasis is mine)
"Oh, and just for the record, the HP series, as good as it is, is not gospel, and nothing Rowling says should be considered iron-clad. If it's not stated specifically, then it is open to interpretation. (Look to fanart and fanfiction for a clear demonstration of that fact.)"
Um, excuse me? How is JKR not the person with the final say in something involving the series of books that she writes?
