The Russet Doom Saga, Part III
Lady Sybilla put out another press release. She also showed up at the Twilight Lexicon again, since that went so well the last time. (When the formatting gets hard to read, check it here.)

After her Wikipedia article was deleted (you can go to the Russet-Noon webpage for more information), Lady Sybilla edited the shit out of the Russet Noon Fanhistory page all by her lonesome (despire Laura Hale asking around on Bebo whether anyone else had anything to contribute).

And in case your blog entry about the whole affair shows up there, I'm sorry. Lady Sybilla farmed the Russet Doom Supplementary Links Collection and changed my format a little to make the attention seem less wholly negative.

Oh also I put together an entry in my journal with links to screencaps and transcriptions and things, for quick and easy reference.

So I was explaining this wank to my boyfriend, and I mentioned that the book was called "Russet Noon." He reasonably asked how that worked, because noon is generally not reddish in color.

I said people were suggesting that it was because Jacob Black is American Indian.

I would like a chance to provide neutral documentation about the Russet Noon controversy.

Because of course the author of the fanfic is going to be neutral. And of course Lady See-Bella has a long history of being balanced and objective.

I will be more than happy to edit any part of the article that might come off as promotional, but I also know that I am entitled to provide factual information about the novel.

Dear Lady See-Bella: Everything you say about it is promotional. The book hasn't been written yet. It's not available to anyone but the voices in your head. You're not reporting facts, darling (as would be appropriate in an encyclopedia); you're doing advance promotion for a product you intend to put on the market internet.

But who am I kidding--you're not going understand these subtleties any better than you did copyright law.

Please allow me a chance to become better acquainted with Wikipedia standards.

Because everyone deserves forgiveness. Especially whiny, narcissistic thieves who dish it out liberally but can't take it.

I assure you I have absolutely no intention of using Wikipedia as a promotional tool. I just want a chance to provide documented evidence about the Russet Noon case.

What case? It's not a "case". She was stupid on the internet, and now the internet is laughing. Case of a massively swollen head, maybe.

Random confession: I just recently watched My Brilliant Career, where Judy Davis plays a young woman named Sybylla. In my mind, out fair lady here looks exactly like this, complete with the frizzy hair and period clothing. It makes the whole thing slightly surreal. Judy Davis shouldn't have to suffer by playing Lady Crazy in my mental theater.

As more evidence for the argument of this woman Just Not Getting It there is this quote from her defense of why the Russet Noon Wiki article shouldn't be deleted:

"Please allow me a chance to become better acquainted with Wikipedia standards."

Now I admit to not being in the least bit familiar with how things work behind the scenes of Wikipedia, but the "Welcome to Wikipedia!" message on her talk page is dated 2005 which leads me to believe that her account's been there since 2005.

So if she hasn't been able to figure out what is and isn't appropriate to post on Wiki in four years, I guess the entire internet was just delusional in thinking that we might be able to knock it into her thick skull that copyright infringement is illegal in just a week or however long it's been.

Once again, I'd like to reiterate that the book is being offered for free to public libraries and any interested parties who would like to own it as a collectors item. Due to the accusations of copyright infringement, Russet Noon will not be sold for money ever again. However, the impact it has had on the artistic community, not only the Twilight fandom, merits its inclusion in Wikipedia.

I apologize if I appear to be "unwilling to stop editing the article." I'm just trying to provide balanced information about it, since I feel that the editors trying to delete it haven't done the necessary research to verify the extent to which this controversy has impacted the online artistic community. But if you guys decide I shouldn't edit it, it's fine. All I ask is that whoever edits or moderates it actually does so without bastardizing it (please notice Frogwidget's vandalism-style modifications to it, especially the link she added to the external links list).

OY. It totes impacts the Twilight fandom and deserves to be on Wikipedia or you know? NOT.
