The Russet Doom Saga, Part III
Lady Sybilla put out another press release. She also showed up at the Twilight Lexicon again, since that went so well the last time. (When the formatting gets hard to read, check it here.)

(Fanhistory links are all nofollow.)

After her Wikipedia article was deleted (you can go to the Russet-Noon webpage for more information), Lady Sybilla edited the shit out of the Russet Noon Fanhistory page all by her lonesome (despire Laura Hale asking around on Bebo whether anyone else had anything to contribute).

And in case your blog entry about the whole affair shows up there, I'm sorry. Lady Sybilla farmed the Russet Doom Supplementary Links Collection and changed my format a little to make the attention seem less wholly negative.

Oh also I put together an
entry in my journal with links to screencaps and transcriptions and things, for quick and easy reference.

Oh, and this:

To be honest, I haven’t read any fanfics out there by college-educated people. I’d love to read some to change my general perception of what I call the average fanfic writer.

But, but-! All the fanfic writers that I know in rl are college graduates! That doesn't guarantee a working grasp of grammar or a dedication to correct spelling, but still.

To keep from trying to reach through the computer and THROTTLE HER, I do want to say that I loathe Twilight fandom and I still think that unless she can only count the number of fanfics she's read on one hand that's got several fingers amputated, she's had to have read at least one fanfic by someone with a college education, meaning she's either a moron, full of shit, or both.

Maybe she just doesn't read fanfics written by other people at all.

That line reminded me of when deviantART explained that they allowed traced screenshot "fanart" because fanart in general is typically done by younger/less experienced artists.

Both myself and a good chunk of the fanartists I watch are college age and older, and some of us make a living in an artistic field on top of that.

So yeah, this is hardly a rare misconception about fanwork creators.

A certain guy from a certain comics company was looking for new colorist meat and happened to see a piece of fan art I did. That's how I got my first job and I've been working steadily since. Granted, it's indie stuff, but a paycheck's a paycheck and the indie stuff is a lot of fun. Looking down at fan artists is pretty silly to say the least.

*whimper* so... so... I'm not a fanfiction writer? Or is it my BA that isn't real? Now I'm getting confused.

In all seriousness, I think she just needs to get out more. And by 'get out' I mean 'get help'

Okay, that last one would be nice.

a) Yeah, no.

b) Woman, I never even completed middle school, and I would never say things this dumb about copyright law.
b1) OR BLOODY JUNG. You leave him out of this.

c) She seems to actually, seriously believe that her work is automatically better than that of people with less formal education. Or has more credibility or it makes her a better person or some absolute bullshit I am sick and tired of dealing with. That's so fucking cute. Shit. If I ever meet her in a dark alley, I'm going to knock her out with Truffaut's collected works and then beat her to death with a copy of Saint Genet.

I dunno about the twilight *is thwapped*, but throw a brick at almost any media series with a sizable fandom and you're bound to hit at least one person able to compose a coherent plot with proper spelling/grammar and thoroughly enjoyable smut. *is feeling nostalgic for her old RuroKen fandom of late*

I can't help but think of how many fanfic ideas were written and/or plotted during boring college lectures, and consider that maybe a college education might have more to do with fanfic than she thinks. ;)

Or the PhDs on my flist.

Seriously, fanfiction is one of the best ways to procrastinate on academic papers. Fanarts and gaming are the others.
