The Russet Doom Saga, Part III
Lady Sybilla put out another press release. She also showed up at the Twilight Lexicon again, since that went so well the last time. (When the formatting gets hard to read, check it here.)

(Fanhistory links are all nofollow.)

After her Wikipedia article was deleted (you can go to the Russet-Noon webpage for more information), Lady Sybilla edited the shit out of the Russet Noon Fanhistory page all by her lonesome (despire Laura Hale asking around on Bebo whether anyone else had anything to contribute).

And in case your blog entry about the whole affair shows up there, I'm sorry. Lady Sybilla farmed the Russet Doom Supplementary Links Collection and changed my format a little to make the attention seem less wholly negative.

Oh also I put together an
entry in my journal with links to screencaps and transcriptions and things, for quick and easy reference.

Unfunny tl;dr time!

I'm supremely uncomfortable with applying internet-armchair-psychology to someone you have never met in person. To obtain a diagnoses involves professional testing, and as Lady Sybilla is a adult, the onus would be on her to begin that process; it's not our responsibility (or the responsibility of anyone on Absolute Write) to diagnose her, or urge her to get diagnosed. Heck, considering she believes we're out to 'crucify' her, that would possibly even be counter-productive; she has no reason to think anyone who's said a word against her has her best interests in mind.

Additionally, if she really did have Aspberger Sundrome, we probably wouldn't be able to tell over the internet anyway. Aspberger Syndrome is most obvious during normal, personal, face-to-face interactions, when things like eye contact, facial expression, and body language come into play, i.e. situations completely unlike internet interactions. And Aspies aren't complete social oddballs; they usually have a theoretical understanding of social interactions even if they can't apply that knowledge in fluid, real-life situations. On the internet, interacting in the ways Sybilla has, one has plenty of time and opportunity to consider their actions and the subsequent consequences; she's taken her time to formulate comments, compose "press releases," and email people. She's been observing our reactions and deciding what to do from there (for example, "banning" her own site in the hopes of throwing us off her scent).

Besides that, Aspies may not comprehend social guidelines, but they are aware of them, and by the age of 36, someone should be able to understand their own limitations and act according to whatever coping mechanisms they've developed.

Additionally, Aspberger Syndrome might affect one's ability to present their case, but it would not change the fact that their arguments are bullshit. Aspberger's is a disability, but not a developmental one; it doesn't affect one's intellectual capacity at all. And Aspberger's is not a doctor's note or get-out-of-jail-free card for asshat shenanigans on the internet. And having a disability of any kind does not exempt someone from copyright laws.

So this means that we can (probably) still point and laugh at her without being total asshats then? That's a relief... I was a bit worried we'd have to stop doing that ;)

You are made of awesome. It seems a lot of people (especially psych majors who want to show off their learnings, or people who aren't psych majors but play ones on the internet) have a nasty little propensity to jump in and go, 'ha! crazy! let me tell thee why!' whenever this level of fan twittery presents itself.

*shrug* In the oft paraphrased alleged words of Freud: "Sometimes a twit is just a twit". I don't think it's necessary to "diagnose" more than that. But I think that the prescription for the Twit Syndrome would be great. One Extra Strength TwitBat. In case of Internet Twittiness, please strike forehead. Repeat as necessary until symptoms cease.

Twit Syndrome: The answer to "What the hell is wrong with you?" on the internet.
