It was more important to her that she die a human ([info]darlas_mom) wrote in [info]fandom_wank,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current mood: hungry
Entry tags:baleetion, entitlement, fan rage, fandom: buffy the vampire slayer, fandom: heroes, isn't it awfully nice to have a penis, misogyny soup, omg mock people mock, pairing wars, suck it up and deal, wanking inside the house

Oh, Heroes.
So I've been idly checking back here on and off all day to see if this wank's been reported yet, and finally decided I should just go ahead and write it up myself.

So, apparently, a big spoiler for the upcoming "Heroes" season finale broke on the interwebs yesterday. Today, the interwebs are responding in fine form, determined to break the "Heroes" writers right back.

Here, we have what started out as a spoiler wank, which has forked off into 'ship wanks, character hate wanks, an entitlement wank, and Fandom v. Fandom wank. Three Four wanks for the price of one!

A "Heroes" article in TV Guide started it all, with the news that one of the many rumored shocking twists in 3x25, "An Invisible Thread," is that resident psychotic serial killer Sylar will be proposing to Claire.

Cue: Fandom flipping the fuck out.

It starts on ONTD:
http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/34208194.html

The comments there are up to five pages and counting, with reactions ranging from "LOL what?" to "I'm going to take all my toys and go home" to "Bitch, please, I already took all my toys and went home" to an eye-melting collection of anti-dial-up animated gifs for your viewing pleasure. Some of the gems include:

IDGAF KILL SYLAR HE IS SO BORING NOW W/ ALL HIS LITTLE BOY BULLSHIT

ALSO FOR SOME REASON I THOUGHT CLAIRE WOULD DIE BUT SHE WILL ONLY BE AN OLD LADY WHO NEVER DIES LMAO AND SHE CAN'T GET DRUNK

I STILL WANT THE BOY WHO COULD FLY BACK YOU KNOW THE 2ND CLAIRE LOVE INTEREST AND THEY KILLED MY FAV OFF - DAPHNE BRB HATE THESE PEOPLE STOP KILLING EVERYONE

To be fair, I don't watch the show anymore, but I can't believe how they're trying to give Sylar all these love interests. Unless they want to do Mylar, I can't buy any of these ~relationships they're putting him in.

Not to be outdone, zqfans devotes a couple of threads to gagging, vomitting, screaming about the writers turning Sylar into a pedophile (shouldn't that be ephebophile?), screaming that Claire needs to be killed off now, and generally driving wahmbulances around:

http://community.livejournal.com/zqfans/198740.html
What is this, bad Marty Stue fic?

Yes. I'm waiting for the Kring self-insert.

He would run around saying "We'll fix it! We'll fix it! Oh wait, jk. lol"

I think he's already there. He's a brain slug that infects the characters to make them do stupid things.

OMG NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's just so very wrong and gross! Claire really needs to die, especially now.
Why Heroes?

Okay, now I feel sick...and I'm done with this show! WTG Writers, yet another fail and just drove away another fan!

The 'ship wanking begins there as well, with fun comments like:

still pissed off about this.. that means sylar totally forgot about elle because Sylar would never do that.. bleh..

No offense but uh, I think he forgot about her when he cut her head open and set her body on fire. But that's just me. xD

Bringing up the rear with more fun crazy, the Sylar/Elle 'shippers then come out to play:

http://community.livejournal.com/sylarelle/382368.html - Get this one while it's hot, guys, the mod has already asked the poster to flock it. (Zhe hasn't done it yet, however.) ETA: Bahleeted! Anybody got caps?

It's like beyond creepy! They turned Sylar into a sick pedophile and yet, we're supposed to believe he actually loved Elle at all? The writers pressed the reset button a little too hard.

And just when I thought they couldn't ruin Sylar anymore.... ZQ. Baby. I love you. But if this shit happens? I can't even watch for you anymore. And I was finally liking Claire again. Hopefully she'll be as disgusted as she looks in that scene with the wine. And do they really think they can sell a Sylar romance after HE KILLED ELLE? Seriously?

SYLAR LOVES/LOVED ELLE. PERIOD. NO ONE ELSE.

OMG ...lol...its a show, its not going to go the way you wanted so please grow up and learn how to be a proper fan. : )

It's here that the seeds of an entitlement wank a hate campaign are sowed, when faded_facade suggests that they begin twittering the actors, crew members, etc., to inform them of their displeasure. While faded_facade suggested they wait for after the episode has aired, it appears a few Syelles jumped the gun.

Crew member Wendi Allison Avignone, a make-up artist on the show, toys with the edge between snarky and classy when she responds to the hatemail on her twitter, wendilynnmakeup:

Thanks for the input everyone about the show. Very helpful. ;)

The Syelles have since formed an official hate campaign here:
http://community.livejournal.com/sylarelle/382827.html (Flocked, but community has open membership.)
ETA: Also bahleeted, with an explanation from one of the mods posted here: http://community.livejournal.com/sylarelle/387251.html (Why do I get the feeling this is only going to fan the flames and bring a few of the angrier ones over here?)

ETA: Thanks to a mousie for the tip: Check out this thread http://community.livejournal.com/sylarelle/382368.html?thread=3793312#t3793312

Save the fictional cheerleaders, guys! Real 17-year-olds with 30-year-olds is totally fine, though! Cause it's different! Because I ship them! You can only ship what I tell you to!111

ETA: It's the wank that keeps on giving. Now we've got fandom vs fandom as the Sylar/Claire and Buffy/Spike 'shippers go head to head on the TWoP forums on whose 'ship is more creepy and disgusting:

http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3144923&st=14775

This baby is small-ish, but growing. I've heard rumors that the Paire (Peter/Claire) 'shippers are wanking just as hard, but damn if I can find it anywhere.

You'd think they'd get the message their ship's sunk when, you know, Sylar killed Elle and set her body on fire. Obviously not.

And how does a serial killer actually propose? I vote he puts the ring in some guy's skull and then puts the top half back on and says "Lift up, honey. Surprise!" Much better than a champagne glass or a fortune cookie imo.

Sylar proposing to Claire? Not so interesting.

Seeing Noah's reaction to Sylar proposing to Claire? Quality entertainment.

Though I am laughing at the people who think Sylar/Elle is the OTP of Heroes. In fact, I laugh at anyone who thinks Sylar really wants to settle down with anyone. Sylar does what's best for Sylar, so you can bet there's more to his 'relationships' then he lets on at first.

Oh Heroes...

I fell in love with a vibrant young show; something at least halfway new, something interesting, something compelling.

Only over the years I've watched it fall apart. Turn into a half crazed mess with delusions of grandeur, an incapacity to act consistenty, and some type of amnesia affecting it's long-term memmory.

For a moment there I thought things were getting better, things almost looked bright, but obviously it's had a relapse.

I need to stop lying to myself, obviously it's never going to work. It's time I moved on. It's time I stopped addressing every illogical, incoherant change in Sylar's character with some form of 'He obviously hates the real him. He's obviously trying on a new persona to see if it fits better. It won't last, he'll go back to himself eventually.'

Yes. It's over. There's no point watching even just for Hiro and Ando any more, not after that last cringe-inducing episode.

Oh Heroes, if only you didn't follow the super hero comic book formula so well. I think I may give the show a chance again if they get around to following the trend of rebooting a series from the very beginning again in hopes of avoiding the problems plaguing the original series but ending up with the same issues anyway after a while anyway.
