My concubines are lame. Drown them all!
SGA ficcer is not getting the acclaim she says she deserves. So she is going to delete her LJ. Her 560 "friends" are not fawning enough so what's the point?!

There are at least 60 comments on her epic fic's last two chapters now. I'm too lazy to figure out how many there were before she flipped out. Also she posted the last chapter only yesterday.

And the mea culpas pour in--three pages of "I'm sorry/I suck/Plz don't go."

>
And one of them thinks she can get some LOVE IF SHE FLOUNCES TOO!

When someone points out the flounce. [info]sardonicsmiley doesn't argue much.

And she is finally called on her tantrum.

LOL ENTITLEMENT DEBATE.

eta: WOT? "I'm turning commenting off until the last part, because otherwise that would just be too much."

So she turned commenting off and then bitched about no comments? O_o

eta2: All this for an alias change?

ETA3: BAHLEETION!! (saved pages below)

page 1, page 2, page 3, and expanded smackdown. And page 4 thanks to [info]longtimegone! :D

I'm writing a fic right now that's averaging about eighteen reviews a chapter (plus about ten on ff.net) and this is utterly BLOWING MY MIND and shocks me every chapter. I can't imagine how ecstatic I'd be if I got FORTY.

What boggles me more about this wank than the OP is the people replying and acting like she's so totally justified in her wankery. ...Why?

OK, WTF? She said she was sick of LJ. How the hell is a new account going to change anything, except by losing all of her loyal readers and costing us the fic she's already written?

It'll probably be really easy for people who know her to recognise the new account anyway.

I am really saddened by how many people are apologizing for not being Better Readers (tm). As a writer, I often bitch about how little comments I get, but that's because I'm a frickin' narcissist. Not because I actually think I somehow deserve comments or respect or whatever it is she claims she wants, since she's now backtracking all over the place.

Especially since she pulled something similar in SPN (less flouncing, but the same amount of I'm done with you! except how I'm not! bullshit).

See, if you're going to flounce your way into a name change, the way to do it is to delete your journal without telling anyone, then start a new journal under a name that's slightly different than your old one and friend a small selection of people from your old journal, then use an f-locked post to fill them in. Then have fun sneaking up on people not in on the switcheroo.

Not that I would have any personal experience/knowledge of this, oh no, not me...

I know you said you have the HTML saved, but I thought I'd drop by with a screencap as well, just in case. It's got the main entry as well as the comment where other gal decides to try her hand at the flouncing business, but unfortunately it's missing the majority of the comments.

You know, this is why I hate that it's called a "friends" list. "Readers" would be a much less loaded term. So much butthurt might be avoided.

Or maybe not.

But this sort of "OMG why are you even my friends if you aren't going to comment on my fics? That's what friends dooooo!" comes out of the mistaken notion that merely following someone's LJ for the occasional things that interest you (and not commenting on the bulk of things that don't), is somehow betraying the bond of Internet-friendship.

Yeah, working really hard on something only to have it go virtually ignored is shit, especially when you know there's an audience, and that they have seen your work and had the chance to form opinions of it. It hurts. I understand her frustration, on that score. But accusing the people who follow her LJ of being lousy, ungrateful, neglectful "friends"--uh, no.

YOUR FRIENDS LIST IS NOT YOUR FRIENDS. Sure, a few of them might be. But unless you're picky and do a lot of regular pruning, the rest are just casual readers, and you're just another blogger they follow.

If nobody else comes forward with caps or anything, I have complete ripped and hosted HTML files of pages one, three, and four of the comments, right up until two minutes before she deleted her journal, including her very last comment in which she said "No prob. I should have just deleted without warning. Oh well, easily fixed."

Hmmm....thanks for taking it a different way to the one I intended.

I was pissed that she had a 600+ readership and 30+ comments on a WIP and that wasn't enough for her. The majority of SGA writers, like me, are lucky to see 4-10 comments on a completed story! The implication being that if SHE is crap then we are all CRAP too so maybe we should all flounce off as well.

Personally, if I was going to flounce over the lack of comments then I'd have done it YEARS ago!

I tried to be nice and feel sorry for her when I first read about this on my flist, but it didn't work. The more I thought about it, the more I just resented her for being a comment whore and secretly wanting to be a BNF despite saying she doesn't want to be a BNF. THAT MAKES NO SENSE. If you want people to respect your writing, and you say you write for other people, not yourself, then you obviously want comments and want to be well known and want people to LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT.

You know what? I just think she's a selfish jerk throwing a temper tantrum. Good riddance.

You know, I have seen many things travel from fanficrants to here. This is the first time I have ever hoped to see something from fandom_wank travel in the opposite direction. It's like, reverse osmosis. Or something.
But man, pregnant-zilla. I've had to live with that before, and unfortunately people do really stupid things while they're pregnant. Like this. Or get married.

this meltdown has been a long time coming. last August, she caught my attention when she complained that her readership had dropped...on a story that had 7 pages of comments. SEVEN PAGES.

I can only imagine how devastating a mere 40 comments must have been.

I am of two minds on this.

On one hand, she was on my friends list, and I did enjoy her fics.

But on the other: seriously what? Only 30 comments on your last chapter? Boo fucking hoo. The first time I got 10 comments on one of my stories (for the whole story) I did the Snoopy Dance around my desk.

I get that the only "pay" fan fiction writers get is in feedback by readers, but no one owes us anything. If someone comments great, but if they don't; well for me working on my writing, getting something right, improving my skills is it's own reward.

To me (and I hope I'm wrong) it sounds like being a popular writer went to her head and made her feel entitled to mass adoration by the fans. If people leave feedback because they are made to feel they have to or the author will flounce off into the sunset, what worth does that feedback have? The only feedback worth receiving is that which is completely honest, even if it's telling you that your writing is sub par.

I'll say one thing: comments are addictive. I have a fairly big readership for my fanfic--just the facts--and if I post a story that gets fewer comments than the last, it doesn't matter how many comments it got; I'll still wonder why it didn't get as many. Also, I get kind of sore at FFN readers who favorite stories of mine--sometimes en masse--and NEVER COMMENT! But that's FFN for you. Hence why I don't post there anymore.

Flouncing, however, is never the answer. Nor is bitching at your readership. Once you post something, it's out there, and you have no control over how it's received. Get used to it or get gone.

*sigh*

You know, I'd try to explain it again, but what would be the point?

I know, right? You'll still come off looking entitled and whiny!

The one time I got my sadface on publicly because of lack of comments, I felt like a dick immediately after. I reread that story last night and it sucked, trufax. Sometimes your writing sucks, even if usually you're not awful. Sometimes you just suck. And yet other times the number of comments has absolutely no correlation to the quality of the writing.

I consider myself lucky if I get five comments on the fic I write. FIVE. You don't see me whining about it (except maybe just a little bit here *whimpers*)

Holy shit I have a baby shower and one of the authors I love went batshit? fdsakfdjsalfdsa

Lemme guess, the fic is all gone? Gah. I liked her stuff. I recced it. I offered to podfic it. Excuse me if I AM HAVING A BABY and didn't feel like reading angst and death and sadness the week before my shower. Holy fucking HELL. This is the same person who got angry because people posted partisan stuff on their own journals that she had friended and ended up taking an extended vacation from LJ during the election so she wouldn't feel compelled to defriend everyone just for expressing themselves on their own journals. She came back for what, THREE DAYS? Sorry that I didn't stop my busy life to genuflect.

I really fucking hate it when people decide to take their toys and go home when someone doesn't appreciate one of them. God forbid I rec a ton of your good stories and write detailed reviews that are now gone but I don't drop everything the instant you reappear on the radar.

Excuse me, apparently this is srs bsns for me today, but I really liked their writing (admittedly, the lighter aspects of it) and I did interact with them and now things I love to reread are gone just because they don't remember the way they GOT 600 people to friend them in the first place. Christ.
