In house, that's what they call WP:RS. The attitude exists because Wikipedia as an institution has exactly enough self-awareness to realise that, at any moment, half (to be generous) of the entries in any Wiki have fatal errors.
I started reading the backstage bits of Wikipedia a while ago, thinking to write up an OTF wank about one small corner of a larger issue: the wank has no boundaries. Wikipedia is made of wank and it's shot full of mechanisms to keep the wank from taking over the whole "encyclopedia" thing they've got going, one of which could have been designed for Laura Hale and others with a website to promote.
