The Russet Doom Saga, Part VI
Guess what today is, you guys! That's right! It's

RUSSET DOOMSDAY!
Except NOT! A quick review:
May 11, 2009
I'd like to share that today I leaked the opening scene of Russet Noon to my dear friend Grace from Foforks. It's the opening scene of Chapter 1, which is entitled "Fireworks in La Push." I dedicate this scene first and foremost to my dear friends in Brazil who have supported me from the start. Their hopes and dreams drive me forward every step of the way. Grace is not authorized to leak the English version, only the one in Portuguese, which she will be translating out of the kindness of her heart. I am honored to let the opening scene of Russet Noon premiere in Brazil exclusively.

I will release the English version exclusively on my website this June 1, 2009.
Since this, Lady Sybzilla's been using the Fan History Wiki instead of press releases instead of just getting herself a gosh darn blog already.
May 29, 2009: Update About Cover Art
After having received several bids on the cover art project for Russet Noon, I have determined that Charli Siebert is not the artist meant for the project. The reason for my decision is that other companies are offering me significantly lower prices than the estimate Charli gave me. I would have really liked to work with her, but Russet Noon is a not-for-profit venture, so any expenses involved in its publication will be covered by my publishing company, AV Paranormal. I have yet to award the project to one of the bidders, since I am still comparing portfolios and estimates, but I will announce it on the Russet Noon website as soon as I've reached my final decision.
I'd wonder how Fan History feels now about giving Sybsy a soapbox for crazy, but it looks like Laura Hale is taking cues from Lady Sybilla, what with press releases and all.

Since the russet_noon twitterer's been quiet since May 19th, Sybsy got a little feisty... ten days later:
# @russet_noon what's the matter, ran out of jokes already?6:22 PM May 29th from web
Oooh, Frank N. Stein, ya burnt. Yet another victim of Sybilla's famously zippy wit.

The Potato Moon Wikipedia page was nominated for deletion, but after a debate, it was decided that it should merge with the Peter David article. Lady Sybilla got the last word in, voting in favor of the merge.
Merge I, too, agree that it should go under Peter David's main article, especially because it marks his return to Google, and also because it is related to the Twilight Saga, another notable work.Ladysybilla (talk) 17:18, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Additionally, Sybilla's still using an image cribbed from artist Stephanie Lostimolo, who created the talisman in 1999 for a Michael Whelan Fan Art Contest (for which she got an honorable mention - scroll down and look in the right column). You can't find the talisman image on the current incarnation of her site, but she has reused it since (worn by a character). Lady Sybilla is using this image as the new cover of Russet Noon on her website and in press releases, despite not knowing the image's origin (and therefore neither crediting Lostimolo, nor obtaining permission to use it).

She's also using fan art by inundefined at deviantART as a Midnight Sun cover in the bottom right corner of russet-noon.com. I do not know whether or not she asked for permission to use this image, but given her track record of taking first and asking later (if ever, since she doesn't like to do her own homework), I wouldn't be surprised if inundefined had no idea about any of this whatsoever.

And would you look at the calendar? It's... June 2nd. There have been no posts tagged "lady sybilla" or "russet noon" at Foforks since the interview came out April 5th... what happened to the exclusive Brazilian premeire of Russet Noon chapter one? Well, apparently June 1st didn't quite work out, for whatever reason. Naturally, it's time for a new press release (already Caito-cloned here):
Russet Noon: Chapter 1 Will Be Released in English, Portuguese and Spanish

AV Paranormal will be releasing the first chapter of the novel Russet Noon in three different languages: English, Portuguese and Spanish. Chapter 1 is out this Tuesday, June 2 at midnight (Pacific) at russet-noon.com and foforks.com.br/
My personal favorite tidbits:
AV Paranormal is seriously considering the possibility of delaying the publication of the book until November to coincide with the theater release of the movie sequel to Twilight, New Moon.
and
AV Paranormal is also planning a contest for readers to win free tickets to see the movie sequel to Twilight, New Moon.
Because if there's anything this fanfic needs, it's more publicity stunts. More ETAs to come, I'm sure: the sharks, eager as ever to chomp, are just waiting for Sybsy to dip her toes in the pool fall into the deep end.

ETA
: Chapter 1 is out. I have no idea whether the prose is as bad as the formatting, but at the end of 21 pages (um, book pages, not web pages), there is this little note:
Would you like to express your opinion about this chapter? AV Paranormal is very interested in receiving your feedback and suggestions. We welcome any type of criticism, either positive or negative. Email us your reactions and we will publish them here. Please be advised that hate emails with insults will not be published. There are diplomatic and polite ways to express your opinion, even if it's negative, so please keep your emails civilized.
Well, if you don't have anything nice to say, come and sit by me.

ETA: Sybsy supposedly has a PR guy now, whom she thanks by name on Twitter and is also listed as a contact at this version of the last press release.

ETA
: This is Lady Sybilla's new favorite thing. Basically some dude on the internet thinks copyright is bunk. Too bad exhorting others to relinquish copyright doesn't actually change copyright laws. She probably found it by googling herself, because someone named Sheila brings up Russet Noon in the comments.

Oh, but if it means that she's relinquishing her own copyright, that means you can probably take Russet Noon and repost it anywhere, like your own journal or lol_meme or GAFF or wherever. You wouldn't even have to stick a spork in it. You could also probably save it all in one file and make it available for download. (I'm not saying you should, I'm just saying you could, and she couldn't make a copyright claim to anyone's host server.) Not that her copyright was ever really hers to begin with, but yeah.

There is also a Russet Noon blog with a huge banner made from Stephanie Lostimolo's work. Theft begets theft!

Meanwhile, Gilloughly at Absolute Write has a huge hate-on for Sybsy, to the point where I think he's showing up in my journal to tattletale. (If that's not Gilloughly, it's someone who seems to copy and paste off his forum posts, because it sounds just like him.)

There is also now a Russet Noon MST on twitter.

Speaking of Twitter, Sybsy's been pretty funny lately:
#The sharks at absolutewrite are desperately trying to shut me down, but there's always fanfiction.net if they succeed

#they wrote to Little, Brown and got ignored, so now they're trying to take matters into their own hands

#it's humbling to see how my work inspires such a strong passion in people

#hate and love are just opposite poles of the same emotion

#fame and infamy are, indeed, one and the same</i></i>
Bet Gilloughly would like to hit her with that pole, yo.

Does anyone actually care about Russet Noon except for f_w? I mean, really, I didn't even know what Fan History was before these shenanigans.

Correction of statement made on April 24 press release: Peter David is not a "right-wing conservative." This statement was based on an inaccurate assumption and has been removed. We apologize for the misunderstanding.

something about this phrasing is making me giggle madly but I can't put my finger on why.

1. YAY more delicious potato wank. Thank you, Caito!

2. and also because it is related to the Twilight Saga, another notable work. The arrogance here is staggering, if she's referring, as I think she is, to Russet Noon as the other notable work.

3. All this talk of leaking makes me think of some horrible, drippy disease. Ick.

Am I the only one thinking she's probably floating around stock sites - the one where you can get twenty cent images? I can't see any artists jumping for this project. Also, she's still referring to AV Paranormal as her "publishing company" and implying that it's not from her own wallet? I though she'd have moved past that.

Also, yay, the cockles of my heart were warmed to see the sparkle text once again on parade.

So when exactly is this fanfic coming out? I mean, she said she's releasing the first chapter tomorrow, but the translation of the opening was supposedly ready on the 11th of May. That's three weeks she took to do... well, pretty much nothing.

If you're gonna be a hack, you gotta spend less time churning out "press releases" (what press?) and more time actually churning out schlock.
