Oh, here we go again.
Some unscrupulous individuals start selling other peoples' artwork on T-shirts. Artists are, rightfully, pissed.

People look at DeviantArt's ToS and see the same poorly worded clause that caused such humongous kerfluffles with Geocities and CafePress in days past. Someone makes a huge post about it without doing her homework.

More wank ensues.

And then some DA personage gets into it, taking it upon himself to reply to every post in the fray, claims that offering clarifications of the Legalese in the ToS to prevent drama like this would defeat the purpose of the ToS (which, sadly, I must admit to bitchslapping him on), bitches because someone doesn't use a DeviantArt-approved abbreviation for DeviantArt, and then he bitches because he's tired of saying the same thing over and over.

Not that people on the other side of the wank are all sweetness and light...

And finally, the original poster disables comments on the original post, screams at everyone to leave her alone, and we find out that this whole kerfluffle was over a 15-year-old girl's fuckup.

I was wondering when this was going to show up on F_W. It's perfect. From t-shirts to misinterpreting TOSes and back to t-shirts again, and in the middle DA gets blamed, however temporarily, for a mistake made by a 15-year-old girl. It's got everything!

Still, though. People were calling Hyz's house? How were they getting her phone number?

The store that started it is definetely suck, though. That situation's immediate reaction I can understand, 'cause that is some serious crap going there. But all the random DeviantArt stuff... omgwtfbbq?

Wow. Just... wow. I mean. Wow. While I definitely can see the whole big issue--I mean, the store was definitely in the wrong--the arteests are pretty funny when they're all up in arms even after the issue is resolved.

See, this is why you never post original artwork on the net. Yup. Fanart is A-OK! ::is shot!:: /wank

Eh, the people at DeviantArt are homophobic, assinine fucks anyway, and I think they deserve all the drama they get thrown at them, just because I'm bitter and angry and, uh, homosexual that way.

But I do my little, insignificant part by not supporting them with my art, or looking at any art hosted on their site.

Does this make me politiwanky? :P

This actually happened a couple of months back, but one of the DA Dev. Ar. mods is openly homophobic, and has made ignorant statements concerning, er, people of differing preferences before.

That, and said mod has a habit of removing any "Shounen Ai"/"Yaoi" and/or even softcore homoerotic artwork without warning, whereas they'll let het stuff five times more graphic through without a problem.

Not to mention that at least two people I know have had their galleries revoked simply because they had some homoerotic works in them.

Now, I fully understand that it's their site and they can do anything they want with it. I'm not against limiting personal freedoms or whatever, and they pay for it.

But to me, that's just so damn wanky. I just don't support DA, because of it, period.

Not that DA and DA politics aren't pretty wanky to begin with. Or that there isn't a lot of crappy, frightening artwork there, too. *coughcough*

Whoa, really? I haven't seen an occurence of this yet (I'm not doubting you), I wonder if said admin has just choked the reins cause there's so much of it on the site now (at least from the yaoi pretty boy fangirlism side)? Although I really don't surf around the page, as it takes hours upon hours to load with all the icky graphics, and I only know a very small circle of people there.

However, DA's admins are fairly wanky people, as holier-than-thou Jark so lovingly demonstrated, so in all honesty, your beef doesn't surprise me a single bit.

If they have an issue against a certain type of artwork (for instance, they say 'no pr0n' on the page, although they do make an acceptance for tasteful nudity, which spurred some huge amount of wank on what is 'tasteful' and what isn't), they need to list it in their TOS. That would be the non-wanky thing, so I'm in agreement with you.

As for me, I use DA to lavishly spill my name around cause arteests love acknowledgement of their superiority genius work. I'm not above using evil for the works of evil good.

I can't be one to judge artwork, but it's like ff.net. You get your good with your bad. Art's relative though, in the case that people see differently, which is why it is/can be so damned wanky. For instance, I love naive/primitive art, versus your schooled art.

When I was a boy, I wanted to be a comic-book artist.

Then I realized that gay people don't become comic-book artists.

Every once in a while, I feel like writing a big long angry rant about how that field is still unfriendly to women and gays, but then I keep thinking it'd end up being really wanky.

You know what's funny, is that recently I tried to remove my gallery, and the option's not there. You have to go through methodically and delete everyfuckingthing, and it's a pain.

I got soured on that place when they started deleting my wallpapers.

oo; I've never had a problem at DA, because I am quiet and never mingle much and nobody seems to love my stuff enough to get it featured and CRY, but anyways, now I feel like I should be having a hard time too. X3;;;;

Doesn't surprise me that the admins are absolute fucking idiots, though.
