♫Unforgatablllllle, in every way...♫
Taken from the pages of wank_report...

Num8 (now KurwaSuka) was a wolf furry who spent his days happily living in France, running the IRC channel #FursuitTV, making appearances on furry puppet shows, and just generally being known far and wide as an all-around nice guy. Until one day, when he was tragically diagnosed with brain cancer. Metastatic brain cancer.

Because he wanted to spend his last days with the friends he held so dear, a collection was taken up in his name to send him on a weeklong trip to the States, during which he would pay a visit to various furry gathering hubs (and also Disney World). Reports of the exact amount that was raised vary somewhat, but according to Pawpet, the community that was collecting on his behalf, around $2000 was donated to the cause.

But alas, the story was not to come to a happy end. Suspicions about the veracity of Num8’s claims arose in the months afterwards, as no updates on Num8’s status appeared and also maybe because he had supposedly had two weeks left to live. In the midst of mounting evidence that the claims of cancer had been a hoax, Num8 finally made a post to his Livejournal, confirming it was all a lie, that he had in fact swindled unsuspecting people out of thousands of dollars, and that he was stricken, stricken I tell you, with guilt. His profile is also kind of... beyond words, there.

Reactions to the news range from stunned disbelief to vitriolic, frothing denunciation to open-armed, loving forgiveness. Because conning furries into paying for your vacation is kind of like that movie "Gandhi".

The Pawpet community, disillusioned and dismayed, promises that if Num8 ever returns even a portion of the money, it will be distributed amongst those who made the donations. The operative word there being "if".

Meanwhile, Num8 is simply beside himself in his self-flagellation, only standing up to defend himself when someone asks him exactly how he intends to pay back his victims.

Why can’t these people just believe him? What part of "ps: yes refund will be done." don’t they understand? The world may never know.

And why did he do it? What reason could he have to cruelly toss aside the loving trust of friends and fellow furries in favor of a trip to a handful of theme parks? Apparently, he was contemplating suicide at the time (full post here, along with a baffling comment involving the foreign legion), and the only natural course of action was faking a fatal disease for sympathy. Also, "Codydawg and Keenora invited me over, and thought why not as I still had money".

But Num8 also wants you all to know that:
"I DO NOT ASK FOR FORGIVENESS IT'S UNFORGATABLE. I'm aware of it. I failed you all."

"I lied enough, think what you want, but this is the truth.
I was thinking "How can I lie about all this,.. bleh anyway I'm going to die"."

"killing myself is not planned by now, I've a debt to repay, and after I dunno. But I'll be seeing a psy during that time.
I don't have much to say."

And to those who can not open their hearts to forgiveness, those would wish harm on him (say, the kind of harm that would involve cement and a crowbar), Num8 helpfully gives directions to his current address:

"I’m living next to the sea".

As soon as I read the "unforgatable" I pictured Sinatra singing the whole sentence.

You see the big reason I haven't been in and around the fandom for the last ten years is that although I didn't know it I was dying of HIV. To make a long story short when I got out of my coma and recovered a bit I threw myself into hell. I spent the next two years living in an insulated room in a barn, winters down to -40, no running water (well, run to the pump), no sanitation, and only a microwave to cook with. Still disabled and with little help I built this space with the intention of throwing it open as I have.

. . . I can't tell if he's being sarcastic or not. The story itself makes me think yes; but the tone of the rest of the comment makes me think no.

Apparently the furry fandom is confusing glioblastoma with Romantic Plot Tumor (warning, link goes to TV Tropes) or what we called in the olden days "Movie Disease" where you're strong and able to move around right up to the end.

This is not the case. I can't tell you how much I envy people who don't know that from life-experience.

Honestly, I found myself a bit surprised at how many people were supportive of him getting help and constantly found myself pausing every time I saw, "It's not actually unforgivable." No, I suppose it isn't, but... that did seem like a pretty (read: understatement) big betrayal of trust, especially when it seems like an entire community went out of their way to help him. I mean, good for so many people to have compassion, yet something about it seems a little eerie to me.

On the other hand, the only thing I could think of every time I saw 'foreign legion' was the Burning Legion, and I kept thinking to myself, "Damn, that guy's got it bad if Kael'thas is hunting him down."

It always blows my mind that so many people are always so willing to still feel sorry for someone after they do things like that. I honestly can't think of a single situation where, after I discover my friend or someone I like has lied to me and many others about dying (which is kind of a big deal!) just to scam sympathy and cash out of us, I could just go "Oh, they learned their lesson, now they've become the REAL victim here since everyone's being so mean to them!" There's something vaguely pathetic about it to me. How low does your self-esteem have to be to make you still want to impress and suck up to someone after they pulled a stunt like that on you? How much more important is one self-absorbed person's need for attention than the many innocent mourners who were just trying to help a sick friend? I almost get a "Hey, now that everyone hates this popular person except me, the popular person'll realize I'm nice and want to be my friend!" vibe there.

And then it ALWAYS goes like this: But they admitted they made a mistake (even though it was only because they were caught, or about to be caught)! But they're still the person they've always been (even though it turns out they've spent months on an elaborate scheme and used your affection for them to extort money and pity, and thus aren't actually who they pretended to be)! But forgiveness is the right thing to do (even though they acted like everyone who dared suspect they were lying is a heartless monster, and sicced their fans on them)!

They treat it like it's something someone could just slip up on and do by accident once, in a brief lapse of judgement, even though that person seems to have spent considerable amounts of time inventing a plan to fake their own death, and continuously lying to everyone and using their grief to their advantage. It's not like this was something that took ten seconds to do, like maybe they weren't thinking clearly for one small moment. They repeatedly give updates on their tragic illnesses in great detail, personally thanking each person who wishes them the best and doing everything they can to milk every bit of sweet, sweet affection (and cash!) that they're conning out of them. They're pretty clearly relishing every second of it, or they wouldn't have had the gall to go through with it in the first place. Everyone who's so worried and upset about them is just a quick fix of adoration and cash to them.

The best part is, the guy's STILL making a big show out of it, acting teary-eyed and self-deprecating and in need of love from true believers, with an occasional dash of passive aggression to the people who dare to be cruel to them in this time of need. He may as well wear a flashing sign on his head that says "I AM ALWAYS USING YOU ALL FOR ATTENTION".

Again, it's all INCREDIBLY pathetic to me.

There's a gal over on the boards on Syfy.com (specifically, the Eureka board) pulling pretty much this same stuff right now. She's 'dying'. (Of what is never specified, but the symptoms she describes belong to no terminal illness I've ever heard of in 24 years of nursing.) She might not live to see the premiere on July 10th. Wait, her doctor gave her a shot and she lived after all! Her computer is dying and she might not be able to post anymore, and alas, she is poor. She has had a rough, hard life and would like a fantastic vacation before she dies. And on. And on. And on.

And on. And on.

No one seems to be taking the huge, anvil-sized 'send me money and buy me a new computer' hints, which is a good thing at least.

I'm just waiting for the pseudo-death....

From this post:
I can see people getting upset about the money they donated getting him over here. I just thought I'd make my little post about it. I initially volunteered to host him while he visited Chicago. Well, my part was basically driving him around, but we stayed over at Perro and Wolphy's place for two nights instead. So in essence I probably donated $20 in gas.

I fucked him so I guess I got my money's worth :D.
And from the comments:
I have an important message for num8, but I don't know how else to get it to him as I've lost contact.

Maxi, shortly before your trip to the states, I was diagnosed as being HIV+. I hadn't really come to terms with it yet, and when we hit it off during your visit, I didn't think it was important that I told you, given the circumstances. We didn't use protection, and I'm really concerned now that I've found out your situation wasn't as you said it was. Please, make sure you get tested for yourself and before you become active with anyone again. I'm really so sorry for this, I never thought it could come to this, I can't sleep at night knowing that I might have done this to you. I know you know who this is, but I want to keep myself anonymous to protect myself. Again, I'm so sorry.

While I think this guy is both dumb (for utterly trashing his good reputation) and a scum (for swindling his friends), I also think there was quite a bit of the stupid going around.

What person would believe someone with brain cancer and only weeks to live is going to want to go on a multi-state party to see a bunch of people from the internet? Who would think they are even capable of doing such a thing? Have these people never seen a hospice patient before? Do they honestly think you chug along perfectly normally, growing ever more faye and beautiful, until you keel over?

I was reading this wank wondering why there were no comments about someone named "juillet" who keeps posting over and over.... Yeah, four years of HS French but I didn't have class in July!

I am suffering the slings and arrows of stoopidity and crappy monitor syndrome. Please send cash before I post again.
