All right, SOMEONE needs to post this
This is an excruciatingly slow week at work and I am flat out amazed that someone else hasn't posted this yet. I was going to wait for someone else to take it but right now I need something to do and this is some spectacular wank. I first got it from Cleo's twitter, but it's a hell of a lot bigger now.

Rachel Lefevre played Victoria in the Twilight movie. She was generally regarded as acceptable in her acting and well-liked as a person.

Then Summit suddenly announces that they've recast the role. Why? Because at some point Rachel signed up for a ten-day shooting gig that overlapped with the Eclipse shooting schedule.

Shit hits the fan at record speed. Here we have Rachel's response. It's basically "What the FUCK?!" but in very polite terms. It was followed very recently by Summit's response to her, which is basically "We totally didn't just dump the bitch over ten days in some other film. Oh, wait, yes we did."

We also have a pithy little article from eonline laying out the possible (rather nasty) logic behind the move.

Oh, and lion_lamb wanks away. Interestingly, there's a lot of "FUCK YOU SUMMIT" but some folks taking the studio's side, a bit of tinhatting and ample fapping. I didn't venture all the way through the thousand comments, but I'm quite sure there's more.

I'm sure there is much more coverage and much more wank, people should feel free to draw it to my attention. Also, there will probably be plenty more wank to come. Thanks to [info]cleolinda for dropping most of these links on her twitter.

ETA 1: Courtesy of Cleo's twitter again: Summit responds to the fan reaction. Ohh, there are going to be good times.

ETA 2: GAME ON! This update brought to you by [info]eilisliana

Contrary to Ms. Lefevre’s statement, it is simply untrue that the Studio dismissed her over a ten day overlap. It is not about a ten day overlap, but instead about the fact that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker and most importantly the story.

AHAHAHAAHAH oh god it hurts yes tell me more about your artistic vision ♥

First Catherine Hardwicke was fired for being "hysterical and ineffectual," and now Summit's all *~SHE JUST WASN'T PASSIONATE ENOUGH~*?

Fail, Summit.

(And you know KStew is just like, "WHY COULDN'T IT HAVE BEEN ME? I COULD NOT BE ANY LESS PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS MOVIE IF I TRIED.")

Then she snagged a role in Barney's Version,

OH PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T LET THIS FAIL. It also has Dustin Hoffman and Minne Driver listed in the cast, so it should be okay, but I still worry. That book was awesome.

There were also riots in the tweets with the #BringBackRachelle tag, although someone was saying that the trending topic DISAPPEARED MYSTERIOUSLY (or... people just stopped using it, IDK).

The thing about the Summit response is that the normal, classy phrasing would have been like, "We regret having to let Rachelle go, but there was, in fact, an irreconcilable scheduling conflict and, due to the number of actors' schedules we have to accomodate, we can't wait." In other words, they would address neither their own assiness nor what they considered to be hers and just let it go. Instead, it's all like, "WAHHHH SHE DID THIS AND THIS AND THIS AND YOU SHOULD TOTALLY FEEL SORRY FOR US BECAUSE SHE MADE US LOOK BAAAAAAAAD."

Also, they keep releasing statements in the dead of night--well, dead of evening in LA, I guess--which I have really never seen another studio do before. Seriously, Nikki Finke just happened to break it at like 8 pm their time (10 pm mine, and I had nearly gone to bed), and about half an hour later the actual press release came out. And then their statement last night, whereas Rachelle's was up by late afternoon.

According to Perez Hilton (shut up, I'm shallow OK?) Rachel L is being replaced because after the success of Twilight they'd have to up her salary. Also her film would mean she was out of filming for all of ten days.
Can't quite see how that works - the replacement, Bryce Dallas Howard surely is more expensive as people actually know who she is...
Screw it, I'm just waiting for RPatz to start chowing down on Kstew's pretend uterus. The fanfiction alone is going to make the whole car crash of a series worthwhile.

1. I'm reading Summit's reponse, and all I can hear is "Woohoo, this saves us making up an excuse for hiring Bryce Dallas Howard."
OTOH

2. So she knew all the drama and still she publicly denied the existance of RobSten? She was made an example of, people. You guys are being fed an illusion to boost ticket sales. Askley, Christian, Peter and Billy have all sat on the fence, trying to keep the mystery going. There is no RobSten. She was fired for not deceiving the masses.
Yeah! That totally learned her to deny RobSten!

3. Name mashing real people is incredibly creepy.

We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production.

So in other words, she was fired because the studio doubted her commitment to Sparkle Motion?

No more posts online by RL or Summit because lawyers have been called!

So Rachel Lefevre found out about it from the press release? Really classy there, Summit.

But don't expect them to go public with too much anti-Summit talk. As my gossiping cohorts over at The Awful Truth point out, Lefevre's dismissal sends a very strong message—or warning—not to mess with the studio.
Quick Rob and Kristen, I think I've found your means of escape.

...I can't get over the fact that Bryce Dallas Howard is going to be in a Twilight movie. I had such high hopes for her after the performance she gave in The Village. :(

So, is there an official requirement that to blog for E!, your chin has to be totally awesome? Because I'm noticing a trend.

http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/the_awful_truth/b136229_When_Twilight_Fans_Take_It_Way_Too_Far.html

And now even semi-professional, nearly-newslike organizations are taking note of Twilight fan nuttery. I would have checked to see if anyone started swearing at the blogger in the comments, but E!'s five million EMBEDs make it rather difficult.

I check the national news every day just to see what's going on, which province has lit on fire, etc. But yesterday, I was appalled to find out that this was one of the top stories of the day. Seriously, if it had been a newscast, it would have been like, "Our top stories tonight: a 17-year-old girl is sentenced to life in prison for murder, BUT FIRST LOL TWILIGHT!!"

Man, real life sucks. I'm just going to sit in my corner over here and read my sweet, sweet Donna/ Master fanfics.

Is this sort of an anti-floune on the part of the studio? Instead of "I'm taking my toys and going home!" it reads more like "my mom says you have to go home now!"
