This wanklet was brought to you by the letters T & A...
Caution: There are some NSFW links in the forums.

So!
A while ago on the ToughPigs forum, there was discussion about American Apparel making Sesame Street shirts.

Most of the comments were "...huh..."

One such shirt was, as I call it, Big Metro Bird. Then most of the comments became "...ew." followed by a rousing chorus of "hipster douches!"

One poster asks how this is any worse than this Miss Piggy center-fold. (Yes, you read that right.)

So, ToughPigs bloggers look around while the forum talks about the merits of Sex Sells and how America just have to get over Naked Boobies. Finally ToughPigs comes across an ad featuring a girl with her snootchie hanging out, while wearing a Sesame Street T-shirt. They blog, with some scathing words to American Apparel.

And then, it turns out Sesame Street, in fact, did NOT agree to do this team up with AA, even though the spokespeople for AA insisted that they did...

Comments are generally amusing and shocked (Shocked!) and of the "My childhood!" variety.

Oh no, Sesame Street, no!

Someone needs to pay more attention to their sub-licenses. So much more attention.

Given that this is American Apparel we're talking about, I am so not shocked at this revelation.

I can't help but picture the American Apparel photoshoot in someone's creepy woodpaneled basement with lots of pantsless models wearing nothing but Sesame Street shirts and trying to strategically place their stock portfolios and jewelry to hide their goodies.

Big Bird obviously doesn't look too closely at the names on the royalty checks — which then granted a sub-license to American Apparel.

Come on, give the guy a break, he's only six you know.

This isn't the first time that Sesame Street characters have ended up on kind of inappropriate adult clothes. Top Shop in the UK had some Sesame Street knickers for a while. The characters would be on the front, and a slogan on the back. The had at least 3 characters: Cookie Monster ("Cookies!"), Big Bird ("Natural Blonde") and Elmo (didn't look, don't care, Elmo's not part of my childhood). I bought the Cookie Monster ones, as they were kind of cute, but the Big Bird ones rubbed me the wrong way, mainly due to the slogan.

Maybe I'm just (as usual) out of touch with current fashion trends. But if I'm going to spend money on a character shirt, I want one that doesn't look like someone heat-transferred a blank coloring book page on to it. Is this the new "thing"?

Next up for AA? The Peanuts characters! Starting with Schroder and his strategically placed piano. Oy vey...
