X-Factor? How about WTF-Factor!
For those who are wondering, the X-Factor is like American Idol, only in Britain.

Every Sunday is the sing-offs between the two acts with the lowest votes, and this Sunday's sing-off has caused much wank! But this wank has been brewing for a while.

Introducing the Jedward twins, or more precisely John and Edward, who have infected a good chunk of Britain with a bad case of Train Wreck Syndrome.

In the beginning, there was some hate due to their antics at bootcamp. Then there were accusations of Louis only putting them through because they are Irish. Simon Cowell expressed on numerous occasions that he thought they were ridiculous, that they shouldn't have been put through and that they are awful.

But the weeks went by and they gained a bit of a cult following, but they also gained some hate.

But this wank isn't only about them, it's about Simon Cowell. Last week after the sing off between Rachel and Lloyd he chose not to choose, and let it go to the public vote. Claiming that Lloyd's sore throat and the fact that Rachel had been in the bottom two before meant he couldn't choose. Rachel was sent home. Many were upset, claiming that sore throat or no, Lloyd can't sing as well as Rachel. Others were not upset.

But that is all just the set up, you see, last Sunday the sing off was between Lucie Jones and Jedward... I bet you can see where this is going!

Before the sing-off Simon claimed the decision would be based on the sing off alone, but in the end he once again went to the public vote, even though he has been slagging of the Twins forever. Lucie got sent home.

And so the games begin!

OfCom set to Investigate fixing!
Very underhand tactics from Simon.
"It was the public's fault not mine" - Cowell
Will Simon Cowell suffer a public backlash?
The Telegraph - X Factor is bottom barrel talent
Lucie went FAIR and SQUARE!!!
Lucie Should Not Have Been Booted Off X Factor!!
Danni Bitter
This morning Poll 85% think Simon was wrong..

Choice quotes from the last thread include-

Perhaps people who watch 'this morning' are slightly older and a bit out of touch so they don't really get John and Edward, I don't watch'this morning' because I find it a bit boring. That poll is not reflective of the general public.
...

For people with nothing better to do than watch tv.

Hardly representative of the wider GBP who watched and voted Lucie bottom when they had the chance.
...

News just in - the X Factor is also a TV show.
...

I don't think they are brainless. They probably don't mind hypocrisy and lying because they are hypocrites and liars themselves and don'twant to feel like there is anything wrong with that.
...

how very dare you question my honesty - i am proud to be a john & edward fan and i am neither a hypocrite or a liar

blackadder you are most rude - why question simons decision when he isthe man who makes millions each year from his decisions - the xfactoris about people who have exactly that "the xfactor" - bland lucie in my opinion certainly did not have a spark that lit my fires
...

Will he be as pragmatic if Danyl falls foul of say Dannii deliberately referring it to a public vote if he is up against the twins & then comes bottom?

It would be poetic justice

and i live in hope of that happneing this weekend!!
...

Well at least we can spell hypocrisy lol.
...

This isn't about John and Edward, that's besides the point, it's about Simon dishonesty and hypocrisy. If you don't see anything wrong in what Simon did then you obviously support those traits.

So if someone makes alot of money then their decisions become more and more unquestionable....... that's the sort of attitude that led to the financial crisis

"Bland Lucy in my opinion certainly did not have a spark that lit my fires"

Again you are missing the point, or choosing this to ignore it.

This is about

(a) Swearing to base his decision on the sing-off and then changing his mind when he saw it would have kicked J and E

(b) After all his negative comments to J and E over the weeks (and praise for Lucy) to suddenly change his mind when they get maximum media attention. Proves his decision was based on PR and money. He made a mockery of the show and it is unfair on the contestants who get voted out due to his precedent of PR and money over talent.
...

I don't agree with you that Simon was being hypocritical. He said he would base his decision on the sing off. I think he did exactly that.IMO J & E were better than Lucie in the sing off. As I already said, she chose to ignore the advice Simon had previously given herabout punching above her weight. She came across as extremely arrogant and deserved to go.
...

don't agree with you. I think he could easily have said J & E were better in the sing off because they were! Lucie comitted murder on a perfectly good song. John & Edward are no singers but when it counted, they came up trumps. Like I said - Lucie chose to ignore the advice Simon and others have previouisl given her - thought she was capable of singing a song like that which she clearly isn't - and paid the price!
...

My point was what does it say about someone who supports Simon when he goes back on his word and uses PR over talent (when he is always going on about it being about talent) to make his decisions? Especially with what is at stake.
This isn't about Lucy or John and Edward or who you support out of the two but about Simon and the integrity of the show. Fair enough you wanted J and E to stay, great for you but to say that Simon went about it the right way, well that does suggest you support hypocrisy and lyin to get what you want.
...

Oh well then if you feel so strongly about it perhaps you should stop watching lol. I'm not arguing about this any more. The only thing I will say is that you maybe shouldn't take things so literally. Simon saying he would prefer to see the twins perform again rather than Lucie is as good as saying they were better than her in the sing off. Simple as that.
...

Presumptious, not if you have been watching Simon since the start. Simon usually has no qualms giving an opinion, he is that kind of man. If he felt he could have plausably and with a straight face said he thought John and Edward were better he would have. He couldn't though and changed the criteria for judging.

Even Dermot looked uncomfortable when trying to say that Simon made the right decision, farce!
...

Simon himself, before the sing off, said he would base his decision on how the two acts performed in it. Afterwards he was now basing his decision on which act he would rather see again, in his own words, so if you can 't see something as blatantly obvious as that there is no point in arguing with you over it.

Also, the sing off is an acts last chance to save themselves so they are going to attempt a big song. Lucie was so gracious in defeat to J and E so how you can say she was arrogant and deserved to go is beyond me.
...

Dont you mean that the children that vote for the twins are either at nursery and infant school and as for the bored housewifes and house husbands, I watch both X factor, vote and watch this morning! Myself and others are the more mature and have some sense of what good singing is and can recognise talent when they see it! Not total rubbish that mostly teenyboppers and infants are voting for! I cannot believe that you put Uni! Do you really think that people with any real intelligence would vote for the twins. I think that they would be voting for the talent!

You might as well be saying that it is the bored housewifes and house husbands that voted for both Leona and Alexandra to win then. Because I voted for both and they won! Says it all really! There is no way that the twins will win this, it will lose all credability as a singing show! Louis is talking rubbish and Simon is no better when he did not give Lucie his vote to stay!

The only reason that Simon has kept the twins in. is to line is own pockets, he knows that the twins are controversial and it is bringing in the viewers! Simon is only in the business to make himself money, nothing more and nothing less and he has shown that he does not care at all about the acts!

And on and on, those are only some of the quotes from one of the threads on one of many forums.

But here, have some newspapers/media to finish things off...

I feel icky for linking to this paper.

I always thought the X-Factor was a Marvel comic books spin-off.

I admit I was kind of disappointed to see this wasn't about that. Comic books are always good for wank.

It's a karaoke show. With lots of flashing lights. Talent has nothing to do with any 'talent' contest that is by public vote.

The public have crap taste. That shouldn't be news.

The British public have crap taste, that might be news to some here, but the tendency is to go: 'Aaaawwwww!' in favour of the underdog, regardless of the assault on one's poor little eardrums.

In more cynical terms, Simon Cowell's actions are perfectly understandable and reasonable given that he owns show and concept and wants to keep people talking about it.
