Entry tags:ableism is retarded, crazy people, fandom failures, fandom: twilight, guess what we hate smeyer!, not very subtle at all, oh christ here we go again, please mommy make it stop, serious business, she's on a mission guys!, taking it too seriously

A diversion!
I know we've had a few HP posts lately, so of course it's time for something Twilight related. I saw this posted in a forum I lurk in and felt some of you might find it interesting, even if it is a few months old.

This doesn't involve Twilighters so much as the dark side of the fandom: TwilightSucks.com. Specifically, the Fangirl Encounters forum.

First, the backstory. You see, the OP, Nyxbel Hawthorne, has a cousin who is a bit obsessed with Twilight. So obsessed, in fact, that when she catches Nyx browsing TwilightSucks.com, she is moved to spit in Nyx's yogurt when Nyx is in the other room. Nyx finds out with the spoon in her mouth, spits out the yogurt, then takes to the TwilightSucks fora in order to have the members come up with ideas for revenge. Interestingly, in later iterations of the tale she says she threw up for "a half hour" after, though in the initial post she makes absolutely no mention of this. She posts two threads, one in which members vote on which plan of revenge she should implement, and one in which she announces the winner.

The plan they eventually agree on is this: she and a friend take a copy of her cousin's SIGNED Twilight book, rip out EVERY SINGLE PAGE, tape it onto her cousin's wall, paint praises of Edward all over the pages in red paint, and then... pretend to walk in, "discover" this mess, and warn her deeply religious family that Nyx's cousin is a follower of Cullenism and is so devoted is has made her crazy and thus she has subconsciously done this deed. The end result? Twilight is banned from the household, her cousin is sent to therapy and is now even starting to doubt her own sanity, and Nyx gets away scot-free and posts about this to the forum.

Reactions are... mixed, to say the least.

First of all, I recommend on checking the links because Nyx has posted pictures of the deed. It's only in the first post though, so no worries about trying to wade through all the mounds of pages that comprise this thread.

Let's have some highlights!

First, wraithsoldier517 comes out swinging and he is not down with Nyx's actions! (NOTE: You'll want to remember him and his arguments due to what happens later. Trust me on this.)
Congratulations, now every hateful thing Twihards have said about the anti-community at large is now totally one hundred percent freaking true. Pat yourself on the back.

A good lot of you need to step back from your computer, go look in a mirror, and tell me what you see? Yourself? Oh? I could’ve sworn I saw a bloody damn monster.

This may be my first post but I’m already turned off this site because of how ignorant some of you are getting – and what’s this? Biased staff members? Christ…

Hawthorne, I hope you are truly proud of yourself – you let one little comment your cousin made get to you and you scream poison when in fact it’s just as possible she was trying to play mind games with you.

Oh wait, that’s right, in our logic Twihards aren’t smart enough to be able to use that kind of brainpower…/sarcasm

Still what you did was unforgivable and for committing such an act I believe you should get in trouble alongside her. It’s obvious from how she was about the Twilight series that she had major insecurities, so an already mentally weak person has now been subjective to a Nazi-grade mother fucking scare tactic so if she ends up having to go to ‘mind raped anonymous’ or whatever the hell they call it now because of you, I really hope you grow a pair and fess up.

Nyx:
Anywho, everyone voted for that revenge tactic and I promised I'd do it...I really don't give a shit with the potential consequences of doing it. And I don't care if my cousin ever finds out. I won't forgive anyone for snooping through my shit without asking, stealing my art tools and fucking with my food using their spit for such stupid reasons like a bloody book series. I told her it was war and I was serious.

Call me a terrible person, I don't really care. *shrug*

Wraithsoldier:
Okay, you said I could call you a terrible person, so I will. You are by far the definition of why a lot of people dislike the minority along with those who helped and aided in your 'righteous' vengeance and I hope you and they learn the meaning of the word neutrality.

Justice without her blindfold is vengeance, and vengeance is unjust no matter the circumstances - as much as I hate to say it there are things you should and shouldn't let go, this being one of them, and equal punishment would have been fine. But you had to go the extra mile and try to make it seem cool didn't you?

There is some more back and forth between them but it's in the link so let's move on!

jessiefaye92:
I think you took it waaaaaaaaay too far. I mean, now you're just as bad-if not worse-than the Twitards. No, definatly worse than the Twitards. This is just appalling. Going to those extremes to get revenge? Destroying something that was precious to her, even if it was a Twishite book? And being so smug as to post it on a PUBLIC FORUM for the whole world to see? No, just no. Yes what she did to you was bad, but that doesn't mean you should have gone to the extremes that you did to exact revenge. To aire is human, to forgive divine.

At this point N comes in, and we have the first of many instances where people who object to Nyx's revenge are called "moralfags". I'm already bored with the term.

nevflinn's naivete is kind of adorable:
Forgive me, but the Anti community had given me the assumption that they were willing to be the morally upright crowd when push came to shove.

N reveals that (surprise, surprise) he's a member of /b/, and mentions /b/lockade as having gone down in history. It was so notorious this was the first time I'd ever heard of it. Apparently someone else agrees with me because N comes back and says "That's true, but how many people outside fans of rock'n'roll give a shit about Jimi Hendrix?"

I'll let janedoe's post speak for itself.
We are in a moraly dead society, people in the middle class (and in the red states) are hosting "tea parties" becasue they want representation without taxation, in India, kids are growing up in slums while in america kids don't even care about their school work (too an extent) people are voting against things that wont effect them, but negatively effect people that they irrationally hate (prop 8 anyone?) in japan women are basicly fierd from their jobs once they get married, in america women don't have equal rights with men, and most women aren't aware of this, Russia gave the leader of some other country an award for doing something similar to the holocaust on a smaller scale. Some guy liked me in kindergarden so decided to tease me along with his buddies (he transfered to a diffrent school 1 year later), it turned into full out bullying that lasted nine years of my life and made me the the school's main target of harrasment and turned me into an untrusting bitch with depression. life isn't fair, people aren't morally right. I for one am glad to see that someone's gettin' a little payback on someone who also did something in the moral wrong...

violaninja really gets the females of the species:
Guys and girls alike, especially at the teenage age can be extremely dramatic. I think girls are worse though. The whole my clothing is better than yours, and her make up makes her look like a whore (Yes, I've heard that before), and did you just look at my boyfriend? [insert z formation finger snap] It makes me laugh, some of the things people fight over. Just the other day two girls on my track team were fighting over whose track shoes were better. Does it really matter that much? You're going to run in them and get them dirty anyways. Why is it so important that your shoes cost $30 more than hers?

And now silentmoondemon comes in with a Very Good Point:
Jesus's principle of turning-the-other-cheek won't always lead to peace; it will sometimes lead to even more violence, especially on the victim's receiving end.

Take Pearl Harbor, for example. As most of us know, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was bombed by the Japanese in December 7, 1941 during World War II. Many people died, and many families lost their children, relatives, and friends.

What do you think would have happened if the United States did nothing in response at all? How do you think the Japanese would take it if we did nothing at all? They would take it as a sign that it is ok to continue attacking us.

Admit it. You knew it was coming. This isn't the only instance where Hiroshima is mentioned either.

link10020 thinks this was for the greater good! (THE GREATER GOOOOD!)
We can only change by being shown who we are. She would have grown on to have children with someone as evil and spiteful as her and they would neglect their children and maybe their children would end up like them, and the cycle would continue. by being shown the kind of person she is, she is given the opportunity to reflect and consider her actions and work on her flaws and become a better person. does this make the OP a hypocrite? yes it does. but unfortunately there is no other way to affect the situation. had the parents been informed she would still have been the same.

Alexis42:
Although it would've been moar awesome if you had taped your cousin's reaction but I guess it would've looked suspicious if you were holding a camcorder while your cousin's bawling her eyes out.
Because reading about the punishment isn't enough- we want REAL tears, dammit!

Everybody thinks Nyx is wrong. Not because it was overkill, but because she could EXPOSE US ALL:
In the end, what does this prove? Nyxbel Hawthorne fucked us over. She acted in a completely illogical way that I would take for an action commited by a rabid fan. To make matters worse, she bragged about the act on a public forum and openly provided pictures that could tie her to this. Once the Twihards catch wind of this (which I hope they don't), they have the small evidence they can use against all of us. So when we get bombarded with the news, and if Meyer comes out on this, I'll just be waiting. And I'll distance myself from it, watching from the sidelines and sighing.

valthek:
You know as much as i hate to do this, I'm going to have to call bullshit. This all seems just a little bit too neat Nyxbel Hawthorne. Reporting that you've done it then getting the pictures up a couple of days later because you lost your USB cable. Very convenient i feel.
[...]
*Edit* And i just realised something. What's with the time signature on those pics? You started your post on the 17th at 309AM. And you claimed you got you raised the alarm soon after you did it (you would have too to make it seem plausible) so i'm assuming you were busy that's why you posted at 3:09AM. Yet you didn't take the pictures untill 10:38PM Yesterday? That thing was sitting there all day was it?

With respect BOLLOCKS! Don't believe you.

Note: nothing ever comes of this. There's a mock trial, and then people just sort of forget about it.

And we have a threatened flounce!
kuranjuri:
As a Catholic, as a lover of book and as one who attempts to be reasonably kind even to those she thinks are a bit off, this is horrid.

I will, frankly, leave this site quite soon if something grand doesn't happen to change my mind. Though that may not even work, should this be fake, the number of people cheering such a despicable act against another member of your family is abhorrent.

She then proceeds to try to take on N, who claims that since mockery of others is the only source of joy in his life, then he damn well isn't going to stop!

There is some discussion as to whether or not spitting in yogurt is like poisoning it, whether it was morally okay for Nyx to do this since apparently her family pulls pranks on each other like this all time, and so on.

At this point, our good friend wraithsoldier comes back and posts what Nyx terms a "lynching" thread, with a poll titled Should we throw Nyxbel Hawthorne to the wolves? Essentially, he's pissed that she made anti-Twifans look bad and says that the forum (which, because they supported her, made the community look like the "chat speaking retarded cousins of /b/") should hand Nyx over to the Twifans for punishment, should they come. Or else CNN will be all over their asses.

Note: As far as I can tell no Twifan ever comes in and gives a shit about what happened. Neither does CNN, for that matter.

But wait! There's a twist in the second act! Because, you see, for once, the lurkers really did support Nyx in email. Wraithsoldier, though vocally very against Nyx's actions, apparently sent her a PM praising her bravery and her actions. He also wants to send her internet flowers. Sadly, after this twist nothing really happens. At around the same time anonypotomus decides to post a thread in Nyxbel's defense. And here things get weird, because suddenly all the threads peter into off-topic, we-support-our-community posts and it ends with what passes for the TwilightSucks equivalent of sunshine, rainbows, and hugs.

At least it has a happy ending?

EDIT, per [info]ara: Seems the thread has been archived in the "Bullshit Encounters" forum. Was it all a dream?

this kind of has the feeling of that other wank, about the "I dissed Twilight and OMG they threw acid in my face!" urban legend-y one. Where did that go? I know that one got shenaniganned.

(after searching a little) oh lookie here, for convenience: the anti-anti-Twilight damage toteboard:

http://twilightsucks.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fangirls&action=display&thread=5175

all of which points back to their own boards. Doubtful there's any outside, verifiable corroboration on any of these. Just a lot of "friend of a friend" stuff. As noted here:

Oh man, TwilightSucks. I got directed there and couldn't help but think 95% of their stories were made of SO CASH and Internet Tough Guy Syndrome.

Bets on her just doing this in an empty room or something and taking pictures. Otherwise, I'm betting her family thought she was pretty weird for standing around taking snapshots of the damage while her cousin was bawling. Or was this while she and her friend were spending copious amounts of time in someone else's room before *magically* discovering the damage?

Wow, that story sounds totally legit. How on earth could anyone doubt it?

I admit I'm on the skeptical side as whether this prank actually took place, too. It sounds like the sort of story that ends with "and then everybody on the bus stood up and clapped, and the mayor gave me the key to the city and a poem."

It was so notorious this was the first time I'd ever heard of it.

Same here.

I think it may be time for the anit-Twilight crowd to take a couple of chill pills. Seriously dudes, you're getting kinda scary. And fanatic. And, well, stupid.
