The Not So Triumphant Return of Victoria Bitter, aka thanfiction, part 2
Just some links that might have got lost in the faily shuffle of the last post:

[info]cesare finds thanfiction's icons interesting.

Guess the celebrity in thanfiction's "original" artwork.

FW's nemesis old friend FanHistory owner and Fandom's Public Enemy #1, Laura Hale joins the circus.

His son? A bird. (PROOF!)

Turimel updates her LJ with screencaps.

Famous last words. :( :( :(

ETA:

HOLD THE PHONE, IT JUST GOT BETTER! BLAME IT ON HIS EVIL TWIN SISTER!

Can this get any more ridiculous? I can't even imagine, but I'm sure VB will think of something.

ETA, again: Link courtesy of [info]sockpuppeteer and [info]luvscharlie: Witness Andrew Blake dressed up as Bill Weasley!

Reminder: please use male pronouns when referring to VB/thanfiction, and leave the transfail in the other post, thanks.

OMG Turimel let it go! I get it. This person stole your money, dicked you over, and is now maybe doing the same with others. You want them out of fandom, you're still mad, you hate the outlandish claims, and it's the focus of your life now.

What the hell am I saying, this wank is gold.

Turimel, I still have my doubts. I need fingerprint comparisons. DNA analysis. Bloodtypes. Weight charts. I won't be convinced until you write another book about this and turn it into a movie starring Nicholas Cage.

WHERE'S YOUR PROOF YOU WINGNUT?!

Whaaaa. "Let it go" is great advice when a con artist disappears from sight and you have to move on with your life. But people are potentially, right now, getting snookered into giving VB/Andrew Blake more money and help. All that proof Turimel's collected over the years could possibly stop someone else from being conned.

I'm lolling at the idea that after six years of Turimel harping on VB and OB, now is the moment when she should let it go. This is when the fixation is finally coming in handy!

--Unless you were just setting up your joke, in which case, disregard.

Just goin' for the joke. I do think turimel made her point a long time ago, and is now beating beating her wife this horse to death--which is fantastic, and I hope she keeps going.

Don't you have a fire somewhere you could be pouring petrol on? For everyone saying 'let it go' there's another one saying 'ogod I wish someone had warned me'. On that basis alone, [info]turimel should certainly keep going.

See, that's what I'm hoping for! I want to fan the flames of this wank, cause I'm here to point and laugh. I don't really care if a bunch of people get robbed, or if they use that cash to actually go to a con for fanfic. I guess I'm happy that someone's saying 'watch out,' but it wouldn't bother me if nobody said anything. I guess I have apathy and compassion for these people.

If it was just a warning, turimel wouldn't seem ridiculous to me. But she posted a grudgewank, deleted it/got the banhammer, and I love her for it. All these pictures, and a birth cirtificate? Wanky and great. She's bitter, so bitter--and it warms the cold stone that is my heart.

Maybe this'll help? http://wweek.com/story.php?story=5307

I'd probably be a little obsessed if a sociopath stuck me with a $10,000 debt, too.

Yeah... if someone betrayed my trust and my friendship, and scammed me of so much money and left me in debt ($10k it's ~2 million in my currency, of course my currency sucks but it's a lot of munnies), sure, I'd get on with my life sooner or later but I'd probably hold the grudge forever.

I think it doesn't really help that she is still saddled with their debts. It's a little hard to move on when you keep getting bills at the door because they used your personal information to purchase 300 bucks' worth of talk time, or used your name to rent an apartment and bailing without paying.

You had me at "VB". But there's something kinda funny about someone waiting and snarling for 6 years(?!), and then pouncing in with a whole bunch of transfaily, wanktastic overreacting.

I love this wank. I want more grainy photos of VB in pajamas, or eating a burger, or standing next to Bigfoot or Nessie. I want to hear that thanfiction's move to Sac-town is just because that's where the launching pad is for the moon shuttle, or that's where he'll meet up with the subterranean lizard rulers of the world after pseudiciding--and I want to hear it from another unsubstantiated, anonymous source.

It's the oddest thing -- for the last few years the most Turi has done, really, is report Amy/VB/Jorda/now-Andrew sightings, or put up a quick report of things that others have told her about, since she's kind of VB central.

It's weird to me to call that 'snarling.' I mean, if you're looking at the journal in one go, I suppose.

And this, kiddos, is why you never co-sign for a loan you're not prepared to pay off yourself. I mean, I feel bad for her, I understand why she's still angry, but...man. I hope I never fall for something like this.

You never buy (or, for that matter, sell) anything in fandom unless you're prepared to eat the money -- convention membership, fanzine, art commission, anything. Outright con jobs like this are thankfully uncommon, but as a group we often have more enthusiasm than common sense or planning ability, and even the most carefully planned and executed project can turn into a fiasco. A hotel double-books a convention and a huge wedding on the same weekend. Somebody's car fails, and the only resource that will enable them to fix the thing and continue making a living is the $300 in the zine printing account. A family member's illness or death makes finishing that illustration a lot less of a priority. An accounting hitch means that all the convention art show checks bounce.

It doesn't happen often, but it does happen, and it will happen to each of us at least once.

One of my fandom friends put a zine together and lost her partner-- who was getting them the printer-- just as the thing was ready to go to press. I fortunately knew a girl who knew a girl, as they say, but there was a lot of work put into something that almost didn't go into print. And then she had to pre-pay, of course, and hope that people would actually buy it.

It's a lot of gambling, even when it's not huge amounts of money.

Amen. I know where she got her undegrad (I went there) and it's a place full of very smart people who often lack the streetwise skill. I have these moments of 'why the fuck would you do that?' and then remember 'You went to HMC. Like the rest of us, you probably lack some fairly important life skills which is totally made up for by being forced to learn elementary forms of engineering, I tell you!'

Not all of us are real world social idiots, but a lot of us are.

*snorts* So, true. On the other hand, the cannon incident is inspired -- and did I ever tell you about the time South built one, just for the hell of it?

Okay, the engineers did. The rest of us were sort of staring at them, because, dude, what?

SOUTH? As in Apathy Dorm?

I can see North Dorm building a cannon and using it to fire vile things at East. But South?

*lived in South for 2 years, tried to throw a corridor party once, only Westies showed up...*

Essentially. And while the composition of the student body may have changed, there were a fair number of geniuses who were also freaking naive about people.

(As my mom was a parole officer for most of my life, I admit I *mostly* don't have that problem... Mine comes from trying to deny the 'people are selfish assholes' reaction so hard that I'll trust because otherwise I'd live in a complete vacuum... and then get bit, 'cause my instinct were right on. Ah, well.)

Turimel did win the fight over the $10,000 eventually and didn't have to pay it, but she had that hanging over her head for years. That's the kind of thing that makes for a lot of sleepless nights. No one's going to forget that kind of experience in a hurry.
