I find it funny that someone who is accusing others of not understanding Japanese culture thinks American small towns are *MORE* conformist.

Now, to say every small town is more or less conformist than every individual Japanese person/group would be a gross oversimplification/stereotype. But as a broad generalization like she's painting? Nuh-uh. Analogy fail.

Also, making a female character who kicks ass and takes names is NOT necessarily making a strong female character. Even if she's the most powerful character in the universe, if all she wants to do when she's done grinding the bad guys into dust is go shopping at the mall and talk about bois or basically is a non-personality in comparison to how the men of the series are written, she's not. Too many writers think they can transform a bland female stereotype into a 'strong female character' just by having her stop a bulldozer with her bare hands.

Have you ever been to small towns, or states like Utah? People there are extremely community oriented. They go to church together, they organize outings together, they participate in events organized by their community, and they shun people out who do not conform to their life style, primarily their religion. In big cities, like NY or LA, it's different because there is a much bigger population and diversity.

I can't figure out if this is a deliberately disguised potshot at Japanese culture, or if it just ends up looking that way.

I've seen what you guys write on your FC. The level of nastiness skyrocketed in the much celebrated XXX version. You've talked about nothing but sexual positions, STDs, and other crap. And when the New Year's spread came out, you boasted about how Ichigo will slither through Orihime's flowers. Not all of you are equally perverted, but you don't seem to regulate what is posted on your FC until a mod comes and shuts you down.

An argument from authority is always a strawman unless you can back it up. It doesn't matter which one of your friends knows the Japanese culture, unless you provide your own knowledge of it and correctly apply it to your manga analysis.

The way [info]vitiates talks about understanding Japanese Culture, it makes it seem like the culture is only limited to Bleach itself. Which is, uh, no? It could just be my comprehension fail at 4am though.

Even if I haven't read the latest 100+ chapters, I ship Ichigo & Orihime though. I just have a soft spot for their sort of relationship ♥

She's hilarious all around, but right now I'm most amused by her insistanse that a ship being popular in Japan means IT'S CANON.

(Things I can tell you is canon based on this fact: KakaIru, Wincest, and probably pretty much all Gundam ships ever.)
