Bleach, in my Incarnate? It's more likely then you think.
Thanks to [info]wtf for the Write up at [info]fandom_lounge.

Alrighty. It seems that Nick Simmons, son of Gene Simmons, is a comic book artist. And a huge fan of Bleach. So huge that he apparently copied from it wholesale. Especially Orihime and Captain Badass, er, I mean Kenpachi. But not Byakuya *is secretly a Byakuya/Kenpachi shipper, ZOMG THEIR LOVE IS SO EPIC AND TRUE!*

Ahem.

(ETA He swiped from a whole bingo card worth of fandoms. Hellsing 1/2, Deathnote, FMA, One Piece, Naruto 1/2, Deadman Wonderland, Lupin the Third, Neon Genesis Evangelion, More Hellsing with touch of Death from Sandman, various artists on Deviantart, and probably a few others I've forgotten about. The most blatant stuff is Bleach and Hellsing)

Bleach fans mobilize on Twitter, LiveJournal, Facebook and Nick's Deviantart.

VIZ and Kubo Tite respond on Twitter. A rough translation for Kubo here.

Nick's publisher responds:

We at Radical Publishing, Inc. and Radical Comics, Inc. are quite concerned to hear the news surrounding Nick Simmons’s Incarnate Comic Book. We are taking this matter seriously and making efforts now to contact the publishers of the works in question in an effort to resolve this matter. We have halted further production and distribution of the “Incarnate” comic book and trade paperback until the matter is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties. Rest assured that Radical is taking swift action regarding this matter and will continue in its efforts to maintain the integrity and protect the intellectual property of artists throughout the world whose creative works are the bedrock of our Company and the comic book industry.

See RDR Books? This is how you respond to situations like this.

Comic Book Resources and Anime News Network on the issue.

Return of the ETA: Nick Simmons kinda sorta apologizes. New York Times arts blog.

“Like most artists I am inspired by work I admire. There are certain similarities between some of my work and the work of others. This was simply meant as an homage to artists I respect, and I definitely want to apologize to any Manga fans or fellow Manga artists who feel I went too far. My inspirations reflect the fact that certain fundamental imagery is common to all Manga. This is the nature of the medium.

“I am a big fan of Bleach, as well as other Manga titles. And I am certainly sorry if anyone was offended or upset by what they perceive to be the similarity between my work and the work of artists that I admire and who inspire me.”

Thanks [info]reeve!

Hey someone do me a favor? I suspect that that spine-thing Blondihime attaches to Mot and Chadichigo's spines might have been swiped from Blue Beetle. You know the scene where the Beetle welds itself to Jaime's spine and it's all glowy and blue and you can see every vertebra. But I don't have any scans of either scene so I can't check myself. Thanks tetradecimal and [info]perletwo! I think at most it was inspired by BB, the poses are too dissimilar, but you decide.

Oh goddammit, I knew I shouldn't have clicked the ED link. Everytime I go there recently, I get hit with that goddamned Vista Antivirus 2010. Does anyone know how to prevent this without paying copious amounts of money to some 'antivirus' program or another? Because it appears to be jumping Windows Firewall.

Is that the one where a blue popup window and antivirus thing keeps showing up? I did a scan with Malwarebytes and AVG and it hasn't been back, so I think those would be pretty effective.

Yeah, I got Malwarebytes and got rid of it, but it keeps coming back. Apparently AVG and Avast seem to be the way to go.

I use Avast and Firefox Adblock and I've never had a problem with that site.

Never ever buy protection from a popup, all they'll do is load more viri and run away with your money, laughing.

Avast and AVG are free and easy to install, and much better then Norton or whatever you might be paying for.

THANK YOU - yeah, I wasn't quite dumb enough to do that, and Adblock usually takes care of everything for me, but in the past two days, I've gotten this same bug three times. The first time I was on Mangastream, and the last two times have been from ED, so I'm either getting it someplace completely random and it's flagging those two sites, or it's actually on the sites. I can't tell.

And this is apparently a particularly bad one, as it will actually delete your Sys32 files if you actually give them money to 'activate' it. Good thing I'm stingy.

Yikes that's scary.

The good thing about Avast is that it will yell at you (with a flashing screen and siren!) if you clicked on a link that tries to load a virus, you have to read the warning and click through that screen to get to that bad page. Of course, wise people don't want to.

AVG might do something similar, but it's been a few years since I last used it.

Yeah, I'm getting AVG and trying to install it right now since both of you recommended it. If it doesn't take this time, I'll do Avast. :3

Avast seems to be more visibly protective than AVG. I didn't get the "don't click that link!" with AVG (I just switched two, three weeks ago?) that I've got a couple times with Avast. Also, I LOVE being startled awake in the middle of the night/morning when the Avast virus database gets updated and I've forgotten to turn the speakers back to quiet. There's no missing the fact that it has updated. -.-

(Though I remembered to turn off the voice a few days ago, so now I only get the loud DING.)

Well, AVG just finished, so I'll see how it pans out. Thanks for the help. :3b

I am reasonably certain that AVAST is designed for the computer illiterate who need flashing light and being yelled at to avoid downloading Bad Things.

Supposedly there is a way to disable the alerts for the new version of the virus database. Personally I like them because my wi-fi connection can be iffy, and that alert lets me know when mai machEEEN is online.

The only problem is that Avast always screams at me when someone e-mails me with a Japanese subject line. It always makes messages from my teachers exciting.

A friend of mine who is very techie told me that when one of those pop-ups first appear, to not click yes or no or even hit the corner X to make it go away. All of those will trigger the virus to install. Instead, use Ctl-Alt-Del to bring up the task manager and kill it from there.

Ooh, good one. Yeah, I usually hit the corner X instead of doing anything else. I'll keep that in mind, in case it comes back.

I use Avast and Firefox Adblock..

Throw in noscript, and you've got a winning set. =D I'll take the irritation of having to tell it when to run some java script over having something automatically install without my permission.

I want a nice, working noscript for Opera. :/ (There is one, actually, but it confused the hell out of me.) Opera can turn off Javascript globally and you can then configure individual sites, but it affects Opera widgets as well :/ which is bad because I actually use some.

If Opera had a working noscript, I'd so be using Opera right now. (I know the one you're talking about and it confused the hell out of me too. Also, it couldn't selectively block scripts on a site.)

Yeah, I wasted an afternoon trying to make that thing work, but in the end I gave up. I think it could selectively block scripts and whatnot, but it was just too damn confusing. :/

I just wish more things were for Camino - which is like Firefox, but does not make my Mac all cranky. Much fewer addons, though :(

SuperAntiSpyware also works really well, despite the silly name. It can recognize a lot of viruses that Avast can't.
