She could actually be some studly dude.
Hot off the wank_report presses:

Jenny Edwards, aka The Rejection Queen, is a "soon to be published author who is still getting rejection letters from literary agents". She runs a blog called Tales from a Rejection Queen, which consists of a laundry list of rejection letters for her writing dating back to 2008. Lest you think this might make for boring reading material, the letters are also interspersed with icons such as "Careful, you might end up in my novel!" and "How 'bout NO!".

Suddenly, the dam breaks. (Google Cache link)

"***So yesterday I was on the war path and reallllllly fuking pissed at some of these agents who rejected me without even giving me 30 seconds of consideration. Here are the the worst literary agents to date. # 1: Janet Reid is a bitch. Plain and simple. Don't even bother with her. I get a mental image of some old hag who thinks her shit don't stink. # 2-Nathan Brandsford thinks he's god's gift to the literary world.. # 3- Jillian Manus and her whole pathetic literary agency. # 4 - Curtis Brown and his nimrod agents oh and # 5--Writer's House Agents..."HEY AGENTS AT WRITER'S HOUSE! FUCK YOU. I HOPE ONE DAY I GET TO TELL YOU THAT TO YOUR FACE.

I have more, but I can't think of all of them right now. Just to pissed off to name anymore.

I can tell you one thing...Literary agents wouldn't know a good novel if it lit a fire up their ass. All these agents are looking for right now is trend. If you don't have the next lame ass vampire, paranomoral or science fiction book...you best start writing one or go find another job. "

The comments explode.

Meanwhile, at the Absolute Write cave: people begin to take notice.
Allegations are made that the published book RQ keeps claiming she authored -- the one that she insists is coming out in 2010 and was picked up by Grand Central -- is actually Gunning Down Romance, printed by one PublishAmerica.

Whole thread here, complete with boggling and J'ACCUSE: I'm just stunned by the fact she can't spell the "f" word properly.

The offending journal entry at RQ's blog is quickly deleted, and a new entry posted:
Ah, it's so interesting to see how many people have really nothing better to do with their lives. I must admit, I love stirring up shit.....but people go waaaay to extremes. I didn't read any of the comments posted on my last blog entry. The only reason I deleted it was because I don't need the drama. I don't really give a shit if my post is cached on google. I would have kept it up if I didn't get some 80 comments on it. Wow, that's a record for haters!!! Anyway, if anymore haters post comments on my blog...it will be deleted. That's all I got to say about that.

Yeah I've been "Xed" from publishing? Interesting.......I just got another request for a partial. Toodles!!!

Comments are deleted left and right as RQ insists that her publisher is totally legit, that she could actually be "some studly dude" and not the author of Gunning Down Romance at all, and that "lol. I am still revising my second novel. I'm about to send out the first three chapters to an agent right now."

I read this from the wank report yesterday, before she took it down. The writing style on her blog is incredibly irritating, though I suspect this whole thing might be a publicity stunt of some kind. I mean, what author would send a manuscript to agents who don't represent their genre?

The misspelling of "fuck" sounds like she's been reading Tanya Huff. Now I would like to point out that Tanya Huff is probably 0.0000001% as wanky as this and so has considerably more literary licence to use the word without looking silly.

The way she writes about her to-be-published novel suggests that it's not through a real publisher. Authors who are really facing publication go through a long, long cycle of revisions, so by the time the novel comes out, most of them are so sick of it that their blog announcements are along the lines of, "It's out! It's out! Go buy it! Buy it lots! Oh hell my next project is eating my lunch k see u bai."

Plus they don't think that getting the book in print will change everything, or take a load off, or anything else like that. For one thing, they know it'll be a while before they see the money.

Anyway, if she has a Real Publisher, why is she looking for a publisher for her second novel? Shouldn't that be, y'know, the first publisher?

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the agents named are:

1)&2) Behind the two biggest agent blogs that accept queries
3) known more for the starpower of her authors and personal associates
4) #2's agency
5) One of the biggest and most prestigious literary agencies out there.

Actually, Jillian Manus doesn't seem to fit. If I were her, I'd be scared to be included in the list.

Is it just me, or is Naming Names like that really dumb? I mean, it's not hard for an agent or editor to google their names, or the name of the person sending in the manuscript and see that they're saying some really unprofessional shit. Calling an agent a bitch, for what? They rejected your manuscript? Why should they buy it if they don't like it? If the agent or editor doesn't like a book they won't give it their full support, and that only hurts the book in the long run.

Only if you're almost entirely insignificant. There are bloggers who could get that many hate-filled comments just for sneezing, and some of them are probably even in the publishing industry.

Also, gosh, with all those exclamation points and the lack of commas and the unnecessary and/or incorrectly-sized ellipses, I can't imagine while all the literary agents aren't lining up to get a piece of that action. Shocking!

... oh dear.

People who get this angry at literary agents for rejecting them really should take a huuuuuge step back. Unless this is a troll, of course - I wouldn't be surprised, considering that Janet Reid and Nathan Bransford have both done so much to help out unpublished writers, so this much RAGE in their direction would be ridiculous. Then again, 90% of the people querying them are that ridiculous.

I'm amused at the Writers House rage. I had a manuscript out with an agent there last month, and though he ultimately rejected me, he was incredibly kind and helpful. (To those of you who write YA, definitely query Steven Malk!)

Agents love new clients who already have a publishing deal. All the really tough work is already done and all the agent has to do is negotiate a fair contract. I find it impossible to believe she's with a "real" publisher if she still can't get an agent with an offer in hand.

I didn't read any of the comments posted on my last blog entry.

Really? Then how do you know they were haters? If it's the entry I read from the Wank Report link, she most certainly did comment at least once. It was also full of people point out her unprofessional temper tantrum and general fail, so I don't think that counts as hate.

Also, and I wish I could remember where, I saw an article for a writing blog (not one person, but several authors...what are those blogs called? Anyway) by a literary fiction author complaining that agents aren't interested in "real" work, just vampire novels, that good work never gets published because agents won't submit it, etc. Basically the same butt hurt we see here because somebody didn't do her fucking homework. The comments there pointed that out too, that there's like three times the agents for literary fiction as for fantasy/sci-fi. Romance has like twice the number. If you can't get one of them to represent you, you're either a) not trying or b) sucking so hard their mailboxes implode.

Wow. If all this is true, then who's been publishing all the good books I've been reading lately? HOW are these authors avoiding the publishing blackhole from which only mediocre vampire novels escape? Am I only imagining I've read these books?

OH MY GOD, I'm having a schizophrenic break characterized by high quality professionally published fiction. Thank god this woman complained, or I never would have known!

This wank made me spend several hours wondering where I'd heard 'Gunning Down Romance' before... and then suddenly blurting out "It's the chorus of that Savage Garden song!"

Now I've got coworkers looking at me funny.

Were those rejection letters supposed to be awful? Because they seemed polite and professional to me. It's not like they peed all over her manuscript and then sent it back in a box full of angry bees.
