Wank machine keeps on rollin'
1. Pixar makes incredible, mind-blowing third movie in Toy Story series.
2. Rotten Tomatoes logs over 130 reviews - all positive.
3. Toy Story 3 gets it's first (so far, only) bad reviews.
4. Internet explodes. (Also here.)

The wank seems to be focused on Armond White's review, as he is known for seemingly giving any review that goes against the general consenus. (He inexplicably seems in favour of Transformers 2, for instance.) He also doesn't appear to have actually watched the movie (identifying Hamm as a villain.) His negative review was actually predicted by a number of commenters in this earlier article, asking readers to predict where Toy Story 3 would end up on the Tomatometer rating.

It's all very dramatic, with wank in every corner. But of course, the most important Toy Story-related argument is and always will always be: Buzz/Jessie or Woody/Jessie?*

*Anyone's who's seen the movie will know the right answer to this.

Pixar doesn't have enough women in key creative roles. That's mostly because the animation industry in general is sorely lacking in females. I hope that'll change in the future. The more girls get into animation, the faster the change will come.

...I'm in art school because I want to be one of those girls.

Good luck. I was studying to be an animator, but I got pissed off at way too many of the art professors since a lot of them were like "We want you to draw a certain way, but we're not going to tell you what that way is because you have to figure it out for yourself and if you ask questions obviously that means that you don't know what you're doing because you lack the passion."

Yeah... I was like fuck it, I'm going back to writing.

I have one professor like that! All of us got so frustrated with the guy we never came to class and now we all have to take his class again. Yeah, looking forward to that. *groan*

The rest are super cool, though. They're all "let's see what you can do" and when we do what we like and they're all "well, that's cool! Now here's what you can do to make it BETTER while still keeping your own style!" And we're all "yay!" because that's awesome.

Protip: take some programming classes if you can. I am one of those girls, and I came in with a computer science degree. The industry is super rough on art students, who can be picked up cheaply right out of college and bounced between projects and studios. If you've got some technical skills, you'll have more staying power, and that is definitely a Good Thing.

Good luck getting here! We need more women, seriously. When I pointed out how it was seriously sexist that all the sweatboxes are named for Japanese porn stars, the guys turned around and tried to convince me that it was sexist that H&M has a smaller selection of men's clothing than women's clothing. How the two are at all comparable, I have NO IDEA.

This is a random comment from someone on the interwebs, but I'm still all verklempt from seeing Toy Story 3* and your comment makes me happy. I hope you kick ass and get to tell awesome stories.

* The fact that I saw a movie and went back to read a wank writeup ... may say something about me.
