Wank machine keeps on rollin'
1. Pixar makes incredible, mind-blowing third movie in Toy Story series.
2. Rotten Tomatoes logs over 130 reviews - all positive.
3. Toy Story 3 gets it's first (so far, only) bad reviews.
4. Internet explodes. (Also here.)

The wank seems to be focused on Armond White's review, as he is known for seemingly giving any review that goes against the general consenus. (He inexplicably seems in favour of Transformers 2, for instance.) He also doesn't appear to have actually watched the movie (identifying Hamm as a villain.) His negative review was actually predicted by a number of commenters in this earlier article, asking readers to predict where Toy Story 3 would end up on the Tomatometer rating.

It's all very dramatic, with wank in every corner. But of course, the most important Toy Story-related argument is and always will always be: Buzz/Jessie or Woody/Jessie?*

*Anyone's who's seen the movie will know the right answer to this.

The Toy Story franchise and Wall-E are the only Pixar movies I can stomach. I'm not a huge fan of 3D animation as opposed to 2D, but if it can be done well.

3D definitely had that big surge of OMG LET'S MARKET LOTS OF CRAP~ and managed to make quite a bit from it. I know that happened with 2D as well, but 3D being so new...I don't feel it helped it very much at all.

Though I've noticed that lately other studios are taking the medium more seriously; How to Train Your Dragon was really good, I thought Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was decent, and I'm kind of excited for some of the new DreamWorks films coming out, but crap like the forth Shrek needs to go.

Yeah I really didn't think the Shrek franchise needed three sequels. But then, I also didn't think so about Toy Story.

I really liked the first Shrek sequel (I could watch this stupid movie again and again and never get tired), and I could stomach the second only because Artie pushed my squee buttons for some reason (I don't even like Justin Timberlake, what the hell). The one that just got released... yeah, I'm not sure I'm going to see that in theaters, if at all. My only excuse for seeing it was Artie but he appears to be sorely lacking in that movie, so.

That's why I didn't see the third movie. I did like the last one, though. I thought it was a nice wrap up.

Don't bother for the last one. It just...I love the first Shrek movie to pieces, it's one of my all time favorite movies. I'm determined to pretend the other movies don't exist.

Am I the only person who thought that Dragon was absolutely awful?

For what it's worth, I refuse to watch it. But that's only because I got spoiled for something that happens in the end that pushes all my phobia buttons and saddens me too much to touch that film with a ten-foot pole.

Pixar is pretty much the only 3D studio whose animation doesn't seem soulless to me. I prefer 2D generally, but I think Pixar does 3D very well. (Dreamworks is improving a bit but their textures always make me twitch, and in general I just don't think the films are as good.)
