Down the rabbit hole, fishing for compliments with a phaser.
Good ol' [info]wank_report.

This is one of those wanks that just gets weirder the more you look at it. Small, relatively contained, but delightfully odd.

It starts with this fic written by akainagi. Star Trek/Alice in Wonderland crossover. Ok, no problems there, if that's your thing. The author is not the wanker here, as far as I know. In fact, the author doesn't seem to enter into it at all, except for having written the fic. No, the wank here is from a Devoted Fan, one chrismata1976. Chrismata makes...art...to accompany the fic. Another example.

Now note, in that first link, that there is a reply thanking someone for praise that I don't actually see? I'm not really sure what's up there. We will see this pattern again.

Anyways, chrismata posts a poll to her journal and the comm. As with all good polls, it accomodates a variety of opinions. A full seven ways of expressing how much you like it! Oh, and two less positive responses. Just to kick things off, Chrismata casts the first vote.

I think I should point something out here. As far as I can tell, this is neither the author nor a sock of the author, though the latter is still possible. At the very least not an obvious sock, with the user infos having different ages, different occupations, and different styles. Remember, akainagi is the fic's author, chrismata is just a fan doing some drawings. Right off, I'm a little puzzled. Is she asking for opinions on the fic without the author's consent? They may be talking in flocked entries or some other private medium, but the author is staying very silent here.

Okay!

Anywho, the opinions don't exactly favor the art, which chrismata takes very calmly. Then, a slightly more balanced NEW poll is posted, to the same two locations. "For more active members," it says. Again, the actual votes are not resoundingly positive, but this time we can't see who's doing the voting, though there's that one (UND ONLY VON) "continue" vote.

Then it all stops making sense, as chrismata posts this to her personal journal. Again, she replies to her own entry, I have no idea what about, but she seems to be throwing some kind of hissy about some kind of feedback she received, and...well try to interpret it for yourselves:

You know in my 34 years, I have always kept my cool of how people behave on the internet or society. BUT HERE??? When people when did LJ become a welcome exclusively club? What happen to open community? Are people that stuck up??? Are people that paranoid?

You know if you have interested a particular fandom to be a "friend" then that just freaking freaking immature. (Like Totally) I understand people are not interested in crossovers and that is fine, different interests make a community. But we all now have about but belonging to the exclusive club mentality (c is JUST FUCKING RIDICULOUS! What happen to making friends!

I am sorry for ranting.... Back in my corner to pout in my coffee
and being just disgusted

...yeah I got nothing. So join me, fellow wankas, in bemused head-scratching at the drama which seems to be playing out here.

ETA 1: Discovered by [info]kuromitsu: I'll help, now go give feedback on this story I'm doing art for! That's...special.

ETA Should-Have-Been-1: helenvalentine clarifies the whole mess with one excellent flowchart and we are breaking out in icons the way some people get hives.

ETA 3: We seem to have bahleetion/lockdown. Some caps in this thread, I have a few of my own I can post if I have time later.

I, for one, love chrismata's art. I feel it captures perfectly the moment of horrified disbelief a Starfleet officer must feel when they realize that it has finally happened -- someone they know and love has become the victim of a tragic transporter accident.

But who is the real victim? Is it not true that we are all of us, to some degree, products of a failed reconstitution at a molecular level of a once greater being, now fused nightmarishly together in a jumble of limbs, melting eyeballs, and poorly coordinated ice skating uniforms?

Apparently chrismata is doing an art-fic collaboration with akainagi, or at least chrismata thinks so. In the comm posts she talks about "we" and "us," and there's further evidence here and here. Akainagi never seems to respond to chrismata, though... maybe she just doesn't want to tell her that she doesn't like her art and would like her to stop?

I currently attend Penn foster college for advance web design and Asworth College for Graphic Art Design. I just receive my diploma in General Arts. After all this is done, i going into busniess for myself.

Something that doesn't require literacy, I hope.

Wait, she has the poll posted three times in her LJ and not two? I see one is a 'repost' but still. The first one had 17 responses, the next 18, and the last one has 3?

Why, just why? Are people's opinions going to magically going to change over a cup of coffee and the threat of ponfarr art? Or is she going just keep posting until she gets the responses she wants? Note that the author of the story never even voted in the first poll. That's a huge clue right there. I'm actually feeling slightly bad for akainagi in this case. She needs to nod slowly and back away...before the next picture.

Because this quote is a bunch of do.not.want: "i bringing the art up the M level a notch."

Art is too photo quality

I used to study art. I feel like I should know what that means but I don't *scratches head*

So basically this is a collaboration fic of some sort? If somebody I'm working in a fan-project flip their shit out in public like this I'd hide away like akainagi too XD

Oh man, this stuff kept turning up in my Deviantart clubs and I found it an equal measure repulsive and fascinating in between bogglings at the subject matter (Data in Wonderland? Whaaaaaat?).

Its badness is compelling.
