Blade Runner Wank
My living room is a bastion of nerd-wank.

The other night my boyfriend and friend started watching Bladerunner at about 1AM. They kept repeatedly pausing it and rewinding it and cross-referencing it with Philip K. Dick's 'Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep?', then discussing the moral and philosophical implications of the post-apocalyptic world and androids. Then they watched a documentary on the matter.

I eventually crawled into bed around 5AM. I woke up five and a half hours later.

They were still awake AND still discussing Harrison Ford's role as an android.

10 and a half hours of bladerunner wank. In my own house.

I feel disconcerted...

Wow. I mean, it's a good movie and all, but... isn't that bit too obsessive? :D

When the two of them get onto something they both like they can go on about it until the cows come home.

It's mildly worrying. I just switch off and lose myself in writing or neverwinter nights.

Scary.

Neverwinter Nights, the game? I tried it, but it was too 3D for me, gives me a headache. I prefer Diablo2.

That's kinda cute. In that hopelessly pathetic way, of course...

they're both deeply intelligent people. severely so. they just tend to take their intellecutalising a little far too seriously.

try living with it. i just sit on my couch and keep out of it and occasionally pass a joint around and nod and go uh-huh! and feign enthusiasm.

Wow. *awed*

That could've been any one of my friends from college . . . first time I met most of them, they were already involved in rapid-fire exhaustive intellectual discussion of sci-fi.

By the way, there's something beautiful about the line "My living room is a bastion of nerd-wank." Makes me misty-eyed, or something.

well, if it's not sci-fi wank then it's music wank, and if it's not music wank, it's simpsons wank, and if it's not that, then it's my tolkien wank.

Damn the carpet must be sticky
