Eleanor Roosevelt says you're paid in exposure
Edit: False alarm, the author of the wank is underage.

But have some cake in compensation.

Dragon’s very innocuous comments have struck a nerve, causing them to be misconstrued and taken terribly out of context.

This is a very special kind of... special. "How dare you be offended by his TOTALLY INNOCUOUS AND NOT AT ALL EXPLOITATIVE COMMENTS!" I mean, the whole thing is, mm, hard to find a good one-word summary for it, but this really does take the cake in terms of disingenuousness.

Is he talking about himself in the third person, or did someone else write that comment?

Sorry, fixed to make it more clear. The replacement comment is from a defender of the author (barring sockpuppets).

. . . "my putting a price on his work" . . .

Uh, no, that's not how free market economies work, precious. You don't decide the value of someone's work in a vaccuum. They set a price and find out who will pay it. If nobody does, they adjust their price. In a competitive market, in which artists are competing for buyers and buyers are competing (via bidding) for artwork.

Lying to someone about the value of their work, setting deflated prices that don't reflect a work's true value but pretending they do... that's not paying for it. That's defrauding the artist. Biiiiiiig difference, sunshine.

...Oh wait, I'm not supposed to use Earth Logic here, am I? *blush*

As a failed artist myself, I'll resist the strong urge to rage at this.

But it's a brilliant business plan, really. Not being up front with the people you're collaborating with is a fantastic way to build solid working relationships and foster feelings of goodwill and teamwork with all parties involved. Just imagine the high quality products you'll get with future projects!

What an asshole.

Some of you complained about the way I deal with payments, which actually surprised me to a great extent. There have been several times I’ve been working on a game with an artist only to have him/her walk out on me halfway through. Paying after guarantees safety for both parties.

Actually, that only seems to guarantee safety for you, douchebag.

Oof. There really needs to be an internet safety course for scammers like this. It doesn't help that there's a huge crop of naive, unsuspecting teenage artists out there that can be taken in by stuff like this. I stopped watching one artist on dA after a flurry of hysterical journals about some guy who emailed her, offered a spot in a super-special art university that was so new there wasn't a website for it yet and he needed $5000 up front or he'd give away her spot. She was all like OMG I WANT TO GO SO BAD WHAT DO I DO GUYS. I suppose she should get credit for asking the internet first before ponying up the money, but christ on a cracker.

I’m sorry for anyone that finds capitalism to be the devil.

For reals, guys. All he's saying is that you should hire someone who will work for less than they're worth, refuse to pay them until the job is completed and pay them even less if the job's not done by a possibly knowingly unreasonable deadline or if it doesn't meet arbitrary standards that the person doing the hiring can change at will in order to deny the artist money they rightfully earned. What, are you all sociali$ts or something?

And predictably the victim-blaming mouth fappers come out in force!

Amusingly, these are the people who cry the loudest and longest whenever anything he east bit bad happens to them. None of them can take the tiniest slight or 'injustice' against them (with 'injustice' meaning 'it didn't come out with them on top'). They're all pissy, prating little stinkbabies.

I like how the defender is defending Kaitol because he's helping artists earn a living, when it sounds like he's doing everything possible to avoid paying a living wage.

I wonder if he's ever managed to get someone to work with him twice.

Also, ED says main wanker is underage. Not that I trust them, but, should we investigate more or claim exception? Because this is an different level of idiocy.
