A day after theamaranthe posts about Amat application fail, blackwinged_dov posts their own experience with the community. They tell the story of the character they tried to app (who turns out to be Christopher Nolan!Batman Crane), that was rejected when they tried to mix comic and movie canon to flesh out Crane’s backstory…after they had received permission from a mod to do so, considering movie!Crane has zero backstory. The mod in question contacts the app team to discuss it; but the application is still rejected, because the “comic and movie canons are too different.”

Blackwinged_dov revises the app and also includes a diagnosis of “Dissociative Identity Disorder” in the personality section, after backing it up with some scenes from the film. The app team again rejects, on the basis of too much headcanon, not enough canon canon. Blackwinged_dov resubmits a final time, after writing a thousand word essay on why they feel Crane has DID and backing it up with references to the film. Again, rejected because of too much headcanon. Also, they told blackwinged_dov that zie had Crane’s sexuality wrong, and that he should be played straight, not asexual.

The wank starts a two comments in, when xstoptheworldx tells OP they double-posted, when in actuality, OP posted to BRPS and Bad Mods Suck. Itsafuckingsock replies with a classy, “TWICE THE WHINING FOR YOUR DOLLAR!” And begins an epic thread where they repeat how much they don’t care that OP used BRPS and BMS but they just think OP’S butthurt is hilarious.

Four comments in, itsafuckingsock tells OP that they should have posted in BMS, and that they should delete their post (which is against comm rules and can earn you instant bahnnination). But they totally didn’t know that you guys! They just were trying to help! And OP is totes butthurt! Also several people chime in (including a mod) that mod-fail has its own tag at BRPS and is perfectly acceptable as a topic.

After itsafuckingsock is decided to be either a) a troll or b)a BUTTHURT APP TEAM MEMBER, ribbonista appears to ask, “How is a character with only 20 minutes worth of canon in a film even appable?”

You see, “it's a little dodgy to accept characters that mix headcanon, movie, and comic canon, especially when there might be complications and marked differences between the different canons already.”

Thebrokenprince relates an experience with the app process, and admits a love/hate relationship with Amat. Ribbonista doesn’t think that “the solution is going to come from snide little secrets on RPS and wank here on BRPS.” She’s “a little disappointed, to be honest.”

Thebrokenprince and other commenters point out that it seems communication between mods (let alone the app team) is dodgy at best, and that keeping things private hasn’t done anything to fix the system. Ribbonista wants us to know that she thinks poorly of people who use these wanky comms to complain and that it hurts her wee nerves to know they’re in her game.

Gisei_nashi_ni approaches with a dose of logic: How amusing. You’ve come to BRPS to complain about…people coming to BRPS. And I also love the way that you're completely ignoring the mods from this game trolling here but are seriously pegging this on the rightful complaints.

Ribbonista replies with a mature NO U TROLLIN, and tells her that “your ridiculously snooty attitude is not appreciated. Neither are your rather idiotic assumptions about a game you are not even a part of.”

Oh, and “with all due respect, they’ve been running a game for years and it’s immensely popular. They must be doing something right.”

Higenshi: ...Twilight is also immensely popular. Doesn’t mean it’s actually good.

In another thread, the great debate, What is the Difference Between Canon and Headcanon begins, and what does and doesn't belong on the app:

Blackwinged_dov: Then tell me straight up that head canon isn't allowed, instead of asking me to revise it with more support. It gave me the impression that head canon was allowed, with enough support.

Bananasock: Canon evidence makes something canon, not just headcanon. They were asking for canon evidence of what you think as your headcanon and what actually is just headcanon because it doesn't have enough canon evidence. I really don't know how to word is clearer so you'd finally get it.

In another thread, an argument over whether personality can be a part of sexuality or not is debated, including whether or not it was acceptable for the mods to change Crane’s sexuality to straight when according to strict canon we’re never told what his sexuality is. Corvicae continues to miss higenshi’s point, and bananasock comes back to whiteknight some more. Obviously, you should put sexuality as unknown (never mind the mods changed the sexuality in her app to begin with, it’s clearly OP’s fault)! Sexuality=/= personality! Stereotypes are bad! Making shit up! Something about seatbelts! Words! What! Do! They! MEAN?!

Blackwinged_dov thinks it would help if there was an actual app rule about headcanon. Corvicae doesn’t understand why you need rules about something that is COMMON SENSE.  “And they shouldn’t have to state in their application page that they don’t want AU/OC versions of characters when it’s already in the rules.”

Also, lol @ u she totes knows what AU/OC/OOC mean, ok??!! Stop telling her that she’s wrong, she remembers when LJ only allowed three userpics! Clearly this means she knows what she’s talking about!! Right????

Rockthesesocks passive aggressively replies: Amat is based pretty heavily in anonymity, anyway, so you should be fine.
And as far as I've seen you haven't really been wank stirring so much as venting a little. A little too publicly maybe and for reasons some people see as unjustified, but you haven't been that bad. I'd say you're good. :)

And again, headcanon not being allowed is obvious. Why don’t you understand? Which leads to rockthesesocks and gisei_nashi_ni arguing where the line can be drawn between headcanon/canon, and what qualifies as just parroting a wiki and what is plain making shit up.

On page two, rock_these_socks asks: Out of curiosity, what happens when your character has no canon backstory, you make one up to app with, and then canon gives you one that contradicts the canon you’ve been playing with?

Gisei_nashi_ni: It’s called “one of many things that can potentially happen when RPing from a canon that isn’t yet complete.”

Rockthesesocks: Yeah, but what do you do? Looking for specifics here. Not just smartass replies.

Several people reply, with various responses, but rockthesesocks doesn’t think that you should supply backstory to your character if you aren’t given one from canon. You should keep it a secret. Or else you need to incorporate it into your RP!

But my favorite reply is from dimitrinabokov:

You don’t retcon it. You know why? The RP is an obvious AU where everyone fucks to survive.

If someone had to retcon that because “oh well now canon contradicts it,” you would have to apply that same logic to the RP as a whole and thus nuke the whole place into oblivion.

Rockthesesocks: All RPS are an AU.

But having sex to survive doesn’t change your character’s personality. It just forces them into a situation where they have to have sex to live. If they hate it and do it begrudgingly, then that’s IC. If they love sex, then hey, good for them. If they’d rather die…Chances are the mun will let them die a few times before someone either forces them or they give in and say okay bend me over please.
