Confused Matthew vs 2001: A Space Odyssey vs Chase vs Confused Matthew
A few months back, the enigmatic Confused Matthew reviewed the classic 2001: A Space Odyssey. The 3 part video review involved a lot of "This ISN'T A FILM! It's an ART PROJECT!" and "Land scape......lands scape.....land scape....I heart HAL.......colours......space foetus."

People respond to his review and Confused Matthew responds in turn and it all goes quite well.

Until Chase posts a nine part video screed in which he takes the review personally and uses one massive tone argument.

Confused Matthew responds. After a two part video response, Confused Matthew posted a video saying he was halting the reviews in fear of indeed becoming too personal.

Until today, when he posted part 3.

Grab the popcorn, sit back, and watch.

	You know, I always got the feeling 2001 was a movie most people watch solely in order to feel superior to others, and if Chase is indicative of the fans of this movie, that seems an accurate description. Wow. (Reply to this)(Thread)

I, for one, started watching it for the "Dawn of Man" scenes, became intrigued by the rest, and continued with it. Feeling superior to others didn't enter it at all.

I get that its style of storytelling puts a lot of people off, but it's really one of those movies you have to see to the end before you realize what it's all about (as in, I was going "Oh..." during the last few seconds).

	It's a fairly decent film. I doubt most people watch it for a sense of superiority. That being said, it does seem to attract more than it's fair share of pretentious douchebags who think it's the pinnacle of film-making and are positive that no one else gets it. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

2001 has its virtues, although the last bit of it is definitely rather headtrippy.

I used to have a housemate who told me this great story about when the movie came out (he was a young fellow at the time), he'd hang out outside the theater as people were coming out, holding a sign saying "PLOT EXPLAINED: FIVE DOLLARS". He actually made some decent pocket change doing that. ;)

	I did only watch it to feel superior to others! But I was like fifteen then and basically the only thought fifteen-year-olds have is "I am desperately insecure. How can I feel superior to others?" 	The movie was twenty minutes of screaming monkeys, an hour and a half of small talk, and twenty minutes of WUT? The wank is so far at the 'screaming monkeys' stage. 	I have not seen the film but I remember my mom saying she'd rewatched it relatively recently and concluded that it was awfully . . . slow at times. And I thought "Ah, that's why the stoners love it so. Because it give their minds plenty of time to wander without missing anything important." (Reply to this)

Dude, reviewers, LET IT GO! I had to put up with this enough in art school!

I haven't bothered with the other videos, but I had the patience to watch half of Confused Mathews first response which is just like I had the patience to watch half of 2001. I don't think he's been exposed to the horrors called video art* (which I don't think that 2001 qualifies). I have zero patience for going through all the Caring Too Much debates (go write a term paper already) so I don't know if anyone actually talks about that. However there is actually a piece where a painter (can't remember who) sits in a chair and stares at a painting for hours before making the final stroke. However, it's shot from one angle.

*I ♥ Pipiloti Rist. Also, have some Salvador Dali and Luis Bunuel weirdness (NSFW).

	It seems strange that ConfusedMatthew takes 3 videos over 30 minutes to say "This sucks, don't watch it. It's over-rated." But as soon as I see/hear Chase, I want to bitch slap that tool. The movie was okay, IMO. Seen better, seen worse. (Reply to this)
