Drabble-o, drabble-o, wherefore art thou drabble-o?
Once upon a time, there was a lonely drabble. “How I wish I could be more than 100 words long,” it sighed wistfully.

Over time, fandom granted the drabble its wish. Its meaning drifted, expanding further and further, until finally some allowed it to encompass a large number of short fics.

Its newfound happiness was cut short, however, when [info]catchester claimed anyone who said the drabble could ever be more than 100 words was ignorant and a twit.

The drabble’s spirit was crushed, but happily it found [info]catchester alone was unable to take its shiny new status away.

The End.

GDI, why do they have to be correct yet so freaking awful about it?

(Thumbs up on your word-count for this, btw.)

There's an awful lot of quibbling over the specifics and standards of the English language in that thread for an argument over a word that (as far as I can tell) isn't in an actual dictionary, and so isn't even "standard" English in the first place.

New addition to the non-existent FW drinking game:

When a wanker uses the word "fanbrats", drink once.

When they use it incorrectly while complaining about someone else using a word incorrectly, drain the bottle, then throw it at the screen.

A drabble is 100 words exactly
A double drabble is 200 words exactly
A half drabble is 50 words exactly.

Followed by:

Drabbles are a writing exercise in brevity designed to help you craft your words to fit that very precise and very limited format.

Vignettes are small or short scenes.

Okay, so is a Half Drabble exactly twice as good as a Drabble, and is a Double Drabble only half as good as a Drabble, thus making a Half Drabble FOUR times as good as a Double Drabble?

Also, where on the spectrum of "writing exercise in brevity" to "small or short scenes" does Double Drabble fit? Center, right of center, right of right, left of left ... ?

I'm trying to be exact, here.

I'm normally at least a little sympathetic with nitpicking (I'd probably be capable of just as much epic point-missing if someone talked about a Jane Austen fanfic set in "Victorian England," even if what they were ranting about feedback etiquette or British vs. American spellings, although I hope I wouldn't be so obnoxiously smug about it). However, something about catchester sets my teeth a bit on edge. (There's a very unworthy part of me that hopes that one day she uses "bugs" to describe small land-dwelling invertebrates in general in front of a cranky entomologist.)
