The internet will bend itself to my will!
Thank you to the people on wank_report for this – I’m not familiar with the show or fandom, so I’m mostly using their write-up.

Rakspatel is a livejournal newbie and a big fan of Sherlock Holmes, including the recent BBC version. She likes it so much, she's set up her own comm, Mycrofting. According to its profile:

"Mycrofting is not MY community - it belongs to its members. My vision for this community is that it is run by its members for its members. All members are equal and I have set up the community so that all members can post whatever they want, whenever they want. There is no moderation in place (just as with Cumberbatchfans). I actively encourage all my members to post their own pieces direct onto the community site. I want to make everyone feel at home and able to contribute. I want to give everyone a voice. Mycrofting will therefore end up being what its members make it. Mycrofting is a co-operative enterprise."

Mycrofting, however, doesn't exactly do what it says on the tin.

You can post whatever you want, whenever you want (especially if you're Rakspatel) - unless Rakspatel decides to make a rule you can't. You can contribute - but your idea might be called 'shit' if Rakspatel doesn't like it. You can offer constructive criticism of the way the comm is run - but Rakspatel will claim you're attacking her.

The whole comm is one big (cumber)batch of WTF, but some of the best links are here:

I hate your idea but your suggestions have been pretty spot on
If I have any more stress and drama I am calling Home Office security and Lambeth Police
I was advised to contact the BBC by a copyright lawyer who works for a TV company - do you know better than them?
I have had enough of the vandals.

(Oddly enough, Rakspatel took criticism about her original 'no slash' policy quite well and changed the profile accordingly.)

People (patiently or not so) try to explain things like netiquette and the difference between an LJ and a comm, but they don't appear to get through. And although Rakspatel is an internet newbie, she may have already discovered or is about to discover either (a) sockpuppets or (b) trolls

She's also been causing some drama in the comm dedicated to the lead actor in the BBC version, trying to dictate what people can and can't discuss (especially when his split from his long term girlfriend was announced), although it seems she's been shut down fairly effectively:

Yes I upset people, but plenty of people back me and what I say too.

Stories like this will not be on my com. (other posts were already deleted).

And the latest: Please cross-post this for me to a community I left in protest.

Livejournal fandom is not the first place she's caused controversy. There's a wonderful collection here of stories and links to the problems she's caused elsewhere: Short version - DO NOT ENGAGE.

ETA: The vandals have been hard at work, apparently. They care not for the haphazard breaking of rules and also dared to question Rakspatel’s love for Swivel and the cruel, cruel comments had to be deleted. But vandals are nothing if not organised, and caps can be found here and here (thank you [info]booksbagsshoes). Not to be deterred from her goal of…something, Rakspatel has been forced to start an invite-only comm because “[t]oo many people here had no respect. You could have made a separate post re random and had a discussion. Instead you chose to trash the Swivel post. I hope you are pleased with yourselves.”

Yeah, take that, people who expected a mod to abide by the wishes of a community whose very opinions she had just solicited! The reins have been handed over to a new mod, who seems to have realised just a little too late exactly what they’ve got themselves into.

ETAx2: Because Linked in is where it is at, not LJ, she's leaving the community forever. Really leaving. [ETA: Screencap here, thank you [info]_stolendreams_] Have you all noticed that she's leaving yet?

ETAx3: What, you thought it was over? The new mod tried to implement changes, which went over about as well as you'd expect. Rakspatel makes another post to remind everyone that she's still in charge (wasn't she leaving? And backing the new mod 100%?), which was then updated to add even more passive-aggression. Screencaps of both versions here (thank you [info]killer_gopher).

ETAx4: It seems to have mostly settled down but there's still a little entertainment to be had. Rakspatel has resorted to posting various correspondences with the Undershaw Preservation Trust, including one about her demotion. Members do not recognise the value of what she is sharing with them and are mostly ignoring her posts.

A slashfic was posted but deleted fairly quickly – cap here (thank you, anon!). A clever pro-fanfic post titled The Art of the Pastiche has also sadly gone unnoticed by Raks.

Don’t steal her copyrighted posh invitation to an ‘exclusive’ ten and a half hour event that will be held in the lobby of a theatre! Bonus: she’s also going to send it to [info]gozadreams, who spoke out about her antics in the 'do not engage' link above.

Finally, there are screencaps of various deleted posts here (thanks again for those, everyone!).

ETAx5: Raks discovered the various posts about her, banned two members and informed the community that anyone 'attacking' the mods (i.e. her) would be also be banned. And since one of the other mods turned on anon commenting, everyone came out to play. The post has been deleted but thanks to the anons on the wank_report thread (which has kind of exploded), there's a screencap of the post that includes all but one comment and a cap of the final comment before deletion.

ETAx6: I don't even know where to begin. It's probably easier if you just check page four of this post (and the soon-to-be page five if Raks keeps this up, which she probably will). Includes comment deletions, bannings, un-bannings, a new community and, of course, screencaps.

ETAx7: Raks has now been banned from four Sherlock forums, including the community she created. Detailed write-up plus caps here. And if none of that was bizarre enough for you, enjoy some more WTF here.

Party invites have arrived!

The posh party invites turned up at work today - they are stunning.

I went live with them across the Home Office today - at my old Unit and also with Home Office Security. Everyone loved the invites and a lot of people are coming to the party.

I then took the invite to Salsateca - where I do salsa every week. Again, a lot of people were very excited about the party. Quite a few people asked me if it was my birthday! Tim, one of the instructors, pitched me the genius idea of him and his mates coming dressed as Frankenstein! I loved that idea - it was excellent. It would be great if Tim or Salsateca were to put in an appearance as they could do an impromptu salsa lesson for us!

Raks' first time with Benedict Cumberbatch!

I have spoken to Benedict a few times.

The best time was the first time I saw him play Creature. I went to the stage door. He was signing. I said "I have been a priority member at the National for 20 years and I have seen 80% of the productions they put on here". He smiled. I said "I also do the rounds of London theatres". He said "That's nice". I said "And what I wanted to tell you Benedict - was what you fronted on the Olivier stage tonight - I have not seen the like of that in 20 years." He said "Really?". I said "Yes". He said "Oh my God. Thank you very much Rakshita".

I have completely cleaned up my LJ.

The only coms I am now a member of are:

bakerstreaders (don't check at all)
brother_mine (mycroft - what's not to like?!)
bttf (back to the future - one of my top 3 films of all time)
cabin_pressure (don't check regularly)
community_promo
cumberbatcheday (don't check regularly)
markcroft (love this one - the only way I keep track of Mark)
mycroft_brolly (my own com - obviously my favourite LJ com!)
paidmembers
sherlock_meetup (one of the best coms!)
sherlockbbc (for fan art, screencaps, fanmeets etc) - very ironic! I set up Mycrofting as an anti-thesis to SherlockBBC - I am still a member of SherlockBBC because although I do not do fanfic there is some great material on there.

I wash my hands of the other coms and want nothing more to do with them.

Tops Mini Cabs Balham and the Lighthouse Fish Bar Tooting BEC get their posh party invites

rakspatel wrote in mycroft_brolly
April 13th, 23:58 Today, I dropped off posh party invites at 2 places that are very dear to my heart.

Tops Mini Cabs Balham. They are my local cab company. When I was sick a few years ago they looked after my mum and dad when they came down to London to visit me. They looked after my parents really well so I wanted to say thank you. All their staff are invited to the party.

Lighthouse Fish Bar Tooting Bec. They are my local chippie. I get chips from there a lot. They also watch over me as they are directly opposite the bus stop where I catch my bus home the nights when I am out late at the National etc. They make sure I am safe. The invites are a thank you - they won't be able to come because they will be working all day but they loved the invites and appreciated the gesture.

What are they going to do if she's assaulted -- deep-fry the offender? Throw salt and vinegar in his eyes? Maybe she should put that on a T-shirt: Never walk faster than your guardian angellocal chippie can fling condiments.

the invite is stunning, with excellent wording
[info]loopywafflehead
2011-04-17 12:09 am UTC (link)
From http://community.livejournal.com/mycroft_brolly/36040.html

I would still have done it for the National. I would still have thrown the party in honour of Benedict. Lots of people are coming to the party - from the Home Office, Communities and Local Government, Salsateca, Lambeth libraries, friends, family etc. That would have been perfect. The money would have come in to the National and I would have bought the drinks no hassle.

I won't be throwing an open invite party for Cumberbatchfans again - everyone was unappreciative and talked down my invite. After all the time and effort I put into liaising with the National, doing the wording etc that hurt me.

I can tell you honestly that everyone who knows me and has seen the invite think that the invite is stunning, with excellent wording, that it is a great idea, and they are all up for it and excited. The party will be for them.

Raks explains how to stalk the NT archives

I went to the Archive and I had a slightly different experience.

I rang up the archivist - Gavin - the number is on the website. I explained that I was interested in Nick Hytner and Platforms (talks) which would describe the Director's thought process behind a production.

You can request programmes from all their productions and get them to photocopy them for you (you have to pay) - so you can get a photocopy of the After the Dance and Season's Greetings productions if you want.

When I went round I didn't have to fill in any forms - I had arranged a meeting with Gavin. He came down to collect me. We met for half and hour and I explained I was interested in Nick Hytner.

He asked me if I was doing research or a book. I said no! I was a fan of the National Theatre and a fan of Nick Hytner and I wanted to learn as much as possible about both! I wanted access to Nick's speeches, board meeting minutes etc

Gavin when I spoke to him had recommended 2 books on the history of the National. When I went to see him I showed him that I had tracked them both down on Abebooks and bought them along to show him. I explained that whilst they were great neither covered the period of Nick's tenureship.

I watched the Man of Mode production which was Nick's production. I am returning on 20 April to see Mother Molly's Clap House. He is photocopying a load of programmes for me and also a load of platform papers.

Gavin knows full well that I am not a researcher - just a fan. He is happy with that and had no issue with it whatsoever.

I always find that calling people up and having a chat with them - establishing a human connection - makes all the difference. People should try it - it reaps massive benefits!

I did not find the Arhcive section of the website intimidating at all. On the contrary it contains all the information that you need. Gavin is the friendliest person on the planet and eager to help out. He is getting one of my posh Frankenstein invites and another one for all of his staff. All National staff go out of their way to help you - you only have to ask.

I posted about the Archive on Mycrofting. Some people got the info and are going. I will do a full post about the archive after I go next Wednesday.

Please do not post this on the Umbrella Organisation. The information is not quite correct. I would like to explain how to get a good service at the Archive - this post does not convey that.

The party is now more about all the people that I know - from work first and foremost, from the salsa group, from the mini cab company, from the library where I attend book group, from the walking group, from Swivel, from Brunel University, from All Souls my church, from my Muslim friends within the Home Office, from the Sherlock Holmes Society London, from UPT, from the Audit Commission, from PricewaterhouseCoopers etc etc Plus my mum and dad!

I think it will be a lot more fun this way - much friendlier, upbeat and happening. And it delivers my original objective - to bring all sorts of new people to the National who have never been there before to see what a special place it is.

RESULT!

Universal feedback on the invite from people whereever I have taken it is that it is beautiful and stunning. That is what I think about it as well. Top civil servants have said that - they receive posh invites all the time and know what they are talking about. The National loved it and said it looked professional and they are market leaders on branding.

I don't actually give a damn what small minded and petty people said on Cumberbatchfans. They are a very ungrateful group of people. I won't ever be hosting a party for them again.

Benedict appreciated the good intentions, the thought and the gesture. That is because he is a well brought up, polite and respectful young man. Too bad so many of his fans can't follow his example

Invites hit Brunel University and Starbucks opposite the Home Office
[info]loopywafflehead
2011-04-17 12:19 am UTC (link)
http://mycroft-brolly.livejournal.com/40089.html

Posh party invites went to all the staff at Starbucks opposite the Home Office today - I buy my coffee from them every single morning and I love to have a chat with them - it kicks the day off to a good start.

Posh party invites also went to Brunel University - I did my first degree (BSc in Economics and Government) at Brunel and I now support them financially - targeting my support towards students from disadvantaged and deprived backgrounds and also funding for the library. At the thank you reception for donors that they hosted today, I gave invites to the Vice-Chancellor and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, all the Brunel students who came and spoke about how much the funding had helped them, and also all the young people at the event. I am going to email the PDF to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor who is then going to send it out across the various student networks. So Brunellians come on down!

I am also going to look into sourcing mentors and placements for Brunel students from the Home Office and PricewaterhouseCoopers - it is the least I can do as a thank you after all that Brunel has done for me.

Brunel - you made me what I am today - you gave me the career that I have today - THANK YOU BRUNEL!

Please could you put the text under the picture under a cut?

[info]rakspatel on March 29th, 2011 12:27 am (UTC)
There is then zero point in having the entry. I will take the picture off.

[info]lunallena_89 on March 29th, 2011 05:35 am (UTC)
There is a point to your entry. As stated in the rules, any posts over 100 words/with a large picture should have a cut, to stop the posts getting too large on the Recent Entry page.

There are no exceptions to the rules. Please amend your post.

[info]rakspatel on March 29th, 2011 10:36 am (UTC)
I have put in the cut.

Seems a shame to put Arthur Conan Doyle's genius writing behind a cut - just my opinion!

And then on her NEXT post, she does the exact same thing!

[info]lunallena_89 on March 28th, 2011 04:43 pm (UTC)
Would you be able to shrink the picture and put the writing under a cut?

[info]rakspatel on March 29th, 2011 12:30 am (UTC)
Putting the writing under a cut means there is no point in having the post.

I will delete the photo.

[info]binglejells on March 29th, 2011 12:00 pm (UTC)
Putting the text under a cut does not undermine the post at all, it just means that friends lists aren't cluttered up with huge walls of text and that my iPhone doesn't lose the will to live when the formatting gets screwed up. The mixture of huge picture (which need only have been shrunk a size or two) and long text is rather domineering. It's just common courtesy - you don't lose anything by using a cut. If you don't know how to resize images, I'd be happy to help you, as would any of the mods, I'm sure!

And in the markcroft comm, she's been told in nearly every one of her posts to put stuff under a cut.

Now that's not so bad. At least she complied fairly quickly in these cases. But the point is... she doesn't seem to have the capacity to learn. D:

It's funny though-in light of all this along with her lj cut problems on cumberbatchfans-she basically got booted from mycrofting for getting argumentative over her post being deleted because she didn't use a cut even after being repeatedly told to use one.
