I'm sure it's happening elsewhere, too.
RPG.net has often been accused of having a Liberal Hive Mind, or being unfriendly towards right-wing posters. Today morgonstjarnan takes a stand against this tyranny by posting a thread titled Superman & socialist self-loathing to Other Media.

So I just read that Superman is going to abandon his American citizenship. He's going to announce it to the UN (!) at about the same time as Syria joins the human rights council. Best timing ever? But I guess someone had to replace Libya.....

It's both sad and fascinating to watch the American cultural suicide from afar. Like a trainwreck: You know it's wrong, but you can't look away.

Guess the only difference here is that the train driver and half the passengers are shouting gleefully "Crash it! Crash it! We deserve it!"

The crowd reacts with mixed confusion and amusement, especially since anyone who even read the link (let alone the comic) knows what’s not what’s going on. Still, morgonstjarnan seems to take Tangency’s negative reaction to his statement to be a clear sign that he’s right.

I'll see if I can help. "It really sucks that the second someone doesn't agree with socialist values, they all gang up together to denigrate, bully, and insult the poor sucker dumb enough not to conform to the red collective." Does that get you hot?

There’s also an odd segue where he has some…uncommon interpretations of “The Last Temptation of Christ”, as well as the main character himself.

True. It's blatantly obvious where the money is, and how it is avoided. If socialists had been interested in actually selling stuff, they'd do pro-America war movies and pro-Christian movies. Instead we get Lions for Lambs, the Green Zone, and the Last Temptation of Christ. Can't blame the darlings for not being ideologically pure, at least.

I think the whole argument that if the Last Temptation of Christ is not Christian, then the Bible isn't either is pretty ridiculous. Scorsese wanted to turn Jesus into a liberal wet dream, and the box office scores showed the result. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Las...m)#Controversy
Now, you can argue about it back and forth. I don't really care, I'm not Christian and the whole conservative/liberal thing is so silly. My reply to the post was simply agreeing that socialists don't seem to want to make money, or they'd make pro-Christian movies instead of magical dreams of Jesus being naughty.

I'm not familair with the LA political scene. I'm familiar with Christian Democrats, Social Liberals, Liberal Conservatism, Liberals (not US ones), Green environmentalists, social democrats, socialists, and both the extreme left and the extreme right. And I can't imagine anyone but socialists, Islamists, or the extreme left purposefully throw away their Swedish citizenship to avoid offending Iran.

First, it's kind of odd comparing Christian values with Superman, who I seem to recall was created by individuals who weren't Christian. Right? And let's be honest here, Jesus was a hell of lot more than some wacky love guru. He predicted eternal, burning hell for sinners. He told people to rip out their own eye if it sinned. And I'm pretty sure when it comes to Iran, he'd say without a doubt that when they die, since they didn't go through him, they're all condemned to the fires.

And secondly, look.. if you can't even agree that flying in to the UN (are you having trouble "accepting" it is corrupt?) and renouncing his US citizenship is an incredibly powerful, symbolic gesture there's not a whole lot more we can talk about.

Of course it turns out to have all been a big social experiment—but he was still right, you know.

Actually, I posted the other thread more as an experiment than anything else. Why?

I read the "Superman about to make wingnuts go crazy" thread. Yeah, I usually stay out of Tangency-related things since I know how rabidly hostile some lefties are to political disagreement even if otherwise decent people. Anyway, the OP was virtually bouncing around in glee at how righties will seethe at yet another (perceived?) insult, after Black Panther called some old protesters who want smaller government (and some sort of tea?) racists. This is followed by much nodding and calm discussion, and some link here or there to some "wingnut" at a right-wing version of HuffPo taking offense.

So I figure, I try and make a mirror post from some Greg Gutfeld perspective and we see what happens. 5 pages of hate. And me being accused of being a Pat Buchanan fan. So I popped back in and said nope, not a fan of the extreme right. More hatred ensues. Insults, ignores, being called an idiot, swear words, strawmen arguments, words taken out of context, etc.

I'm not sure if its a conscious, methodical bullying or simply ignorance, but non-lefties are routinely getting their values, ideas, culture bashed on here. It is taken for granted that HuffPo is good and the Daily Telegraph evil. Try to turn the tables and the sheer rage and attempts at degradation are staggering. Years ago I posted a thread about how Margaret Thatcher was great, and that people shouldn't talk about pissing on her grave (they did). 70 pages of hatred followed (despite not a single reply from me).

Of course there are exceptions. This thread's discussion turned out rather nicely despite the premise. Thanks for that, it is more appreciated than you know. Now time for sleep.

The mods, who while competent and gracious often have a habit of spoiling the fun, are quick to evict him after this revelation. The Trouble Tickets thread also reveals this isn’t his first violation.

Silly Superman trolls. Don’t they know it’s Captain America who’s commanded to wank?
