Gay Blasphemous Inter-species Love win polls; Internet shocked
SpoilerTV.com is running a poll for "Favorite TV Romantic Couple"; recently they had a playoff poll (I think that's what it's called) to determine who would take the last 5 spots, and what's this? Why, it includes Dean Winchester and Castiel from Supernatural!

Don't watch the show? Dean is a demon hunter who shoots monsters in the face with rock salt, and Castiel is the gruff-voiced grumpy trench coat-wearing angel who gripped Dean tight and raised him from perdition, and no, they are not a canon couple. Oh, sure, there was that time that Castiel fell from Heaven for Dean, or that time he sank the Titanic to keep Dean (and Sam) safe, or that time he said that he and Dean shared a "profound bond", or that time the other angel said that Castiel was, quote, "in love with [Dean]," but they're not together. Dean is resolutely heterosexual and Castiel is a nervous virgin who can't cell phone.

Some commentors at SpoilerTV are shocked and appalled that a non-canon slash couple is included in a "Favorite Romantic TV Couples" poll.

CallusedSilk: "If people ship it, it's a real ship." Really?

So Sam/Dean is real? Oh and if you look up bible fanfiction, the fact that people ship Judas/Jesus, that makes that real too?

Wow, I did comment on that and I pointed out the flaws in it already.

Oh and by the way, Dean's sexuality pretty much has been confirmed. He's straight. Not gay. I will admit that Castiel hasn't really been shown in many sexual situations.

Which ships up there are non-canon other than Castiel and Dean (by the way, giving it an obnoxious name doesn't make it real either)? Point them out to me. I admit I don't know all the ships up there, but quite a few of them actually happened within the show they're in.

sharonally: Dean and Castiel ? there isnt a Dean and Castiel romantic anything good lord . I will not be voting for that . Much better choices .

h k: I so wanna see you Destiel Lovers after they kick Cas out of the show!!!(not that I'd be happy either!) I'm not against Homosexuality but u should respect the other fans that are watching supernatural & aren't fans of Homosexuality. Destiel is something that fandom made(like Wincest that makes me sick!!! really? brothers?!) & not actually right. u want to write gazillions fictions about Destiel,make manip pics & vids? NP! but don't talk about it as it's a part of the show cause it's not. So Castiel said Dean & him share more profound bound, YEAH! AS FRIENDS! or Balthazar said something about Cas loving Dean? Balthazar always says lots of Nonsense to insult.

I know I'm in the minority(according to votes & all the comments!) but anyway I wanted to express my ideas about this poll!

SeeBrant: I hope you know that you opened a can of worms by allowing cas/dean as a romantic couple in this poll. Their insane shippers, as you can easily tell by their comments, will not rest until they win this. Spn fandom, why so embarrassingly crazy? facepalm

UPDATE 29/04/11: I've just returned home from work to witness the rather embarassing mess for everyone involved that is parts of the comments section. I will stress this is a competition that means nothing to your show, and you can happily go about watching it with different opinions to others. I doubt that the writers of Supernatural or any other show will see this and go "You know what, over on SpoilerTV 3500 people wanna see Dean & Castiel together, so let's do it." Instead of pointless and pathetic moaning, how about heading to a different post or even better recruiting friends of your cause to vote for someone else. The trick with a competition is that often you rout for different sides. What I've read through below will NOT happen again, and if there is more posts/arguments which we deem against site policy and code, we will instantly eliminate the characters from the competition and ban users from the website. Try and take things with a pinch of salt, and more fun.

And then tumblr hears about the poll, and the site is flooded with Dean/Castiel supporters. Dean/Cas wins by a wide margin (43.54% at 4,937 votes - the closest is 10/Rose at 1,186 votes). Detractors accuse them of using bots. SpoilerTV turns the comments off.

As of now, Destiel is in the running to being the Favorite Romantic Couple, and the Supernatural fans on Tumblr are determined to vote them to the final prize, if only in the hopes that Misha Collins and Jensen Ackles will have to accept some sort of award in person.

Edit 2: Wincesters are allegedly voting against Dean/Castiel due to shipping bitterness. As of right now, though, Dean/Cas is beating Dan Humphrey & Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl 3,105 votes to 887.
