Small doujinshi-buying wank It’s mostly over, but worth reading for jessioriginal’s overreactions and complete inability to hear the word ‘no’. Many thanks to the anon on wank_report for the links. Jessioriginal asked for help buying some doujinshi in doujin_market in August. Community member rubicons_closet offers to buy them on her behalf. Despite repeated explanations, Jessioriginal doesn’t understand why she has to send the money first. A few days ago, jessioriginal made a new post claiming that rubicons_closet agreed to help but is now trying to cheat her. Rubicons_closet and other community members are not impressed (post is now deleted, saved post can be downloaded here, selected comments below): Rubicons_closet: I don't want this to get ugly, but first off I offered to help you get the books without charging you a proxy-buyer fee. I explained to you many times my policies and why I have them and I also recommended you get tracking or certification for your letter, and yes, there was a long delay in receiving it. I don't know why, but there was. I explained the hold time and I told you about when it would clear and yet you kept asking to me to rush the payment ahead of the money order clearing which I ended up doing because I wanted this to be done with. I got charged insufficient funds fees twice, once for trying to pay before the money cleared and again because I had to forward the cash to the seller who opened a dispute because of the rushed payment before the funds could reappear back at my bank which would have taken a whole extra week. I told you several times that I did not want to do this because I was afraid that would happen. I have the notices from my bank and Paypal regarding the automatic cancellation fees they charged. The total fees are more than half what you sent to cover the cost of the books. Since the money has come out of my bank, I won't even have enough to cover my rent which is up this week. I told you I can take the money out of my paycheck next week or so if I have enough and refund you the money back because I know there's no way you want to pay to cover the fees. The only other option is that we negotiate out the fees. I may be willing to cover some of them, but this is a lot of money. For whatever reason, the seller was fairly adamant about the price she wanted for the books so I wasn't able to negotiate a price much lower than what you asked for and I needed the price to be low enough that I could cover the shipping to you. She is sending out the books tomorrow. I can send you the tracking number if you want if/when I get it. I don't know what else to do. I asked you to be patient about the funds clearing several times since that was beyond my control. Imaginenot: To be honest OP you sounds a bit like you have no idea what you are doing. And it sounds like you have never bought doujinshi before. To be it sounds like the person who agreed to help you out has gone above and beyond for you. I would recommend everyone to read the other post linked to in this entry. Ariseishirou: From what I read she's already gone out of her way tremendously to help you, which she was under absolutely no obligation to do. If I were you I would just chill. Otherwise, if I were her, I would refund your money and not bother with your books at all at this point ... Your actions and behaviour are completely unacceptable. I would have terminated the contract the moment you tried to get me to accept a money order that does not have my name on it, which is not legal tender. And then it turns out that jessioriginal has pulled this kind of stunt before: Vampirenaomi: I'm not one bit surprised that this happened. I regret that I didn't comment on your original post to share my misgivings about this whole deal. Maybe rubicons_closet wouldn't be in so much trouble then. For those reading this comment, here's my little contribution to this mess. I and jessioriginal used to have each other added on MSN because we had read a few of each other's fanfics. She contacted me out of the blue the day she made her original post and asked if I could buy her the doujins this whole thing is about. I said no because I don't do things like that for strangers and because I'm in Europe, so she wouldn't have been able to pay me back with a money order. I mentioned to her that I had recently had a transaction with the seller she was having trouble with and that I had experienced no problems. She then pressured me into contacting the seller on her behalf and vouching for her. I said no repeatedly because it made me uncomfortable to lie to the seller and claim that I was a friend of jessioriginal, but eventually I gave in and did it. I received a very polite reply from the seller, saying that the problems between her and jessioriginal were between the two of them. I thought that was the end of it, but jessioriginal kept bugging me into harassing the seller even more. Unfortunately I didn't save our MSN conversation, but she explicitly asked me to lie to the seller to make her look better. That was the point when I blocked her from MSN. I'm really sad to see that the situation has now developed to this. I have never in my life dealt with a person who is this incapable of taking no for an answer and seeing things from anyone else's perspective than hers. The mod deleted the post but included screencaps in a community housekeeping post made two days later. There has been no news on whether the issue has been resolved. (I tried to upload the screencaps to an image hosting site but had no luck, so I placed them on Megaupload as backup.) Post a comment in response: |
