So here's what you missed on kurt_blaine...
Many thanks to the anon on wank_report for this one; I've used some of your wording in this post. (Note: there are spoilers for an upcoming episode of Glee in the links.)

Pyroclastic, one of the wankier BNF's of the Glee fandom and a former mod of the kurt_blaine community on lj, posts a fic to said community. The drama starts in the first thread when she pretends not to know why a mod has asked her to place the spoilers in her author notes behind a cut:

boysinperil: …Just remove all the references to [the spoiler], or delete the whole thing and just post it on tumblr, because I'm tired of your being thick about this. You helped WRITE the spoiler rules, you know them.

Then windrider1967 leaves a review:

Beautiful, if a bit too polished. Still wonderfully done and sweet and hot at the same time

Pyroclastic does not like this review. She complains on her Tumblr. Even though she blacks out windrider’s name, it’s easy enough for everyone to figure out who wrote the comment.

Naderegen points out that it's mostly a compliment and the concrit isn't slamming the fic, but pyroclastic is not appeased.

Canniblaine tells windrider that pyroclastic and her minions are mocking her. Said minions then make an appearance.

Pyroclastic complains to the mods, who agree to screen the more problematic comments while also letting her know she’s pretty much working their last nerve:

Rebootuniverse: ...You know what, you're not stupid, you knew exactly what you did when you made that post, and you knew exactly what would follow. Pretend to be the innocent one all you want, but you just can't take any actual negative commentary about what you write. There are a million other ways you could have gone about asking the reviewer what they meant before making that post, even if you couldn't open the community. A dozen other choices you could have made other than one that was bordering on insulting to the reviewer and dismissive that there might be something other than a positive opinion to your fic.

Bottom line is, you react to things as if you're better than every other person on the comm, and if half of the things you say on tumblr were said here we would have had to ban you by now. But we don't, because we don't ban people for things they say and do on other communities.

Rebootuniverse comments on the entire situation on her Tumblr and receives anonymous attacks in response. (For some reason, jf won't let me create a link for this one: http://rebootuniverse.tumblr.com/post/11119180193/fucking-delete-canniblaine-and-ban-them-you-biased). There are also messages of support and people wanting to know why pyroclastic hasn't been banned yet; everything can be found on her Twitter.

Two other critical reviews are left on the fic but haven't resulted in the same kind of response (as far as I can tell). And to round it all off, the glee_anon threads on the situation are here and here.

ETA: It gets wankier: http://gleewank.tumblr.com/post/10332827277/the-epic-saga-of-p-and-her-pa-attitude

I like realism even for porn. I’ve always been the kind of writer who has to have stories grounded in reality, who researches for hours for throw-away lines. Maybe to some that’s “too polished” but to me it’s the difference between being an amateur hobbyist and a professional.

No, actually; the difference is in taking a professional attitude towards criticism - either by accepting that it might be right, or by deciding that it's completely wrong and just letting it go. It's only amateurs who turn around and try to strike down their critics with devastating argument; professionals simply don't need to.

(And all those paranoid paid authors who do so are being unprofessional and could learn a lesson from a great many unpaid ones who don't.)

Blaine’s cock looks like– well, it looks like a cock, actually.

The whole fic was rather clinical and boring until this line. I laughed through the rest of it.

Somehow the whole, "but my beta is MAJORING IN ENGLISH" thing totally makes it for me.

Probably because most of the English majors I knew in undergrad seemed to suffer from the same things that fic does, at least in terms of stylistic mistakes. :P

My undergraduate minor was in Creative Writing, and it boggled me how many English majors in those classes wrote the most pretentious, nonsensical, barely-coherent garble.

English major =/= good writer.

Heck, I have an MA in English and I couldn't identify a dangling participle or a modifier if my life depended on it.

So when I was in undergrad, the grad student TAing for my intro level English course that was mandatory for the major refused to use proper grammar 90% of the time. All my papers were covered in notes void of capitalization and punctuation, and they ran on for miles. I want to believe he was just high or drunk or something when correcting papers, but he wasn't entirely coherent and on topic during sections. So maybe he was intoxicated all the time?

I want to understand the "too polished" criticism, but the fic is in present tense. I hate fiction written in present tense. So I skimmed it, and this stood out: I want it to be special because I love you so much that I have to show you or I’ll explode

That's -- that's pretty bad. And the afterplay conversation about bananas is also pretty bad. I'm not feeling any emotional reality here.

And then there's this: Kurt lines his cock up to Blaine’s hole and pauses to watch his boyfriend. This is his last time seeing Blaine, the virgin. This is the last time he is Kurt, the virgin.

They have had oral sex already. 1) There is no "hymen" analogue in the anus, it will get just as tight again if it's not penetrated for a while. 2) Not having penetrated or not having been penetrated does not equal virginity. 3) Lines his cock up to Blaine's hole? The body is not a peg box!

So I still don't really get "too polished", but it's certainly lacking in real human behavior and emotions.

Here's windrider's explanation of her 'polished' comment:

What I meant by "too polished" is that NO ONE's first time is that sweet and perfect and without mishaps and misteps and major embarassment. I can picture these two making jokes over who put the condom where, elbows in the wrong places, etc ... GOD I WISH MINE WENT THAT SMOOTH, and that was with WEEKS of planning and detailed talking etc ...

Completely agreed with your comment, especially the part about how penetration is 'real' sex.

This is his last time seeing Blaine, the virgin. This is the last time he is Kurt, the virgin.

I just noticed the icon in this comment" and couldn't stop laughing. Fandom moves fast!

To be charitable, modern teenaged boys might put more weight on 'real sex' = 'penetration of a crotch-hole with a penis', and the narration may reflect the character's view of virginity, rather than the author's view.

On the other hand, I'm not terribly inclined to be charitable towards the author right now.

These kinds of rants always remind me of what my Basic Drawing teacher in university said on our first day: "If you can't take criticism, get out of my classroom, go straight to the registrar, and CHANGE YOUR MAJOR." I loved that class and I have a thick skin now! I wish people could take some concrit these days!

My beta, devonwood is currently getting her English degree and is taking editing courses for her future career as an editor. If you have any issues with her beta work, I invite you to discuss it with her. The ask box of her Tumblr is open to anonymous questions if you don't have an account. I'd like to know exactly what part of this fic needs beta work, since Megan is the best beta I've worked with.

Wow. Wow. Who DOES that?

"Any remaining errors are mine--ha! Just kidding! All errors are my beta's fault! After all, she's an English major, so anything she didn't force me to change is not my problem! Also, I'm not going to credit her in the headers, because she doesn't matter!"

Well, that and the "general cocksluttiness" warning. Because that implies that you can have specific cocksluttiness, and that's a whole other can of dicks worms. (I mean, is he only a slut for dicks that bend to the left? Dicks that are pearled? Dicks with wings on them? What does she mean?)
