Well yes, Bleach fandom DOES wank about non-shippy stuff!
Okay, so the Bleach fandom has been kinda quiet lately. (Either that, or the usual quarrels don't get out of their media). All in all, no real change...

Until chapter 474 happens, with a rather "surprising" twist. [spoilers ahoy, obviously]

Fandom's reaction?

WTF?

KUUUUUUUUUUUUUBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Some tiny jewels are:

debbiechan: You people are way too quick to beLIEve a villain before you have the whole story--just like you were with Isshin and Urahara. Geez. There's no way Ukitake is a VILLAIN. He may have put something into gear but you dare doubt his motives? This is the Isshin/Urahara are the bad guys all over again--another "brocken spotlight" or distortion of perspective and a classic Kubo trick. Look at Kubo's title--it tells you what to "BeLIEve."

shinigamixninja... are you serious??? Ukitake? Our innocent, sickly Shiro captain??? That is just ... unbelievable... But if what Ginjo says is true, then Ukitake is a REALLY great schemer & actor, even better than Aizen! But.... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Pesanteouse
Ukitake!?!? D: I did not see that coming...well I don't think anyone did? :P
But it's kind of the same as Aizen! Both seemed to be really nice in the beginning...and Ukitake was the one that gave Ichigo the badge but didn't tell him about Ginjou (Hitsugaya seemed to think that was strange right?).
Uuuuugh, I wonder if I shall check through every Ukitake moment in the whole manga to find some clues...but maybe Kubo hadn't thought of it then so then it would be very unnecessary >.<'

Saiyan5ninetail: As much as you might be jumping the gun, Bala de Impacto, I worry a bit now for Rukia's position. Ichigo did hear Rukia over the badge, which would mean that Ichigo will know that Rukia is aware of the ulterior functions of the Badge. If these hesitations take hold of Ichigo, he might go on to tell Inoue and Sado about it, which would effectively isolate Rukia from the Nakama. I do not know if Kubo will really go so far, but what if they feel that this is a "betrayal"?

*sigh* If this does turn out to be the case, I can imagine certain groups rubbing it in the fandom's faces.

Chi13iMike (sp?)
The issue I see with Rukia speaking in Ichigo's defense through the badge is that, if she is now aware of the badge's purpose and SS's designs on Ichigo, then she is being rather disturbingly OK with it. Which means that they most likely coerced or convinced her of it's necessity somehow in order to get her to go along with it, and if that's the case, it really does make her suspect. Not because she would knowingly go along with something that would potentially bring harm to Ichigo, but that she may UNKNOWINGLY go along with something that could bring harm to Ichigo.

So, in summary, Ichigo's bonds of friendship may be of the highly f***ed up variety after this arc is over. Inoue and Chad's friendship with Ichigo has been revealed to have limits, and both have shown that given correct circumstances they can and WILL betray Ichigo (of course all while believing they are in the right. This is the true terror of the BotE since Tsukishima never directly controled either of them, he simply inserted himself into a position of JUST enough importance so that both of them to demonstrate that neither of them are really on Ichigo's side "no matter what"), the same was done with his family and friends (though to a lesser degree, but it once again showed that his friends really do have a limits on their belief in him). Now Ichigo's faith in the shinigami and SS (and thus Rukia, his main nakama and ally) is being shaken as well with this newest revelation.

Really, the only one left that he can really trust anymore is pretty much Ishida (I hope for an Ishi/Ichi vs. the World scenario). Of course we all know that these bonds will be mended, but more and more I am beginning to suspect/hope that this arc really WILL have more dire and long term consiquences than I originally thought. And that makes me very happy.

And wank report has its own thoughts on this. (Warning, some parts might be toeing into unfunny)

[runs out of popcorn. Still, NOT-shipping Bleach wank was VERY needed]

then Ukitake is a REALLY great schemer & actor, even better than Aizen!

I don't remember enough of BLEACH to understand their complete disbelieve of this plot twist (I don't think I'm familiar with who Ukitake *is* actually) but when the fans said something like this another "brocken spotlight" or distortion of perspective and a classic Kubo trick it sounds like they still believe (sorry, "BeLIEve.") Kubo Tite actually plans ahead O.o

I thought we've established by now that he's just pulling 'plot' out of thin air?

When you're spitting out a chapter a week and your series isn't HunterxHunter (or Gintama where you thrive in half-assing it) then I whole heartedly agree that the planning only goes so far and somewhere along the way it will end like Lost.

As far as I can see, people are acting really GASP SURPRISED SHOCK that a superpowered 17-year-old shonen manga lead like Ichigo would have the Shinigami (his supposed allies) keeping tags on him due to such powers. And the one behind it is the closest that one of the female leads, Rukia, has to a direct boss - Ukitake, who's regarded as one of the nicest guys in the whole Bleach series. The one who told Ichigo about it is Ginjo, the current antagonist.. Hence why so many people are all NOOOOOOOOO, WTF, WTF, WTF.

Oh wow, I visit FW after a long while and voila! Bleach wank! *embraces it*

He may have put something into gear but you dare doubt his motives?

Um, look, debbiechan. He's not real. He's written by a guy named Kubo Tite who is not known for his consistent, well planned out storytelling. (Remember Ishida and Mayuri? Yeah.)

This is the true terror of the BotE since Tsukishima never directly controled either of them, he simply inserted himself into a position of JUST enough importance so that both of them to demonstrate that neither of them are really on Ichigo's side "no matter what")

Ugh. So Tsukishima (Tsukushima? What is he called again?) replacing the person who protected and raised Chad & Orihime in their memories = "inserting himself into a position of JUST enough importance..." And of course when Ichigo tries to hurt this person and they don't want him to, it's proof that they're not really on Ichigo's side because they don't believe him unconditionally. Riiiight.

And as much as I appreciate the Ichigo&Ishida interaction, the only reason Ishida is not against strawberry boy is that Tsukishima never cut him. What manga are these people reading?

Also, I don't get the gnashing of teeth over Rukia. Even if she knowingly went along with it - doesn't it make sense for Soul Society to keep tabs on an insanely powerful and unpredictable guy like Ichigo?

Also, what do you mean no shippy stuff. :D;;
*sigh* If this does turn out to be the case, I can imagine certain groups rubbing it in the fandom's faces.

D-DON'T BREAK MY ILLUSIONS?! ;A; Though more seriously, I DID like how the wank for once was less ship-centered (bleachopinions on tumblr is more than enough for it now) and more about LOL PLOTKAI and stuff. Having Saiyan try make it about pairings had me go all OH NO STFU THIS TIME.

Um, look, debbiechan. He's not real. He's written by a guy named Kubo Tite who is not known for his consistent, well planned out storytelling. (Remember Ishida and Mayuri? Yeah.)

I know! The arrogance of such statement by Debbie is freaking mindblowing, specially considering how she insists that SHE and her group are the ones in tune with ~authorial intent~ while pulling sutff outta their asses.

Ugh. So Tsukishima (Tsukushima? But don't you knooooooooow. Chad and Orihime are second-rate friends and horrible traitors, Ishida is the only one who understaaaaaaands. /barfs

I'm still boggled they managed to bring shipping into this. Although I have to admit I got a good chuckle knowing that once they realized that was why Rukia was coming in over Ichigo's badge (and not because he's obsessed with her or wtfever they decided it meant for their True Love), the wanksplosion would be enormous.

What I don't get is the GINJOU SAID SOMETHING I DON'T LIKE, HE MUST BE LYING mindset I keep seeing all over the fandom now. What Ginjou said wasn't that bad, and Ukitake (and the rest of SS) would've had to be plumb stupid to let an overpowered 15 year old run around with an out of control hollow and enough power to take out two shinigami Captains. Also, Soul Society being made up of dicks is not a thing that ever stopped being true. Even Rukia isn't this winsome adorable moe poppet like they seem to think - she knows how to pull the lead out when the rubber hits the road.

It's also funny that they conveniently forgot the only slightly minor plot point that Ginjou had Tsukishima use BoTE on him in the first place specifically because he's an admittedly shitty liar. You also have no fewer than Urahara, Isshin, and Ishida going "Oh shit, he's going to tell Ichigo the truth". Then again, it's Bleach and Debbie says absolutely everyone lies all the time, so it must be true!

I have never read Bleach in my life, but Higurashi is one of the best things. Ever.

Thanks to [info]ladyofviolets for the summary...I wonder if it's actually true? I am also one of those people who think super nice people are potentially totally evil. Well, yeah. Shounen manga is about facing the difficulties of growing up by punching them in the face. A friendly authority figure turning out to be lying and making plans for you behind your back is a huge crisis for a growing boy. One that needs to be solved by face-punching.

Late post is late, but yeah. The Gotei 13 are full of dicks, but this makes sense to keep tabs on a fifteen year old loose canon.

I can see Ichigo being upset with Rukia for keeping it from him, but most of fandom forgets that she's still a Shinigami and now an officer.

I'm just going to paste a link to my comment at Bleachness on LJ. Copy pasta:

Okay, like I said to a friend on AIM:

A few theories poking around my head -

1) Yes, the badge is a monitoring and suppression device. This is imminently practical and makes sense if you think about the fact that Ichigo is a taichou level shinigami and has bankai.
2) Taichous/fukutaichous are monitored and limited in the Mortal World, why wouldn't someone like Ichigo also be?
3) They gave the duty to Ukitake for several reasons:
- a) He's kind. Anyone he executed, it would be a swift, merciful death.
- b) He's not reactionary. If he went out to kill someone, it would need doing. See point a).

Now onto Ishida:

1) I wonder if he didn't have something to do with Ichigo getting his powers back. He lost his for a time and was bereft without them. Immediately after they were returned to him, he went into the fight in Hueco Mundo. He knows what Ichigo is going through right now and may be trying to get Ichigo to think rather than react.
2) I also wonder if perhaps he hasn't forgiven the shinigami (after all, he and Renji formed a bromance, and he made that dress for Rukia) but maybe understands that there might be a place for the Quincys and the shinigami in the world.
3) Perhaps his yelling at Ichigo is the beginning formation of another Isshin/Ryuuken relationship? Ryuuken genuinely seems to care not only for Uryuu, but also for Isshin. Uryuu might be maturing and seeing that all shinigami are not Kurotsuchi Mayuri.

...that doesn't sound that farfetched, actually. Wasn't Aizen a "nice guy" at first too?
