More IMdB message board wank. Once again it's Alexander the Great, except this time the Oliver Stone version instead of the Luhrmann.

Person A: Was Alexander gay?
Person B: From what I've read *cites sources*, he loved Hepaestion above women.
Person C: You need to read some older stuff!! I'm Greek and we have to study this in school and there's no serious document that says he was "gay or bio-sexual" [direct quote] so don't be an undereducated moron blah blah blah, etc.

And then they mock each other's spelling, and there's Abraham Lincoln references (along the same lines that the anti-RPSers bring in the Nazi references) and lots of "yeah, well I studied at Oxford!", and then someone makes a post consisting of "Dear above: Eat me".

IMdB: Where you don't even have to look for the wank. It just spontaneously appears whenever someone might be gay.

Bah, anyone who's seen his outfits in Reign knows that he had to be bio-sexual.

I love how as soon as someone called stamoz on the "bio-sexual" mistake, he turns around and tells that person to "read some more comics and leave the rest of us alone from your thoughts".

Ah, yes. To be accused of being a comic book geek is such an insult.

I know I'm reeling. I've had to cover my entire body with old X-Factor issues to hide my shame.

Just a quick question:

How wanky are the IMdB message boards? Do they produce wank as fresh and fruitful as the boards at Mega Tokyo, or any given board on Harry Potter?

I was going to argue that IMdB was as wanky as a barrel full of wank, but while I was searching for wank to back my theory up I found this.

What can I say? I'm easily distracted.

MAGNETO: I'm angry that Mystique try to put the moves on Wolverine.

PYRO: Do you want me to fry her?

MAGNETO: No, you stay here! I'm going to go find her. Don't play with your lighter, I don't have any more lighter fluid here! I'll pick some up.

*Sniff* ... so poignant ...

Though, now I want to see some hot MAN1 on MAN2 action...

It depends on if you have the stamina to actually read them. This Alexander debate is the exact same one they had over on the Baz version's board a few months ago, except that one started out with people whining about casting and it turned into the "gay vs. NOT GAY" debate, whereas this one jumped right in with the gay, and ended up being the teacher and the Greek guy fighting about Macedonia.

fighting about Macedonia. And really isn't that what all intellectual fights are about?

Macedonia? Isn't that some sort of nut? Why would you argue over nuts?

(Or is my english getting hilariously off-base again? If so... d'oh.)

Dude how much evidence does one NEED to be gay? Is there a form you have to fill out? Do they make you take a test? Can they restrict you're anal sex privliages if you fail?

I mean should Alexander have signed a document saying 'Yes I suck cock?'

Icz

I mean should Alexander have signed a document saying 'Yes I suck cock?'

But that would take all the fun out of arguing about his sexuality!

And what translation system would they have used on the forms so that Richard the Lionheart could sign them? ^.^

This is just...wow...I mean, who the hell cares if Alexander the Great was gay, bi or whatever? That is such a small small part of his historical significance.

Then again, while I am interested in the personality behind the hisotrical figure, I think overall, his sexual orientation is not that big a deal unless I'm reading a historical novel...then that might be important.

Given ancient Greek culture and his own situation, it's very likely he was bisexual. So what?

Now I'm babbling...am going away now.

Alexander was abio-sexual. He loved oxygen and light far more than women and lifelong friends cum homosexual lovers.

My country says so.

*B.A. in Classical Studies from Prestigious American University (cum laude) steps up to mic*

*taps*

*clears throat*

He was gay.

Okay, so to expound...this is the wankiest bit of shite I've seen in a while, just because the sheer level of pseudo-intellectualism is so very stunning. The 'Moral Fighter' guy, whom one can only assume sees himself as some Mortal Kombat-esque champion of Greek right wing values (?!), doesn't have a fucking clue what he's talking about, and has obviously never read any Plutarch, or Arrian. Sadly, the Professor Belvedere fellow, who seems to be doing his best, isn't much of a scholar either.

MF, my dear deluded man, there is a thing called linguistic drift. Look into it. PB, stop citing other people's online term papers and cite the original, otherwise you look like an idiot.

Hee, Classics wank. Could my day start out any better? Now what I really want is someone to slash Demetrius Poliorcetes. Anyone? Anyone? *sigh*

Can you back that up please, with actual ancient texts and wall graffiti and statues? I mean, at the prestigious Canadian universities where I took Classical Studies, the subject never came up, so it must be true that Alexander the Great was actually asexual not bio-sexual or anything sexual. I mean, if the professor didn't bring it up at all...then it must be true!

I actually went looking for my Plutarch this morning (specifically The Age of Alexander, but alas, it is not on any of my shelves as it should be. The only thing staring at me was Arrian's Campaigns of Alexander, which is (improbably enough given the subject matter) the most boring work in the entire world and sends me fleeing in tears.

I had some very cool Classics proffs (almost all women) who had no problem discussing homosexuality and its place in the ancient Hellenistic world, and in Alexander's life in particular. In my Alexander and the Successor States class, we spent a whole class period gossipping about the sex lives of Alexander and his successors. The Ptolemaid in particular were a randy lot, iirc. *grin*

I will poke about and see if I can find what I'm looking for online or in some of my other textbooks. *dusts off ten year old books*
