Mini Gamer Wank
The top-secret reveal of the week came on Monday.

There's going to be a Bayonetta 2.

Fans rejoiced!

Except... it's going to be exclusively on the Nintendo Wii U.

That... doesn't go over so well.

In fact - the creators themselves have to issue an explanation. Yowza.

Kotaku collects their favorite rage!Tweets here, plus more comments but my personal favorite is a blog here created specifically to tell everyone how to STICK IT TO THE MAN by buying the system and game used.

But my favorite comment so far comes from this tumblr and is essentially:

Gamers: We want mature exclusives on the Wii U!
Nintendo: Here's Bayonetta 2 exclusive for the Wii U!
Gamers: FUCK YOU FOR STEALING THAT GAME!

I already watched my friend rage over this on Facebook because she's a PS fangirl through her husband. It was hilarious and sad.

Personally, I'm not opposed to it, except that LoL is eating my life, so I'll never get around to playing it. :(

It all depends on how the game is played and if they make me used that silly TV-in-a-controller thing.

That character design is hilarious, especially the glasses.

I'm just surprised/pleased there is going to be a Bayonetta 2. If it's got more ridiculous boss fights and cutscenes, I am so on board with watching YouTube clips of it.

I wonder if it will remain exclusive to WiiU or go the way of past exclusives - eg. Resident Evil 4. Either way, the sinister plot to buy the game and system used and the declarations of hate/death threats are all very special, each in their own way.

I tend to think this game will, if only because it sounds like Nintendo "saved" the series. If it becomes profitable though... who knows.

Yeah, that's what I got from this too - Nintendo stepped in when Sega bowed out so there will now be a Bayonetta 2. I can see why fans are pissed off, but at least there will be a second one. I am curious as to whether making it exclusive for either of the other two consoles was ever an option. I don't know enough about the process to make an educated guess, but Bayonetta did have solid sale figures on XBox and Playstation.

This reminds me of when Samurai Warriors 3 was announced for Wii only (wank included). The series only ever sold well enough on PS and Xbox so Koei popped it over to Nintendo thinking the broader install base would help them out. It didn't, and they ended up porting to PS3 anyway. When Sengoku Basara 3 came out for PS3 and Wii the PS3 version outsold its brother by three or four times. There are more people that own Wiis but they're not necessarily the ones buying action games.

Figured P* especially would have learned that after Mad World...

I didn't like Bayonetta and wouldn't get the sequel no matter what platform it's on, but I think they're making a mistake here.

I haven't liked SW3 that much but that has to do more with portability than with the game itself - I like SWC just fine except for the fact that Ranmaru is only on one map and everywhere else you have to clear to use him which defeats the point.

From my understanding though, and what I think a lot of people are missing is that this wasn't a choice - from the stories about Sega having to reshuffle its departments, Nintendo could either sponsor production with the promise of an exclusive, or this game wasn't getting made at all.

It's going to be really interesting because from the sound of it, production costs are really starting to determine what, if any non "popular" games will get made.

Ah, good point. Though I still feel bad for P*. I can't imagine this exclusive will do well, and the bad press is the last thing they need (And I certainly don't have a problem with there not being a B2).

*Ranmaru solidarity fistbump*

I'm sure they're glad to at least get the game out but who knows. It gives Nintendo "mature" credit so overall I see it as a win-win for both parties.

JFC - srsly, the later chapters where my characters are up against hordes of enemies and all I can think of is "IF RANMARU WERE HERE THIS WOULD BE EASY!" And 95% prettier.

From what I've heard, the wank over Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is as bad, if not worse: Nintendo's getting jumped on by those who hate FPS games in general, those who are on the opposite side of the CoD/Battlefield fight, and the usual gang of Nintendo haters.

And yet both GameStop and Best Buy have stopped taking preorders on Wii U so I don't feel too bad for Nintendo.

I have a good friend who's a big CoD fan. And somehow we always have theoretical Pokemon versus CoC arguments. He's all about killing Pikachu.

They can't win. Last generation their problem was a lack of enthusiastic third party support- now they're actually having some success getting other companies and franchises on board and that makes them bad.

Mmm, sometimes I think to myself that gamer fanboy rage is the tastiest kind of wank.

Personally I can't wait to see Yahtzee review this game because a) he usually dislikes sequels, b) he usually hates games on the Wii, c) he extra hates when hardcore games get made for the Wii, but d) he also loves pissing off rabid fanboys and subverting their expectations. Plus he had a meh opinion of the first game, so I could see him going either way on this one.

a blog here created specifically to tell everyone how to STICK IT TO THE MAN by buying the system and game used

Or they could stick it to the man by just not buying or playing the game at all. Oh wait, that would be sensible.

So they're either going to wait two years or more or pay triple price for the system? If this is anything like the Wii, being able to get your hands on a system at the sticker price is going to be difficult enough in at least the first year.

I ordered my Wii online from gamestop a few months after it came out originally. If you go for the bundles it tends to be easier to get a system from gamestop (Did the same thing with my original PS2). And there will most likely be "used systems" in other words stolen for sale at places like Moving Trading company.

I worked at Gamestop when the Wii came out. Pre-orders were closed more than months in advance, and when it came out, after pre-orders were filled, we had about 5 per week trickle in, all of which were gone within half an hour. I was offered ridiculous sums of money to put them aside for customers, which I didn't take because none of the people offered me enough to lose my job for a reason that would stick on my record.

Once we had more like 12 per week come in, they were still gone within the first hour or two. We never had Wii systems that sat in the back room while I worked there (which was until about a year after the Wii came out), and our store was prioritized above most others in the district for getting the systems. Meanwhile, we had PS3s gathering dust every single week, including the first week they came out.

Anyone who steals a Wii U system when they first come out and doesn't sell it for at least triple sticker price is a fool.

Hey, just saying I got my Wii from Gamestop online pretty easily about three months after it came out when all the stores were still sold out. If you don't mind having it shipped to you its the way to go. -shrugs-

And with selling it? It just might be they just want a quick buck. Seriously that's why most hot stuff gets sold to movie trading company because its easier and less risky than selling it yourself. :/

I dunno, maybe I'm just a cynical gamer these days but I can't imagine the WiiU capturing the imagination like the original Wii did. For casual gamers who already have a Wii, they're not going to care about HD graphics and the new "gimmick" isn't something super-intuitive. Wii Sports was the linchpin to the Wii's success, but NintendoLand isn't even going to be bundled with the "basic" version of the WiiU. WTF?

I think kids being able to play the tablet while their parents watching TV will be big and I really want to see what, if anything, can happen with the tablet being portable and being able to interact / dl from hotspots all around but I don't know. I don't think it will be as lucrative as the Wii but I definitely don't see it as being a flop. Cost-wise it's bound to beat out Microsoft and Sony, and Sony's hurting a lot more than Nintendo these days.

Yeah, just the new TV stuff alone is pretty impressive, from what I've seen, and lots of casual users use their Wii for TV. If they market that heavily, and I don't see why they wouldn't, then I can totally see casual users buying it just on the basis of being able to use this one piece of hardware to watch a show live while tweeting about it while also getting stats about it, oh and also it's got a built-in DVR, oh and also you can get TV and movie listings from all the services to which you subscribe in one place with listings that are personalized for each user in household, and then you can get those personalized listings to cross-reference each other so that you can, say, select everyone who's in the room from your user list and have it return a list of available shows/movies that fit the interests of everyone in the room.

I'm a Nintendo fangirl, so I'd end up getting it anyway, but I'm probably going to end up saving money on other TV stuff by doing it, and plus I'll get a better service overall, so I'm super excited.

The idea of being able to play a console game without having to sit in front of the television is really good for me because I tend to be so busy multitasking that it's so, so much easier to be able to move around with a system in my hands than a controller. (It's rare that I not have my 3DS with me nowadays)
Plus the idea of not having controls / maps / etc. on the tablet so the screen is completely uncluttered? Hell yes I am down with that!

Also love love LOVE this post (from the writeup) where the blogger instructs people to use unbearably fallacious "retorts" against the people who aren't mad enough.

I have spent the weekend at a gaming expo and one of the panels was called "The Hour of Love." People could ask about any word or phrase and the panelists (two outspoken game reviewers, an outspoken movie and game reviewer) would have to respond only with loving things about it. There were a lot of gritted teeth and dry backhanded compliments and it was fantastic fun.

And somehow no one asked about the Wii U. Someone did ask about Bayonetta, but it was more in context of the character than the game or the system it was/will be on. I'm still shocked about that.

I wonder how many of these people don't even have a Wii (U or otherwise), or any intention to get one, and were simply offended by the existence of such a "baby" console in the market... wanted it to "grow up" so it would stop embarrassing them, like the tag-along kid sibling... and now, to their horror, find that it has something they want, and they have to be nice to it.
