How Misha Collins ruined Christmas
Writeup by mousie:

GISHWHES ends. Only a few days later, close enough to piggyback off the residual crazy, Misha launches christmaswillneverbethesame.com and a Twitter account, @HairyBumble, a homage to the Abominable Snowman from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, which featured cryptic and disturbing messages that the fandom tried to interpret with little to no luck. The site itself was just an image of the Snow Miser from one of those old Christmas movies and the text: "From the 'Mind' that brought you GISHWHES...A special holiday event!" There was also a countdown. (Pics/better explanation in this tumblr post: http://nerdylittledude.tumblr.com/post/36263744169/what-is-christmas-will-never-be-the-same)
People that entered their email address got one "get ready!" sort of mass email from Misha.

When the timer ran out at 1 pm EST Nov. 21, the site changed to a guessing game for the event title. (Pic in previous link). The clues were vague and made little to no sense once the actual title was revealed, even when the main site's reveal was postponed and more clues given. Fandom whined, minorly.

Finally, the site was revealed: Stonehenge Christmas was the event name! (Pics at previous link)
Here's where the real wank starts: People get angry about the fact you have to pay ($7.77 for streaming the movie Stonehenge Apocalypse with Misha watching too, then a huge jump to ~80 for the stream and a signed poster, and minimum 100 for a *chance* to interact with Misha during the livestream, plus the poster, though this was going to go the way ofan auction, so it would have been pretty damn expensive).

People start posting ~feelings posts~ in all the tags (see: http://spiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikey.tumblr.com/post/36276445520/reasons-why-im-upset-about-stonehenge-christmas) and others are disappointed but try to rationalize: http://deanscookieattitude.tumblr.com/post/36272611836/about-the-money-factor-for-mishas-christmas-will

Others feel betrayed because there's no indication that the money's going to Random Acts, Misha's charity- it might be *gasp*- going straight to his pockets!!! Some people wanted an interactive event like GISHWHES, and think this is stupid and not what they expected, especially due tot he links to GISHWHES.
This escalates into apparent hate-tweets and extremely nasty comments directed at Misha. Within hours, the site is down, and Misha's (secretary? imaginary friend?) Miss Jean Louis posts this on twitter:
http://niraha.tumblr.com/post/36340300812/anyone-else-notice-this-i-have-a-feeling-its
People start apologizing and condemning the hate that was rampant only minutes before: http://angelinanimpala.tumblr.com/post/36327472046/the-post-i-just-reblogged-made-me-cry-theres-a
Some hold out hope for CWNBTS but it's quickly dashed as people start getting their money back.

A few hours later, this page goes up: http://kristalbrooks.tumblr.com/image/36360600858

Outrage erupts and the apologies get more dramatic. People start arguing over WHY the event was canceled, with all the immense thought put into insignificant details SPN fandom is famous for: http://mishaheartsandstars.tumblr.com/post/36359552185/i-would-like-to-say-this-very-loud-and-clear-if

Meanwhile, Bumble's twitter account is abandoned with a last, sad post: http://mishaheartsandstars.tumblr.com/post/36360956740/i-really-do-feel-this-is-an-immature-way-to-go#notes

A person with "insider connections" emerges: http://yesbecausereasons.tumblr.com/post/36376856652/thisisnotbruce-maniackles-another-message
and it's "confirmed" Misha bailed due to fan wank, not scheduling issues or lack of interest.

Tumblr flips out and now there are at least five major "Show Misha our Support!" style projects running, including http://minionsarethankfulformisha.tumblr.com/; https://www.facebook.com/events/447652881967477/; etc.
They also tried to get "We Appreciate Misha" to trend, but I don't think it did.

Anyway, overall arc: rabid excitement, wank, fear, apology, attacks on wankers, then rabid apology. Oh Misha Collins fandom.

Keep in mind that many of these people are the same ones that spend upward of a thousand dollars to go to a convention. Money is not the problem<.

Is it just me, or does a lot of the WE LOVE MISHA stuff come off as the fandom being terrified that if they're not nice enough, he won't want to play games with them anymore?

I mean, he seems like a nice guy, sure. But I can't quite get behind this HE IS THE GREATEST MAN WHO EVER EXISTED stuff.

Also: the guy just had a second kid. The whole event could be, "Hey, I need to make some side money," and I'd blame him not. Babies are expensive, bro.

DINGDINGDINGDINGDING

Considering how fandom loses its collective shit when a Famous Person (for a certain level of famous) decides they don't want to deal with a bunch of abusive loonbags anymore, yes.

Actually, people have been worried about Misha's state of mind since he gave this really awkward interview for a ... fancast? fanpod? I don't know what the term is?

Anyway, it sounds like it was recorded on a 45, but the relevant bit was when a call-in person asked how he felt about being a role-model for young people and he said, "I kind of feel unworthy of that, and feel like a deeply flawed person who is undeserving of much admiration from other people." Also he just sounded kind of down during the interview, though he did say he was fighting a cold. And the Misha fandom was like, "What's wrong, Misha? You sound down! Are you okay? Can I bring you some soup?"

I get the feeling that fandom (or at least that part of fandom) might be misreading him. It usually sounds like he's mostly in it for the lulz (though not in a mean-spirited way); if fandom went entirely sane and "nice," he might not be interested in the same way. (He'd probably just fall back into "actor who is genuinely nice to fans" territory.)

Two details are left out: it wasn't just a streaming of the film Stonehenge Apocalypse, but a MST3K-style commentary thing and another actor from Stonehenge was supposed to do it with him, but I'm blanking on the name. I think it was Torri Higginson?

And secondly, GISHWHES, the Scavenger hunt, also cost money. It cost $10 minimum to participate.

I heard vague rumblings about something being cancelled, but thought maybe it was a terrible sequel to the original terrible movie. Shows you how much I pay attention to Misha's antics most of the time. So tired of his inciting wank.
Now I'm off to work on my Sherlock theories.

Sorry, my brain saw 'Bumble', stopped, and demanded to know: does Misha bounce?

This is pertinent information and I demand my curiosity be satisfied.

(I saw a singing Bumble in the store the other day. I may or may not have squealed out loud.)

a) Once again, SPN fen are batshit.

b) If I pay $100, can I convince Misha to start using pronounceable acronyms for his event names? Or is the fact that they are unpronounceable yet another facet of his schemes?

c) SPN fen are batshit.

  • Misha Collins announces he's going to livestream a MST3K-style spork of the SYFY ORIGINAL MASTERPIECE "Stonehenge Apocalypse".

  • Fans bitch about it.

  • Event abruptly canceled without explanation.

  • Fans feel bad about hurting Misha's feelings and try to make him feel better by posting pictures of themselves wearing monkey hats and holding signs saying "We Appreciate Misha."

  • Misha maintains radio silence (but that's normal behavior for him so who knows what it means)

The key issue was money. The fans didn't understand why they had to pay $7.77 to watch a livestream of a movie they could pirate for free. (Yes, people said that.) When fen in the know pointed out that somebody had to pay for the rent of the studio they were using to record the commentary and the rights to the movie, the fans bitched that it couldn't possibly cost that much and that most of Misha's fans were young and poor students and they couldn't afford the tickets and Misha was probably just being greedy and pocketing the money and why wasn't it going to charity?

Also there's someone named Miss Jean Louise involved but it's never really been clear who she is - Misha's friend? relative? girlfriend? wife's girlfriend? Misha in a wig? imaginary friend?

If this had actually happened, I would've wanted Misha to play the drinking game along with the fandom (because that film was MADE for its drinking game).

But wow, what a rollercoaster ride of a wank.

Phooey, that sounds like it would have been fun. Too bad it was canceled.

But if there hadn't been wank I wouldn't have heard of it, so I guess I had no chance of seeing it either way!

I wish the fen luck with their rabid apologies. Maybe Misha will be sufficiently new-baby-in-the-house sleep deprived that he'll believe they're sincere.

What's sad is that I think it was -supposed- to be that way, ie if you follow/were involved in GISHWHES or pay attention to his corner of the fandom pretty closely then you're the target audience for this event because you're probably already a fan of Misha (enough to want to pay to listen to him spork a terrible movie that people seem to watch solely for his involvement) which makes all this backlash from the very people this was -for- kind of weird.
